### Chapter 291: The Relationship Between Dark Moon and Bright Moon
Everything around was drenched in a bloody hue, and the dull, powerful thumping of a heartbeat echoed in her ears, making Bai Yu feel as if her entire body had been swallowed by some colossal beast. This sensation reminded her of when she first transformed and Zhao Mingyue called out to her.
Back then, she navigated through a bl**d-red world, following Zhao Mingyue’s voice until she found her. She thought the world of ghosts was like that, but maybe she had been mistaken. Her original body was likely supposed to be inside the Ghost Gate, but somehow, she swapped bodies and ended up being summoned to the real world by the sc*m Game and Zhao Mingyue.
No wonder she didn’t feel out of place during her last trip to the ghostly realm; it turned out she belonged there all along!
Her vision gradually cleared, and Bai Yu stepped forward.
Looking around, the Ghost Gate world was clearly different from the last time she visited, especially the sky. The last time, there was no sun, and the world was stuck in a perpetual day with hardly any ghosts around.
Now, however, the entire world was shrouded in night, covered by a grayish-black mist, with three bl**d-red moons hanging in the misty sky. Thanks to these bl**d moons, visibility wasn’t too bad.
Even the fluffy cotton-like substances and ash lingering in the air had thinned out, revealing what seemed to be the true appearance of the Ghost Gate world.
Frowning, Bai Yu noticed swaths of monsters aimlessly wandering in the ancient village, which was different from her previous visit. Back then, the place had felt deserted, except for the Black Sun Godmother, who seemed desperate to escape.
Outside, it was 8 AM, but here it was night—completely reversed! That had its perks. If both worlds were identical, those wandering monsters would spill into the real world, causing ghost populations to multiply exponentially!
The monsters around here looked quite different from the Evil Ghosts of the real world; they resembled certain Evil Ghosts from the Ghost Realm. Their bodies were tall and lanky, seemingly distorted and elongated, with limbs that were nothing like the proportions of normal humans. They looked like beings from a different dimension, their skin blackened and dried out like old twigs.
Clad in tattered black garments, the wear of time had eroded these clothes, leaving them in a sad state resembling traditional ethnic attire. It wasn’t hard to deduce these monsters were once villagers who had died for various reasons and transformed into their current forms.
As for their strength, who knew? They certainly didn’t seem weak.
Bai Yu pulled up the hood of her outfit, her skin shifting from a pale hue more akin to regular humans to a grayish-white, with black patterns sprawling across her body.
This was her original look—aside from her face, which wasn’t as horrendous as typical Evil Ghosts, she looked pretty standard among them. After spending so much time with Zhao Mingyue, she had somewhat forgotten her original appearance.
She proceeded toward the source of the strongest aura; that was the quickest way to find the Dark Moon God.
That heart-pounding power originated from the Dark Moon God, so naturally, the most concentrated aura would be where the Dark Moon God resided.
Bai Yu had no inkling of how large this world was. If it mirrored the outside world, even five hours might not suffice to locate the Dark Moon God.
As she ventured into the village, the surrounding monsters didn’t swarm her; it was as if they couldn’t see her, continuing their aimless wandering within the village limits.
Only after exiting the village did Bai Yu realize there were not just monsters from the village but also Evil Ghosts from the outside world, as evident from their attire. The Evil Ghosts were seemingly preyed upon by the local monsters.
The ghosts lurking on the village’s outskirts would be quickly devoured once noticed by the village monsters. Sometimes, the village monsters would even chase those ghosts out of the village, feast on them, then meander back in.
The ghosts in this world mostly lacked strength, being far from even Evil Ghosts—simply the most mundane specters, acting solely on instinct without clear consciousness. Most of them were elderly, still dressed in burial garments, appearing as if they had died of natural causes.
After d*ath, there’s no reincarnation or anything like that, nor hell or cycles of rebirth.
So-called ghosts were just the spiritual remnants of the dead.
These mindless ghosts probably existed here because the Ghost Gate absorbed them.
In other words, these ghosts were likely individuals who passed away near the Ghost Gate, much like the Gatekeeper’s domain, which absorbs the spirits of deceased individuals within a certain range.
Now it made sense why the numbers of ghosts from the outside world had surged in recent years.
Generally, the spiritual energy of a deceased person dissipates immediately after d*ath, unless they harbor immense grudges, but only if those grudges are potent enough.
Those grudge energies maintain the spiritual energy that should have fused with the world intact. Because of other factors, that energy can then surge, resulting in the creation of a Red-clothed Evil Ghost.
