Becoming a Fierce Ghost, I Turned into the Shadow Behind the Heroine – Chapter 258

Chapter 261: The Transformation of bl**d Threads

The four avatars of the Evil Spirit surrounded Bai Yu from all sides, each one shrouded in thick black mist that could almost compete with the surrounding Red Clothes. Meanwhile, the true body of the Evil Spirit mysteriously vanished into the black fog, its form flickering like a ghost at a bad nightclub.

With ghostly claws writhing from behind, gripping with the force of grudges, Bai Yu tilted her head ever so slightly, then kicked back another avatar that lunged at her, sending it flying. As she turned, she sliced through the ghostly claws aiming for her neck with a swift swipe. Her left hand summoned a bl**d thread which solidified into a short kn*fe, and with a quick twist, she stabbed it right into the heart of the avatar behind her.

Grabbing its shoulder, she pivoted and hurled the avatar away. Bai Yu raised her hand and crushed the short kn*fe made of bl**d thread, causing it to explode into a flurry of threads that coalesced into a sharp, spear-like projectile, aimed directly at the Evil Spirit’s main body that was attempting a sneak attack from above.

In an impressive display, the Evil Spirit split in two in mid-air, dodging the projectile effortlessly, then quickly merged back together, still looking like a bad horror movie gone wrong.

The swirling black mist lunged at Bai Yu’s face, but she stood still, unfazed.

The Evil Spirit’s eyes locked onto Bai Yu, watching her every move. When it noticed her lack of action, it decided to go all out, increasing both its strength and speed to astonishing levels.

Buzz!

Bai Yu lifted her hand, performing a simple motion, and it was as if the claws the Evil Spirit had unleashed banged themselves into her. With a firm grip, she caught its misty arm, causing part of the swirling black fog to dissipate in shock. The black mist began to corrode Bai Yu’s bl**d threads, but she didn’t care; the threads that were diminishing would quickly restore themselves, doing so at a rate much faster than they could dissolve.

The Evil Spirit was petrified. Looking down, it saw the cold mask hiding a pair of calm black eyes, as tranquil as a clear lake.

Trying to sever its own arm proved worthless. The reckless bl**d threads clung to its body, acting like a moth to a flame, and even as they clung, they would either catch fire or dissolve, but they persisted, replacing every bit consumed with even more.

“You’ve gone mad! Don’t you fear d*ath?” the Evil Spirit’s voice cracked in disbelief.

Each tiny strand of bl**d thread was the essence of a powerful ghost. To consume these threads was to consume its own life force. Calling this “life” for a ghost was a bit off, but you get the gist.

The problem was, while this creature was throwing away its life recklessly, it was dragging the Evil Spirit down with it.

It could try to drain those threads, but that wouldn’t come without a price.

At this rate, either it’d be consumed entirely, or Bai Yu would suffer the same fate.

Neither outcome was acceptable to it.

Even if it won, what would that accomplish? It would be left severely weakened, and how would it handle the Evil God behind the Ghost Gate in that state?

Silently, Bai Yu listened to the Evil Spirit’s incessant curses as she slashed through several Red Clothes trying to annoy her.

Seconds ticked by, and Bai Yu’s bl**d threads seemed never-ending. They wrapped around the Evil Spirit, cocooning it like a snug burrito, and combined with the lost threads, she was reeling in a much scarier power than what two Red Clothes could muster.

As the Evil Spirit struggled, its mindset began to shift.

Could it really keep consuming like this?

How many powerful ghosts had this annoying creature encountered?

Taking down two Red Clothes wasn’t terrifying. What was truly alarming was that even after defeating two Red Clothes, Bai Yu still showed no sign of weakness. This meant she considered those Red Clothes mere drizzle!

Meanwhile, the Evil Spirit, while still standing, was gradually starting to feel the strain, weakness creeping in. The longer this dragged on, the worse its situation became.

Its counterattack was faltering. With no pressure on Bai Yu, she would only press forward and continue her relentless assault.

The Evil Spirit found itself too exhausted to throw insults anymore as Bai Yu casually ignored it.

Suddenly, it regretted getting involved with such a lunatic.

But right now, its priority was simply getting free.

If this kept up, it’d be curtains for it.

“Aren’t you enemies with the people from the Ghost Domain? We can negotiate!” the Evil Spirit blurted out desperately.

“I know what the Ghost Domain wants, their intentions, and the location of the Ghost Flute!”

“Spider! Yes, I can let the Spider go! Just send me back, and we’ll go our separate ways!”

