Chapter 268: The Bride Is Missing, So I Became the Bride
Li Tianan had a point. His reminder was spot on. If she kept consuming this stuff, the impurities accumulating in her body would eventually become a huge hazard—after all, it was related to the Ghost Gate, and her knowledge about it was practically nonexistent.
If these impurities could be detonated, she would really be in trouble.
This wasn’t just unnecessary worry; it was entirely possible. She could think of several ways to set it off.
The group fell silent, continuing their search for the remaining red-clothed entities.
The village didn’t seem big, yet searching was still a hassle. By the time dawn broke, all the evil ghosts had been cleared away.
Bai Yu had devoured two of the four red-clothed entities; the other two were dispatched with tentacles, letting their vengeful spirits drift away into the sky.
Around the same time, Spider and Little Moon returned successfully.
Little Moon’s bl**d could dispel negative influences within a certain range, including the villagers trapped in nightmares.
Spider didn’t want Little Moon to bleed out too much, so they wasted a little time using a few drops of her bl**d to “precisely strike” without wasting a single drop. In the end, ten drops of bl**d pulled hundreds of villagers back from their dreams.
After the Black Sun Godmother was defeated, the dream itself was significantly weakened, so the process wasn’t difficult. The main challenge was finding these people.
“I’ve searched the village thoroughly; I didn’t find any of the Ghost Domain’s people. Why the villagers were controlled without anyone noticing is a mystery. They must have retreated before you arrived,” Spider said.
Upon hearing this, Li Tianan frowned. “That doesn’t sound like their usual style.”
To retreat so easily without leaving any trouble behind or even wanting to take a peek at the results, and cleaning up all traces as if to confuse others—it was suspicious.
“Anyway, it doesn’t matter if they retreated. The situation here is coming to a close,” Li Tianan said, adjusting his collar, determined to maintain his image even in such a messed-up state.
“Wait a minute.” Spider, clutching the sleeping Little Moon in one arm, pointed in a direction with the other. “The Ghost Domain’s people might have left, but that evil spirit left something for us.”
“It’s an unused Evil God embryo,” Spider announced, catching Bai Yu’s attention.
“This embryo hasn’t been nurtured by Evil God power; its quality is poor and lacks significant function. The main difference from a regular person is that its soul has dissipated while the body remains alive.”
To be chosen as an Evil God embryo, a person’s soul must vanish, but their physical body needs to remain alive and healthy.
This embryo Spider found simply met that basic requirement of having a dissipated soul and a living body.
After seeing this embryo, Spider realized why that darn evil spirit was fixated on Little Moon; even if it meant teaming up with the Ghost Domain and taking a gamble, it still wanted to try.
It was simply because its backup embryo was far too weak.
It was in the upper echelons of evil spirits; if it transformed using this body, it wouldn’t gain much improvement and would end up being the bottom of the Evil Gods. What a lonely transformation that would be!
If it were just that, it wouldn’t be a problem, but once it did so, it would effectively seal its future growth, making it incredibly difficult to improve further.
Spider’s gaze fell on Lu Liangting. “Bai Yu won’t use it; if it’s okay, you take it. Your ghost got heavily injured by me, so think of this embryo body as my compensation to you.”
“It’s nothing valuable I possess. Just a small gesture,” Spider added.
“Your ghost will recover faster after entering this body, the influence of being an evil ghost will be significantly reduced,” Spider explained.
Bai Yu didn’t voice any objections, and Zhao Mingyue and Li Tianan nodded in agreement.
Having one more embryo body, if nurtured well, equated to a rebirth.
Seeing the agreement, Spider wasted no time, and after receiving confirmation from Old Yang and Lu Liangting, led everyone toward the house where the embryo body was located.
Spider overlooked one issue: Old Yang was male, while the body prepared by the evil spirit was that of a girl—one who was only around seventeen or eighteen years old, cute enough, though definitely not as stunning as Zhao Mingyue or Bai Yu.
In the room, everyone gathered around the bed where the sleeping girl lay, examining her silently and nodding in approval.
Only Old Yang stood at the head of the bed, frowning, looking as if he swallowed a green-headed fly.
He had to admit, the girl was quite adorable.
If possible, he wouldn’t mind a ghost marriage once she passed away; her face was quite to his taste.