Thus, Red-clothed Evil Ghosts are so uncontrollable—after all, it’s their grudges controlling them.
Right now, various sizes of Evil Ghosts appeared in the world, likely due to the interference of the Ghost Gate preventing spiritual energy from dissipating. The Dark Moon God’s presence keeps these energies from being completely absorbed by the Ghost Gate, naturally leaving them in the outside world.
Bai Yu pondered upon how the world behind the Ghost Gate was formed.
All signs pointed to the fact that this world once had indigenous inhabitants, who were wiped out before the arrival of the Dark Moon God. The arrival of the Dark Moon God only made things worse, not the root cause of it all.
While she was lost in thought, a pair of eyes suddenly opened up in a dark corner behind her, locking onto her.
This creature was incredibly fast, its small body rushing toward Bai Yu with a whoosh, dry hands reaching for her neck.
Poof!
A black tentacle suddenly burst forth, piercing through the small monster’s chest. Bai Yu glanced back and saw it was some faceless abomination, resembling the form of a young child turned into a grotesque being.
Letting out a horrifying wail from its pierced chest, the little monster’s cry served as a signal, and soon a rustling noise echoed around them.
Bai Yu halted her steps. Centering herself, numerous small monsters rushed out from the dark corners, surrounding her completely. There were at least twenty of them at a glance.
Several black tentacles tore the monster behind her to shreds. Bai Yu looked around, the tentacles and bl**d threads emanating a faint black-red glow. Upon sensing this glow, the surrounding little monsters scattered as quickly as they came.
To them, the Black Sun Godmother was an upper-tier entity, one not to be provoked.
“The Black Sun Godmother holds a significant position in this world,” Bai Yu murmured to herself, realizing this realm held nothing overly dangerous apart from the Dark Moon God. This made sense, as the upper limit of this world was set; the strongest being was the Evil God, and anything above that wasn’t much stronger.
The little monsters didn’t intimidate her. Rather, it was the essence of this world that gave her an uncomfortable feeling.
Standing on the muddy path, Bai Yu gazed into the dark distance.
That was where she needed to go. Unfortunately, it was shrouded in deep darkness, and the airborne materials impeded her perception and vision.
She suddenly thought—was this world merely a reflection of the real world?
If the village behind her was the one where Bright Moon and the Dragon Lady resided, then where was the Dark Moon God?
From her current direction, it seemed like it was in the urban district of Tianchang City.
Bai Yu quickened her pace; if her assumption was correct, she would waste quite a bit of time on her way.
Along the path, Bai Yu carefully observed her surroundings, and it really did seem that the world behind the Ghost Gate was a projection of the real world. While it might not be identical, it was definitely similar.
Upon reflection, the village she had arrived at might not be a civilization in itself but a distortion of a projection.
Along the way, there were numerous monsters, most of which also wandered aimlessly like the ones in that village.
There also existed incidents of mutual consumption, mostly involving Red-clothed Evil Ghosts.
As for the Dark Moon God’s location, she had initially guessed it was in Eternal Life Village, since that was where she first discovered the clue about the Dark Moon. It was a fitting location.
But as she drew closer to “Tianchang City,” her vision began to discern the outlines of a distorted city, and the pressure belonging to the Dark Moon God was noticeably intensifying.
It was now certain that the Dark Moon God resided somewhere within the city.
Bai Yu was puzzled as to why the Dark Moon God remained here; perhaps it was because there were so many people in the city, and consequently, many more who had died.
Within half an hour, Bai Yu reached the outskirts of the city.
As expected, everything here was in a twisted state; at first glance, it resembled an entirely different civilization. Yet upon closer scrutiny, the issues became apparent.
Now the question arose:
Did such a situation still have the so-called indigenous people?
Bai Yu set that question aside for now, slowing her pace and suppressing her aura.
The Black Sun Godmother’s power worked smoothly here, but having crossed such a vast distance into the most populated city—was it possible there were other Evil Gods? It was uncertain; if she carelessly released her aura, there was a chance she’d attract the wrong attention, making other Evil Gods perceive her as an intruder trying to seize territory.
Right now, the priority was still to find the Dark Moon God.
Officially stepping into the city, she encountered many slender, proportionally skewed monsters.
Now, the Dark Moon God’s aura was incredibly strong.
Bai Yu raised her head, looking in one direction.
The purest source of that aura was not in the city center but on the eastern edge of the city.
That location was eerily familiar.
Because it was precisely where Zhao Mingyue lived in reality.
