Chapter 266: The Anomaly of Black Sun Godmother
Behind the Ghost Gate, the Evil God was known as Black Sun Godmother among the folks in the Ghost Domain. Clearly, they had been keeping tabs on this evil entity for quite some time.
But once she stepped through the Ghost Gate, she’d find out exactly what was wrong with this evil god.
Standing before the Ghost Gate, Bai Yu didn’t hesitate; she just stepped inside, feeling her body enveloped by the power emanating from within. A very special sensation washed over her, one that was even different from what she had imagined. Once inside, she felt an unprecedented lightness fill her body.
The power within the Ghost Gate was helping her expel impurities from her system, restoring her fatigued body, clearing away all her hidden ailments. The chilling aura that haunted her outside vanished without a trace.
Bai Yu didn’t take the time to contemplate this. The power of the Ghost Gate wasn’t just something you absorbed freely; while she felt an elusive sensation of “being home,” the Ghost Gate was slowly corroding her body. All those delightful feelings were just an illusion conjured by the gate; tearing off that facade revealed a bl**d-soaked reality underneath.
Looking up, the entire world inside the Ghost Gate was shrouded in a misty haze.
It felt like she had stepped into a mini-world that existed apart from everything else, surrounded by an old village. The architectural style was ancient, each house showing signs of significant weathering.
The whole place was cloaked in this mist, with a bunch of gray, fluffy particles floating around. The overall color palette was a dreary black and gray, giving Bai Yu the impression that something had sucked the life out of this world, leaving nothing but dead silence behind.
Bai Yu turned left and right; she found herself in front of a dome-shaped house, with the entrance of the Ghost Gate right behind her.
She picked up a stone from the ground, only for it to crumble and disintegrate in her palm, turning into fine gray sand, which then slipped through her fingers. A gentle breeze picked it up and whisked it away, disappearing from her view.
Thanks to the eerie gray fog, her visibility was no more than twenty meters. Beyond that, even her perception was blocked. She could vaguely sense something moving in the village, rustling sounds echoing, almost like whispers brushing against her ears.
The whispers grew stronger as time passed since she entered.
In this ancient village, within a gray-black world devoid of sunlight, surrounded by mist and a earth drained of life, even the whispers felt oddly familiar.
Bai Yu lowered her gaze. If her memory served her right, the world engulfed by the Dark Moon God back then was similar to this, wasn’t it?
Every detail was identical! If it weren’t for the differing architectural style, she might think she had returned to her original world.
She couldn’t decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
The difference in worlds suggested that the one who transformed this place might not be the Dark Moon God.
She wanted revenge on the Dark Moon God for what happened to her and her sister, Bai Sisi.
But with her current strength, facing the Dark Moon God would leave her dead before she even knew what hit her.
Bai Yu’s thoughts were in disarray.
If this place wasn’t the Dark Moon God’s doing, then why did she find the power here so familiar, even… endearing?
Yes, endearing! Bai Yu could hardly believe her own senses.
She suddenly wondered if those pleasant changes she felt upon entering the Ghost Gate were merely illusions.
Were these changes unique to her, or did all ghosts feel this way?
The problem was, the same powers didn’t faze her when she was outside the Ghost Gate. Why did these identical powers evoke such familiarity and warmth now?
These energies didn’t even actively reject her; they approached her cautiously, eager to please, ultimately merging into her body.
Could this be part of Nightmare’s plan?
She had never mentioned her original world or anything about the Dark Moon God or her sister to anyone. Not even an inquisitive Zhao Mingyue had much of a clue!
Nightmare couldn’t possibly know she had ties to this world, so how could they manipulate her regarding this?
Or perhaps Nightmare simply hadn’t foreseen this development?
But that didn’t add up; this world just resembled her former one, it wasn’t the same place.
Everywhere was contradictory — a maddeningly familiar yet strange world, filled with a dangerous aura that somehow felt comforting.
It was called the Ghost Gate, yet the sky wasn’t black; there was neither sun nor moon, and there were no ghosts in sight.
Outside, she could distinctly sense the Evil God’s presence, but inside, it felt like that presence vanished into thin air.
She could finally make sense of that; if this world was somehow connected to the Dark Moon God or their sisters, then the Evil God would be nothing more than a toy before them. A little Evil God wouldn’t dare run rampant here — there was always a risk of being squashed outright.