Leaving that aside, this body as an embryo was quite good. In reality, options were limited. Bai Yu’s embryo body and Little Moon were the kind of rare finds that, if sought after, would get you killed.
But!
The girl was cute, but he could NOT accept that he had become this girl!
What the heck?! This was way too different from what he imagined!
Lu Liangting had promised him that they would definitely find a bride during this trip.
Now, not only did he fail to find a bride, but he ended up turning into a girl himself!
Anyone would struggle to accept that.
Old Yang cursed that evil spirit to high heaven in his mind.
What was wrong with that guy? Wasn’t it a male evil spirit? Why the heck prepare a female embryo?
Everyone was waiting for Old Yang to integrate, and Lu Liangting was the first to speak up. “Old Yang, let’s not be picky about this. It’s a rare opportunity; you should realize that those evil god embryos out there require taking down an evil god first.”
Lu Liangting’s words flipped a switch, and Old Yang exploded.
“Shut the hell up! Are you trying to make me look bad? You want me to possess this body and then go home to serve you every day? Your calculations are brilliant, but it’s NOT happening! Dream on! I’m gonna stick to you like glue!”
“Come on, you need to recover from your injuries, right? Isn’t having this body good? Plus, what you’re saying doesn’t make sense. I won’t make you do anything. If it’s chores, we have Zhizi and Rose here, you won’t be needed.” Lu Liangting explained.
“Do you even believe what you’re saying?” Old Yang felt like punching Lu Liangting.
That guy had to know all along and just didn’t tell him on purpose.
“Fine, think what you want. I just wanted to say this is indeed an opportunity that’s perfect for you; the rest of us doesn’t need it,” Lu Liangting said helplessly. If they were at home, he could argue more with Old Yang, but here he had to let it go with everyone watching.
Their conversation between a human and a ghost went unnoticed by everyone.
It was logical to allow a male red-clothed evil ghost to enter a girl’s body; it was normal for someone to have objections.
“Who says no one needs it? Spider, I don’t want this body anymore; you can possess it and use it to take care of Little Moon instead,” Old Yang said, looking back at Spider.
Spider shook her head. “I don’t need it; my current body is more than enough for taking care of Little Moon. This body would actually hinder me.”
This response surprised everyone. Spider genuinely cared for Little Moon’s feelings, willing to give up even the Evil God embryo presented to her.
In other words, she was sacrificing a chance at rebirth.
“Then,” Old Yang glanced around; the only ghost present was Bai Yu, who stood outside watching Little Moon.
“Lu Liangting, how about your Aunt Su?”
“No go. Aunt Su isn’t fully conscious. Using this body might cause issues and it’s inconvenient to take her back home,” Lu Liangting shrugged.
“Little Lu has a point. Just go in; it won’t hurt you; you’ll get used to it,” Li Tianan chimed in.
Even Zhao Mingyue nodded, “That’s right. Bai Yu adapted quickly, and she said having her body felt nice, like being reborn; even sleep was more comfortable.”
Under everyone’s persuasion, Old Yang reluctantly decided to possess the body.
The process went smoothly; within a minute, the girl on the bed opened her eyes, braced herself up, and tried to clench her fist.
Honestly, this embryo body was indeed different from an average person’s.
Without a soul, it was essentially unclaimed; upon possession, he could easily take full control of the body and integrate deeply with it.
With this body, the pain inflicted by being an evil ghost faded significantly—he no longer felt that cold.
“How does it feel?” Lu Liangting coughed.
“Not bad.”
Leaping off the bed, Old Yang found himself standing in a somewhat awkward posture.
He was clad in a white dress, and strictly speaking, this was the first time he wore a skirt in this lifetime. He felt exposed below and didn’t feel safe at all, instinctively wanting to lock his legs together. If it weren’t for his decent control, he would’ve embarrassed himself in front of everyone.
It was all Lu Liangting’s fault!
If it weren’t for saving him, would he have gotten flung out by Spider?
If he hadn’t been injured, he’d never accept this body.
Looking at Lu Liangting’s face, an evil revenge plan began to take shape in Old Yang’s mind.
“Lu Liangting, I remember your stepmother; her hometown is in this village, right?”
