Chapter 265: Entering the Ghost Gate
The atmosphere was so oppressive, all thanks to Li Tianan’s brief statement.
Lu Liangting froze, not feeling a chill of terror creeping up his spine, but rather a sense of sheer horror. Just a spider was enough to back him and Li Tianan into a corner. What would happen if Bai Yu—the one who could easily dangle spiders like piñatas—lost control? One could only imagine.
It would be nothing short of a disaster.
The Evil God’s curse was formidable, but at least there was a way to deal with it. If the curse couldn’t be resolved, you could always tackle the Evil God directly.
But what about Bai Yu?
Who was going to handle her?
They could still use words to awaken her from the spider’s grip, thanks to Bai Yu’s cooperation.

Should Zhao Mingyue just waltz over herself?
If anything went wrong with Mingyue, the situation would be even worse.
Just as Li Tianan said, the residents of the Ghost Domain thrived on chaos. They were practically throwing confetti at the prospect of such a happening.
“I’m just guessing here, can’t say for sure. Just be careful; that’s a given,” the Spider continued, “This particular Evil God is different. If you absorb her, it might connect you directly with the Ghost Gate. It won’t just be about absorbing the Evil God’s power; you’ll end up with the Ghost Gate’s power as well.”
“Once you open that can of worms, things will get messy. You understand the Ghost Gate’s power better than I do—it’s fierce, and completely different from an Evil Ghost’s rage.”
“Handle it as you see fit.”
“I’m thinking this could have its perks. If the Ghost Domain wants to use this Evil God to stir up trouble for you, why not turn the tables? Absorb the Evil God, lay low for a while. After all, you already have a connection to the Ghost Gate.”
“By absorbing this Evil God, your body will level up significantly. You can gradually diminish her influence over you, and once you’re powered up, you might even find clues about the Ghost Gate.”
“That’s about it. I need to head back for now. In a bit, I’ll bring Little Moon to help you wake these villagers. Maybe we can even prevent the Evil God’s arrival! But let’s be real, we can only delay it by a day or two at most.”
With that, the Spider saw Bai Yu nodding and turned to leave.
Bai Yu didn’t need any instruction; she was just there to voice her thoughts. How she chose to act was entirely up to her, and even if she decided to stroll off right now, the Spider couldn’t say much.
Getting herself out of control would be a major favor, so Bai Yu could be considered to owe her a life.
“You two, go help her. I’ll handle the Ghost Gate.”
Bai Yu stepped toward the Ghost Gate with purpose, her mind already made up.
Once out of the plaza’s range, Zhao Mingyue’s voice echoed in Bai Yu’s mind.
“Are we really going in? Isn’t that a trap set by the Ghost Domain?”
“Let’s go check it out,” Bai Yu replied.
“But didn’t you say that absorbing this Evil God’s power would make you lose control?” Zhao Mingyue sounded frantic—her concern was palpable. She had just witnessed what happened to the Spider when it was controlled, and she certainly didn’t want to watch Bai Yu turn into that.
“I have a plan.”
On the way, Bai Yu pulled out Zhao Mingyue’s phone and called Chen Yunshi.
The call connected quickly, and Thousand Eyes Godmother’s voice came through.
“Hello, Mingyue, what’s up?”
“It’s Bai Yu. Do you want this Evil God’s power? Let’s split it 50/50.”
Silence filled the line for a moment before Chen Yunshi replied, “What’s the catch?”
“The Ghost Domain set a trap for me. There’s an Evil God in this Ghost Gate they want me to absorb. Once I do, I’ll be influenced by the Ghost Gate and lose control.”
“I’ve already cleared the obstacles here. You come, I’ll take out the Evil God, we’ll split the power, and you can go back.”
After another brief pause, Chen Yunshi added, “Location?”
“Next to Qiugang Village, in Feng Village.”
“Fifteen minutes.”
“Sounds good.”
After hanging up, Bai Yu turned to Zhao Mingyue and explained, “The Spider has a point. This is both danger and opportunity. I know what I’m doing with the Ghost Gate, so don’t worry.”
The MO of whoever was behind this seemed all too familiar; factoring in the intel she got and the odd behavior of the villagers, the answer was becoming clear—with no one else in mind except that Nightmare guy.
If it wasn’t for the Spider’s earlier heads-up, she wouldn’t have figured that out—not at least in the short term. By the time she did, it might have been too late.
That’s just the usual situation; she wasn’t a god, incapable of omniscience. There would always be some oversights and miscalculations on her end. Besides, when it came to sneaky tactics, she wasn’t as crafty as Nightmare.
Now the options were crystal clear: either she recognized the issue and withdrew, putting Little Moon at risk of being possessed by the Evil God, essentially handing the Ghost Domain a top-tier Evil God, or she plunged ahead, potentially becoming affected by the Evil God’s power. Even if she didn’t lose control immediately, she’d be walking a tightrope of danger for a good while, especially since Nightmare would likely do everything to give her another Evil God.