She had no idea how large this world was, but it was definitely bigger than just a single village.
As Bai Yu pondered how to confront the Evil God, a strong wind suddenly blew, scattering the mist around her. A black shadow descended from the sky, slowly materializing in the air. Her entire form was composed of black mist.
A female figure, towering over three meters tall, without discernible facial features, her back flaunting eight arms striking various poses.
Her body was shrouded in painful threads, these thin, elongated strands frantically weaving behind her like a spider’s web, resembling a black sun woven from chaos.
The combination of her form and the eight arms gave off an air reminiscent of sacred deities found in religious frescoes, exuding an indescribable sanctity, especially with the black sun on her back, which began emitting a blindingly dark light.
While sunlight is typically associated with the divine, this black sun spread its light with chilling gloom, unable to dispel evil, instead bringing endless suffering — a divinity shrouded in malevolence, much like a fallen deity.
It was no mystery why this entity was called the Black Sun Godmother; compared to that chatterbox of an Evil God outside, this one certainly had an aura of sophistication.
The Black Sun Godmother didn’t utter a word; her gaze was fixed on Bai Yu, her myriad of black tendrils closing in, ruthlessly aiming to devour her strength and then burst forth from the Ghost Gate using Bai Yu’s own body.
Bai Yu clenched her fists, prepared to retaliate, planning to drag the Black Sun Godmother out of there, then, in her weakened state, join forces with Qian Mu to consume her entirely.
Inside the Ghost Gate, the Black Sun Godmother’s power was still formidable, appearing before Bai Yu in the blink of an eye, reaching out her hand. In that fleeting moment, the vague features shaped by the black mist on her face formed a smile, as if she had found something effortlessly after an arduous search.
She could no longer bear this world; by comparison, the outside world seemed like paradise.
And now, the opportunity had finally arrived.
The embryo she needed was just outside! If she could get out of here, she could have everything!
However, the next moment, as her hand brushed against Bai Yu’s, something terrifying seemed to dawn upon her; even with her yearning for freedom, she instinctively pulled her hand back. She attempted to quickly create distance between them and escape.
Bai Yu found this reaction puzzling.
This creature was practically screaming her desperation for freedom. What terrifying sight had she seen to evoke such fear?
But it didn’t matter much at this point.
Bai Yu quickly grabbed the Evil God’s wrist to prevent her escape, binding her with bl**d threads. Then, she pulled half of the Evil God into her own body, racing out of the Ghost Gate.
Dragging her out directly would have been impossible; if it were that simple, the Evil God would have escaped long ago. There had to be some power restrictions at play.
Yet, after integrating even that small fraction of her being, Bai Yu could be considered a whole entity and thus was able to slip through the Ghost Gate.
Outside the Ghost Gate, Zhao Mingyue was on edge, her gaze fixed anxiously as the Ghost Gate flickered, and two figures burst out.
“Bai Yu!” Zhao Mingyue leapt off the courtyard wall. Right behind her, Qian Mu moved quicker, ensnaring the Black Sun Godmother’s body in record time, not hesitating even for a moment to take a bite.
In her words, the Evil Gods that emerged from the Ghost Gate were just a buffet — just dive in and eat, no matter how they struggle.
And indeed, once the Black Sun Godmother emerged, her power visibly diminished.
The worlds inside and outside the gate were vastly different; she couldn’t adapt to this new world and that’s how this happened.
Bai Yu too was in full swing, voraciously consuming the Black Sun Godmother’s power.
With Qian Mu’s help, swallowing half an Evil God was a deal she could fully accept.
The Black Sun Godmother appeared to be in disbelief, futilely struggling, helplessly watching as her body was devoured bit by bit.
The process didn’t take long; half of the Black Sun Godmother was consumed by Bai Yu, while the other half was neatly tucked away in Qian Mu’s belly.
Yet it was her last words before her demise that left Bai Yu deep in thought.
“You… you shouldn’t be out here! How did you escape?”
“I’m working for you, why do you want to k*ll me?”
Had the Black Sun Godmother mistaken her for someone else? Bai Yu didn’t think so; this creature must have sensed her aura within the Ghost Gate.
