With a ping, Shen Shuyun, lounging on the sofa with a face mask, raised an eyebrow and checked her phone. The first thing that caught her eye was Lu Liangting’s profile picture, accompanied by a message.
“If I d*e, tell Zhizi not to worry about me, and there’s no need for her to come looking for me. Just take care of herself and Rose. I left a bank card in my room with some money on it. Take it and go live a peaceful life, or start a small business.”
“Don’t come looking for me. It’s very, very dangerous here. I’m not joking; too many people have already died.”
In an instant, she sprang up from the sofa, ripping off the face mask. Shen Shuyun knitted her brows in concern, quickly tapping in her password to respond to Lu Liangting.
“You’ve lost it! Where are you? Stay somewhere safe and don’t go outside. I’m on my way to rescue you. You better not d*e on me!”
She was already nursing a headache. That guy, Lu Liangting, always managed to surprise her in the most ridiculous ways, constantly running towards danger when she herself wasn’t particularly skilled.
Sigh. What can you do? He is the protagonist, after all. If the protagonist just sat at home being cautious, would he even be a protagonist?
“No need. I’m safe enough for now. I can take care of myself.”

“Lu Liangting is telling the truth. Share this message far and wide. Gather as many people as you can in three days; the location is in Pinghai City. Once you all get here, you’ll know what’s really happening.”
“Got it.”
There was no doubt who was behind that message; Shen Shuyun knew Bai Yu had run into some tricky situation and was using Lu Liangting to rope them, the outsiders, into the mix.
But what can she do? It wasn’t like Lu Liangting was Bai Yu’s mission target; his potential demise wouldn’t affect her. It would ultimately be up to them to clean up after Lu Liangting.
“It’s so grim! This guy’s full of schemes as always.”
Last time Bai Yu played her cards like this was in Eternal Life Village. No need to mention how dangerous that was; it wasn’t until later they realized how horrific that place truly was. Thankfully, they visited the front village; if they’d gone to the back, they surely wouldn’t have made it back.
“I mean, come on, boss, you’re really just going to ignore it?” Shen Shuyun texted her, adding a crying emoji. “At least throw in some benefits; otherwise, I have nothing good to say!”

“Got it.” Shen Shuyun breathed a sigh of relief. Now that was something!
With a benefit in play, she could negotiate. Otherwise, her face wouldn’t be worth much. Just taking Lu Liangting’s word wasn’t that reassuring. Many were still sitting on the fence, some even giving up, thinking the task of seducing Lu Liangting was simply too daunting.
At a glance, getting a guy to fall for her didn’t seem that hard, especially for her now-beautiful self.
But actually doing it? That was an entirely different story.

“Bai Yu, who’re you texting?” Zhao Mingyue, in her comfy pajamas, came over with a warm cup of milk, gently placing it in front of Bai Yu.
With no missions today and no interest in going out, they decided to simply relax in their hotel.
With her tousled locks cascading down her shoulders, Zhao Mingyue sat beside Bai Yu, reaching back to tame her hair. “My hair has been growing so fast, Bai Yu! How about you style it and braid it for me?”
Bai Yu put down her phone and turned to the lazy Zhao Mingyue.
“I can’t.”
“Hey, you’re a girl! A female ghost still counts as a girl, right?” Zhao Mingyue turned her back to Bai Yu. “If you can’t tie your hair, I’ll handle it from now on. And your outfits, too. No refusal! It’d be a waste of such a pretty face if you didn’t.”
Hearing this, Bai Yu stood up as Zhao Mingyue removed two hair ties from her wrist and handed them over. “If you need anything, just grab it from the suitcase. I brought everything.”
“Okay.”
She positioned Zhao Mingyue in front of the big bay window. With the sunlight streaming in, Bai Yu delicately lifted Zhao Mingyue’s silky black hair, gliding the comb through as if it had its own motor.
The sun warmed them both, and the distant sea view could be seen through the window; it was all incredibly relaxing. Zhao Mingyue felt just from the scenery that this place must be extravagant, facing the ocean at such a height, with a clear view of everything.
But more comforting than the sun and the sea was having her beloved behind her, helping her do her hair.
“Bai Yu, don’t you think Teacher Chen and Qian Mu have a really close relationship?”
“Yeah, they seem pretty tight.”
“I think so too. Their banter is so entertaining! You can tell Teacher Chen has changed from how she used to be—she was a bit gloomy before, really suffocating. Now she’s brighter, like stepping out of the shadows into the light.”
Zhao Mingyue continued softly, “That’s the change Qian Mu has brought her. They both care for each other.”
“Mutual redemption; one walks from the shadows into light, while the other transforms from an evil god into a cute girl.”
“But still, I felt something was off with Qian Mu yesterday.”
“It was like she was preparing for her last rites. Didn’t you hear what she said before leaving? She praised Chen Yunshi while seemingly belittling her, but really it was a sign of how she’s changed. Not so bad, not so scheming. She even mentioned her opinions about you.”
“It’s almost as if she’s afraid that if something happens to her, no one will look after Teacher Chen, no one will be her rock.”
Bai Yu paused momentarily while Zhao Mingyue continued talking.

“Qian Mu is acting strangely.”