Either way, the Ghost Domain stood to benefit.
To put it bluntly, those two choices became a matter of the Evil God’s life or d*ath.
The rise of the Evil God was inevitable. Once born, she’d only have two outcomes: life or d*ath.
At this point, even if the Spider took Little Moon and left, it wouldn’t matter. Bai Yu doubted the Ghost Domain wasn’t prepping a second vessel for the Evil God; they’d merely weaken the first.
So she might as well play along—a perfect chance to fulfill her redemption task.
She had confirmed along the way that she indeed had a redemption mission tonight, with a simple goal: ensure that both the Spider and Little Moon survived this crisis. Not a single one could d*e. The reward was something called ‘Twisted Tentacle,’ with its purpose still unclear.
“Is there really no issue here?”
“Nope, I can definitely take out the Evil God. How much I absorb is totally up to me. If I can control it, I’ll absorb more; if not, I’ll let Thousand Eyes take in some—she’s an Evil God herself, and absorbing that power will only be beneficial.”
“Just be careful!”
“Mm.”
They quickly arrived at the yard where the Ghost Gate was located. Bai Yu hopped over the courtyard wall, standing on the roof and surveying the Ghost Gate—a writhing source of Evil God energy that had gone completely out of control.
This Ghost Gate looked almost identical to the one by the Spider; they were definitely connected.
Like a chasm into darkness, tendrils spread out, clinging to the surrounding walls. Bai Yu could vaguely hear the Evil God’s voice already. Now all that was left was to either wait or enter the Ghost Gate and pull this Evil God out.
At this stage, the Evil God was quite weak, especially when dragged into the real world without having undergone embryonic metamorphosis.
The reason Evil Gods underwent such a transformation had to do with this very fact.
Evil Gods were born within Ghost Gates, and if they recklessly entered this world, they wouldn’t adapt and might even be rejected by it. By using an embryo to grow and transform, they not only acquired a new identity but also became stronger. That way, they could maintain a connection with the Ghost Gate and absorb its power.
In a non-mutated state, the Evil God’s strength likely didn’t even surpass that of an ordinary Evil Spirit.
You could feel it just from the aura.
Sitting cross-legged on the roof, she meditated to cleanse the remnants of the Evil Spirits.
Meditation was the best way to clear out that mental junk.
Ten minutes passed before Bai Yu opened her eyes. Behind her, Thousand Eyes Godmother’s consciousness swooped in, wrapping around her as they both gazed at the Ghost Gate below.
“Whoa, this one’s pretty impressive. Probably on par with my two sisters,” Thousand Eyes Godmother mused, stroking her chin.
“At least she’s way stronger than that Desire Godmother who’s stuck with An Que. If she’s let out, we’d be in for another catastrophe.”
“How did you find her? Aren’t you and Mingyue supposed to be on vacation? Coming back from Pinghai City just to jump into a mission? I’m telling you, Bai Yu, whether human or ghost, you’ve got to learn to enjoy life. Don’t push yourself so hard. When you get the chance, take Mingyue out for a little trip—let loose and unwind!”
“That’s a form of growth too; if you’re always tense, you might just snap.”
“Things are great with my Yunshi. We’ve been having a blast these past couple of days, even if that one has the same old stubborn streak.”
“Oh, by the way, An Que is still stuck with Yunshi; poor thing, really. Tsk tsk tsk.”
Thousand Eyes Godmother prattled on endlessly, while on the other side, Chen Yunshi hopped over, arms crossed, standing next to Bai Yu.
“When do we strike?” Chen Yunshi ignored Thousand Eyes and asked directly.
“Hang on a moment.”
“Okay.”
“I mean,” Thousand Eyes intertwined herself with Chen Yunshi, “who’s so bold as to scheme against you?”
“Just tone it down a bit,” Chen Yunshi shot a glance at Thousand Eyes Godmother.
She hadn’t grasped the full situation yet, but it was clear Bai Yu wanted to seize the initiative. Thousand Eyes was her ace in the hole.
Ten more minutes passed before Bai Yu stood up, stepping out of Zhao Mingyue’s body.
“I’m going in now—to drag that Evil God out, then we absorb it directly.”
“I get it; an unembryonated Evil God is like a buffet,” Thousand Eyes flitted back to Bai Yu. “Do you not want me to go in?”
“No need.”
“Alright, just be careful.”
Bai Yu leapt forward, arriving at the Ghost Gate, casually slicing through the extending bl**d Threads without a second thought, stepping inside without hesitation.
On the rooftop, Zhao Mingyue nervously clutched her clothes, filled with nothing but worry and helplessness.
Bai Yu’s personality was really hard to deal with—no euphemisms, she was as headstrong as they come, and it made her anxious.
“Ah, don’t fret; she’ll definitely come out!” Thousand Eyes patted Zhao Mingyue on the shoulder.
