Chapter 293: Stay Forever! Sister!
In a whirlwind of complex emotions, the moment Zhao Mingyue saw the young girl, all that remained was heartache. For Bai Yu, she would have preferred to see the Dark Moon God’s grotesque form lying in the room instead of that precious person.
She would rather think of Bai Sisi as mere nourishment for the Dark Moon God so that at least she could sleep peacefully.
Life was already tough enough; there was no need for even more torment after d*ath. This shouldn’t be her ending.
The Dark Moon God’s presence in the room had entirely vanished. Standing in the doorway, Bai Yu felt nothing but the thudding of her own heart, as if the Dark Moon God had left this room for good, and the girl lying within was simply Bai Sisi, that little girl.
All she had to do was step inside and softly call her name to wake her up, and everything could revert to the way it was before. All those promises she never got the chance to fulfill could be reclaimed.
Bai Yu tried to step into the room. The good news was that this dark world was merely an illusion; her feet firmly touched the ground without falling into an abyss.
Slowing her pace, she approached the little girl’s side.
It had been years since they last met; the last remnants of her existence were memories and photos. Yet, standing beside her and gazing at her youthful face made her feel strangely familiar.
The girl lay peacefully on the bed, her hands gently folded on her abdomen. Her complexion was not pale like an evil ghost; beneath her fair skin, there was the rosy hue of someone still alive. Bai Yu could even hear her breathing, the rhythm of her heart, and see her chest rising and falling with each breath.
She really did seem as if she were just asleep.
Bai Yu clenched her fists, resisting the urge to touch the girl and hold back the overwhelming emotions surging within her.
Suddenly, she noticed Bai Sisi’s eyelashes flutter slightly, and her expression shifted, as if dreaming of something beautiful. Her rosy lips parted slightly, murmuring some indistinct dreams.
Bai Yu’s brow furrowed, prepared for anything; however, the girl’s expression swiftly returned to serene slumber.
Her gaze lingered on the girl’s face. While Bai Sisi’s beauty wasn’t as stunning as Zhao Mingyue’s, it outshone her current form. She possessed that kind of refreshing charm, a beautiful soul; just looking at her made one think she was a sweet little disciple from some fairy tale, perfectly fitting the image in one’s heart.
Bai Yu watched her, losing track of time, until myriad thoughts coalesced into a gentle sigh.
The primary purpose of her entry into this ghostly realm was to ascertain the Dark Moon God’s current state, yet there was a selfish motive entwined within.
Turning to leave, she had no intention of waking the Dark Moon God to engage in a d*ath match.
Just as she reached the doorway, stealing a final glance back at the girl, she was taken aback to see that the girl’s eyes had suddenly opened.
Everything about her seemed just like a living person, except for those pure black eyes.
“I thought you’d stay, just like before, by my side,” the girl said.
Bai Yu paused, noticing the vacant gaze directed at the ceiling. The girl’s lips parted gently, her voice identical to how Bai Yu remembered it. This made her wonder if it was Bai Sisi’s soul speaking or the Dark Moon God.
It was unlikely the Dark Moon God would recognize a pathetic little character like her.
Bai Yu opened her mouth to respond, but a sudden, ferocious energy surged from the girl in white and transformed into a violent gust of black wind that swept over her. Bai Yu desperately summoned bl**d threads to link to the wall beside her, but alas, it was ineffective.
Under this fierce black wind, her summoned bl**d threads dissolved in an instant, and she herself was blown out of the room, the door slamming shut with a “bang,” filled with an ominous black substance.
Bai Yu swiftly stabbed her kn*fe toward the anti-theft door of Room 404, breaking through with ease, but when she pulled it out, she found no damage done to the door. Pressing her hands against it, she felt nothing—but it was frigid.
A familiar oppressive force re-emerged, wrapping around her body. The atmosphere intensified, as if something horrifying was waking up from slumber.
Staying here posed a significant risk to her; Bai Yu could distinctly feel the dark thoughts inside her spiraling out of control, drawn to this rising power.
Not only that, but the whole apartment building trembled violently, slowly crumbling—specifically, swallowed by the darkness of Room 404, gradually being consumed.
Bai Yu leaped down the stairs, her body drifting lightly.
She was a ghost, capable of brief moments of hovering and flying.
In her line of sight, the whole building plunged into darkness, centered around Room 404.
In the depths of that blackness, Bai Yu seemed to catch a glimpse of Bai Sisi. Her silhouette flickered, adorned with a knowing smile.
The freshly awakened presence could likely be driven by Bai Sisi’s soul, but she couldn’t confirm it directly.
What she could affirm was that the Dark Moon God was the one currently controlling Bai Sisi’s body.
Bai Yu severed the approaching tentacles and chose to retreat.
With that many malevolent thoughts swirling inside her, she didn’t stand a chance against the Dark Moon God head-on.
Fortunately, the Dark Moon God was not in perfect condition, just as Bai Yu had anticipated, granting her ample time to escape.
The Dark Moon God’s awakening was within her expectations; otherwise, she wouldn’t have dared to come here so easily.
The Dark Moon God did not pursue her, but all the monsters within the city set their sights on Bai Yu, scrambling forward in a chaotic frenzy.
That part of her dark thoughts boiled over, losing all control, attempting to take hold of her body for itself. This was essentially the Dark Moon God’s power, surpassing Bai Yu’s grasp.
A flash of her kn*fe dealt with the monsters obstructing her path, and she leaped onto the rooftop.
Below, monstrous beings gathered in overwhelming numbers, far surpassing the creatures in Eternal Life Village; the pursuit below her exceeded a thousand.
The Dark Moon God’s will descended as sizable black mist, still resembling Bai Sisi.
“Stay with me, sister, and we can be together forever,” she said.
Despite her words, Bai Yu could see in her eyes that they were unmistakably Bai Sisi’s.
If this was indeed the Dark Moon God, Bai Yu wondered why she would utter such things, what her intentions were.
Her instinct was to attack, as that seemed more in line with the Dark Moon God’s character in her mind.
Unbeknownst to Bai Yu, there had been an agreement between the Dark Moon God and Bai Sisi, and the crux of that bet rested upon her.