“You k*ll me, and you’ll have to bear a big price too!”

Bai Yu ignored the blabbering spirit, hoisting it high above and directing her attention toward the house containing the Ghost Gate.

At that moment, the power of the Ghost Gate erupted, and unlike before, this time it was infused with malevolent thoughts from numerous Evil Gods.

Just as she thought, the revival of the Evil God was moving ahead of schedule!

This fool was still unaware it had been sold out by the Ghost Domain. Its willingness to come here was all part of the Ghost Domain’s plan. They were 100% certain he’d meet his demise here.

Whether she killed it or allowed it to enter the Ghost Gate, the outcome was the same.

After its d*ath, its powers would surely be absorbed by the Evil God, which, having been brought back sooner than expected, could potentially snatch Little Moon’s body right away.

Even if Bai Yu managed to convince this Evil Spirit to back off, it wouldn’t matter much. It would merely be postponing the inevitable by a day. But upon returning, this Evil Spirit would surely face d*ath.

As for the chance of it fully allying with her? Almost zero.

Clearly, this Evil Spirit wasn’t smart enough to willingly choose that path.

So the best course of action was to absorb it directly.

But for some inexplicable reason, Bai Yu felt that might not be entirely effective—yet came up blank as to why.

As she and the Evil Spirit continued their draining duel, Bai Yu didn’t waver from her intention.

Sensing her resolve, the Evil Spirit ceased pleading and began to struggle and attack wildly, as if determined to make her pay for its demise.

Struggling for survival did yield results; at least Bai Yu was draining more of its energy. Sadly for it, the fiercer its struggle, the more bl**d threads Bai Yu released.

Bit by bit, the Evil Spirit’s struggles began to weaken. As its condition worsened, its survival instinct took over, drastically altering its attitude as it almost begged.

“P-Please, let me go! I’ll be your subordinate!”

Silently, Bai Yu responded not with words, but by switching the tide, moving from passive defense to actively absorbing the powers of the Evil Spirit. The threads encasing the Evil Spirit tightened like a snake, wrapping it tighter and tighter.

During this process, not a whisper of energy escaped from the Evil Spirit—definitely not something to be snagged by the Ghost Gate.

Zhao Mingyue, watching everything, was baffled.

“He’s not that strong, right? Bai Yu, you could take him out easily! Why go through this risky, self-sabotaging method?”

Taking down this Evil Spirit should have been a piece of cake, yet Bai Yu opted for the most costly approach.

“It’s crucial he doesn’t d*e here. If left unchecked, the Ghost Gate will absorb his power and pass it onto the Evil Gods inside, speeding up their revival,” Bai Yu explained succinctly.

“Oh, I see. But won’t absorbing an Evil Spirit cause you problems? Isn’t it said that absorbing these creatures brings all their garbage along too? With this big of an Evil Spirit, it’s bound to have all sorts of nasty stuff in it!”

“I’ll manage,” Bai Yu replied confidently.

Zhao Mingyue was speaking truthfully; the Evil Spirit was not like other specters. Especially this one, which had absorbed who-knows-what, its power was so jumbled that after she absorbed it, she might need a long time to clean out the residue.

“Ugh, I wonder how Lu Liangting and the others are doing. Only this Evil Spirit showed up, but where’s the Spider? They didn’t run into each other, did they? Can those two handle him?”

Zhao Mingyue felt a hint of dread. This wasn’t what she expected—an entire crew of terrifying Evil Spirits came through, yet somehow, they’d left the Spider behind. She hoped it was safe at their lair.

The Evil Spirit was truly something else; with so many terrifying spirits, couldn’t they have left a Red Clothes home? Why drag the Spider along, betting everything that it wouldn’t pretend to be controlled on purpose?

He must be so assured—risking returning home to find nothing left!

But also, it didn’t quite matter; this Evil Spirit was here for Little Moon. Even if everything vanished, his main goal remained unchanged. As long as he controlled her, there was still the Ghost Gate; he could continue his transformation.

Time drifted without notice. In the final moments, filled with extreme reluctance, the Evil Spirit’s last remnants of consciousness were snatched away by Bai Yu, leaving only the residual power thrashing around under her dominion, only to be fully absorbed.

As the bl**d threads dispersed, the look in Bai Yu’s eyes shifted beneath her mask.

She raised her hand, and a new thread of bl**d emerged from her palm, its hue darkening with clarity, nearly devoid of red, now emanating a faint black aura. It didn’t seem like mere resentment; it was something far more complex.

What kind of changes this would lead to, she couldn’t be sure.
