Chapter 299: My Loli Wife is a God
The dormitory building at the old campus was locked tighter than a clam, with even the windows sealed up like a maximum-security vault. Clearly, some bigwigs at the school were involved in this mess, or they were simply bought off with a hefty sum of cash.
From what Zhao Mingyue could gather about the dorm’s condition, it had been abandoned for over three years. However, some fresh footprints on the floor hinted that someone had recently come by.
Perhaps the Evil Ghosts in the dorm had sensed the presence of the living, as the beast-like growls in Zhao Mingyue’s ears suddenly vanished. The eerie silence returned, but she wasn’t fooled; these ghosts weren’t scared, they were just lurking in the shadows, waiting for their prey to come closer.
Stepping into the lobby, Zhao Mingyue stood at the center, right before the dorm manager’s room, flanked by hallways lined with dorms. Thanks to her enhanced vision from her black phone, she could see through most of the darkness—thank goodness for technological advancements!
With all the resentment bottled up in this dorm, the already dark hallways looked like they had been filtered through a spooky fog. Honestly, it gave off a vibe reminiscent of an eerie quest in a game.
The silent hallways held an unsettling promise; each corner could hide an Evil Ghost, and with rows of dorms that felt like they were lined up to haunt her, each one could very well be a Ghost Gate. She had to investigate.
Zhao Mingyue pondered—if all these dorms were filled with ghosts, how many would that be? She could hardly contain her excitement; these were all potential followers!
“What are these ghosts doing, playing hide-and-seek? I’ve been standing here for ages, and no one’s coming out!”
“Just shout!” Bai Yu piped up.
“Huh?” Zhao Mingyue blinked, then took a deep breath and shouted, “Is anyone there?!”
Her voice shattered the silence like a clap of thunder. For a moment, the ghosts inside the dorm were caught off guard, and after a few awkward seconds, shadows began pouring out of the dorms on both sides.
They emitted a visible aura of black resentment, and as more and more ghosts streamed out, it felt like the atmosphere itself was thickening!
The already cramped hallway became even more congested with ghosts crowding in. Zhao Mingyue couldn’t even begin to count how many had emerged.
Among these ghostly figures were quite a few students. Heads bowed, with disheveled black hair, their ghastly, pupil-less eyes fixated on Zhao Mingyue. They felt different from the ghosts in Tianchang City—strange but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
It was like the difference between “domesticated” and “wild.” The Tianchang ghosts were wild—visibly restless and uncontrollable. In contrast, these ghosts were more like a tightly-knit little group, huddled together without attacking each other or making a ruckus.
Danger was still present, though.
They say the dog that bites doesn’t bark, and here were two groups of ghosts silently surrounding her in the dark, inching closer while the dorm doors slammed shut behind her, with a slew of talismans pressing down on her like an invisible weight.
Zhao Mingyue stood her ground as a graceful silhouette appeared behind her.
Bai Yu was clad in a cute little blue-and-white dress that Zhao Mingyue had picked. But let’s face it, cuteness didn’t matter when the stakes were this high; Bai Yu’s own aura overpowered any cuteness factor.
As her body began to levitate, Bai Yu spread her arms wide. A gush of black threads and dark energy emerged from her back, coalescing into a massive sun-like rune.
Zhao Mingyue gasped. Bai Yu’s hair floated as if caught in a breeze, her gaze sharpened dangerously.
With a swift motion, she raised her hand, and the sun rune burst open, flooding the dormitory with a blinding black-red light that bathed all the Evil Ghosts beneath its rays.
In less than a minute, most of the ghosts in the hallway knelt down, almost as if it were instinctual.
Among them was a red-clothed Evil Ghost in the back left. After the other ghosts had bowed, she saw the specter dressed like a classroom attendant. Its shirt was drenched in bl**d, and its head was a gruesome mess—seemingly a victim of s*icide.
Before Zhao Mingyue could even say a word, a bunch of black tentacles shot out from the walls, impaling the red-clothed ghost and lifting it into the air.
While it struggled against the tentacles, they only multiplied, wrapping around it tighter and tighter.
But wait, there’s more! After ensnaring the red-clothed ghost, the tentacles began to unleash waves of black sun energy. It didn’t take long before even a ghost of that caliber was brainwashed, sinking to its knees as a loyal disciple.
The silence dissipated, replaced by a chorus of hushed whispers swirling around her.
With so many ghosts around, Zhao Mingyue couldn’t make out exactly what they were saying.
“Wow, at least forty ghosts! Are these guys crazy?” Zhao Mingyue frowned while surveying the scene. These ghosts were now Bai Yu’s cheap recruits—but that was hardly a good sign.
It indicated that the chaos in Hejiang City might not be any lighter than in Tianchang City.
“Let’s go.”
In just a few short minutes, Bai Yu had scanned the area and summoned her tentacles to dismantle the formation in the hallway.
With her mind-control in play, these ghosts weren’t going to go on a killing spree, but who knew what the folks who raised them would do if they came sniffing around?
“Are we really leaving?” Zhao Mingyue blinked.
“Yup.”
Taking one last look at the bunch of ghosts who had retreated back into their dorms, she locked the door again, feeling contemplative.
Maybe from today onwards, the skies of Hejiang City were destined to change?
“Bai Yu, do you think that at the rate we’re going, those people are going to come after us?”
Zhao Mingyue mused.
The only thing limiting their expansion of followers might just be the quest to find the Ghost Gates.
At this rate, it would be a ghost gate every few minutes—how many of those would even suffice?
By the time they gathered enough, those folks would be as outnumbered as pigs at a barbecue.
If they couldn’t handle the brainwashed Evil Ghosts, they’d inevitably go after the root source—
Which just so happened to be her goddess wife, the Black Sun God!
