Chapter 315: Does Killing My Soul Count as s*icide?
Zhao Mingyue and the Dragon Lady both have rather complicated situations—one’s possibly tied to the world of Ghost Gate while the other is on a mission to eliminate her own half-soul, which is having an identity crisis.
Instead of a broken soul, it’s more like a soul-split situation. At this point, you could think of the yin and yang sides as two completely different people, much like Chen Yunshi and the Thousand Eyes Godmother, but let’s not get tangled up in metaphors of duality.
Essentially, this person and the Evil God are the same, but in practice, they have enough of a relationship to just get married right then and there. I mean, how awkward would it be to say you married yourself?
So even if the Dragon Lady has made this decision, she won’t say much more. Who knows what her dark alter ego is like? It’s probably not a perfect copy of her sunny disposition. The only thing they might share is a mutual adoration for their dear sister, Zhao Mingyue.
And that’s not even a certainty! If the Dragon Lady’s other half is indeed an Evil God, it might want to take over Zhao Mingyue’s body for its own wicked purposes.
“The search for my other half of the soul is on me! I’ve got a hint, and if I follow it, I should find something,” the Dragon Lady said, reclining against the bench with no trace of stress.
She’s still that Dragon Lady. When she says she’s changed, she only means her mindset has shifted a tad. So Bai Yu is not even surprised by this line of thought.
“Well, I can’t help you right now. I need to figure out what’s going on with Mingyue.”
Bai Yu glanced towards Zhao Mingyue, who was squatting by the lake, playfully teasing a swan with some grass.
“What’s up with Mingyue?” asked the Dragon Lady, furrowing her brows.
“Some issues with her body. I recently discovered that while I’m possessing her, using Evil God powers amplifies the effects. I suspect her body is tied to the Ghost Gate world itself.”
“Ghost Gate world?” The Dragon Lady pondered for a second, “I know many Evil Gods like her body—even the Burning Heart Goddess is willing to risk being taken out just to get a piece of that action. But why? What secrets does her body hold? I’m just not sure.”
The Dragon Lady had never delved deep into this matter. She was focused on why Evil Gods were interested in her sister’s body rather than the actual reasons behind it. What’s so captivating about Zhao Mingyue’s body that attracts Evil Gods?
Bai Yu laid out her theories—from the relationship between Evil Gods and the Ghost Gate world to why possessing Zhao Mingyue seems to strengthen the effects of curses. What’s the connection there?
“We didn’t notice it before because I didn’t have Evil God powers. Her body’s uniqueness only manifests in the presence of Evil Gods. That’s not good for her, and right now I don’t know what this special physique means for her.”
Special physiques surely can’t be all upside; the primary concern would be their impact on oneself.
“I’m thinking—maybe if Mingyue enters the Ghost Gate world, we’ll figure things out. But that’s too risky; I can’t guarantee she’ll come back out afterward.”
Bai Yu definitely doesn’t want Zhao Mingyue to go in, so she’s not about to unravel that mystery.
“Just because you don’t want her to go doesn’t mean she won’t be keen to.” The Dragon Lady stood up. “She knows you plan to search for the Dark Moon God in the Ghost Gate, and she’s likely to want in. I get her feelings—she doesn’t want to lag behind; she wants to feel valuable.”
The Dragon Lady shrugged. “But we can’t just go along with her; it could lead to serious trouble.”
“Honestly, I wish she’d be okay with being a little useless. That would actually work out!”
“She just doesn’t get it. Her biggest contribution isn’t about how strong she is; we don’t need her for fighting!”
“Her brain isn’t the sharpest, and somehow she still has to have this stubborn streak. What a headache!”
“By the way, aren’t you supposed to take care of your redemption mission and summon your Night Bright? If you don’t hurry with the Dream Nightmare situation, you might miss your chance!”
“She’ll either recruit others or just wipe them out; she won’t waste time.”
“Speaking of which, do I have a redemption mission? I never heard you mention it before.”
Bai Yu remembered the Dragon Lady’s redemption mission. It was in Eternal Life Village, too many things were happening, so it slipped her mind, and she had zero clues about her redemption. Other’s redemptions were usually found; the Dragon Lady’s was practically a nuclear wipeout without triggering anything.
“Your redemption task was back in Eternal Life Village. I don’t know how to trigger it, and we didn’t succeed even after taking the place down. The task description offered no hints, so we just have to drop it.”
Bai Yu took some steps toward Zhao Mingyue while saying, “The task just mentioned your transformation into a Dragon person and how you were in emotional distress; other than that, nothing.”
“Becoming a Dragon person? I think I might have an idea about that. If I’m guessing right, it might be related to my soul. Maybe helping me eliminate my other half is part of it…”
The Dragon Lady said this half-jokingly. But suddenly, a thought struck her; she exchanged a glance with Bai Yu as the realization hit. “Could it actually be that? Looks like we’ll have to hit up Eternal Life Village once more.”
The mission may have failed, but the stuff to solve is still there. They could sort it out when they got back, and who knows, maybe they could even trigger the mission again.
So far, the redemption tasks they’ve encountered unlocked and completed on the same day. The only failure was the Dragon Lady’s this time, so they couldn’t confirm if the same task could be triggered again. Even if it could, the rewards might change or be nonexistent altogether.
The rewards come from what you accomplish within the task, not just magically appearing.
If a chance is missed, the next time around, what they encounter could be completely different.
“Once I wrap up what’s happening here, I’ll head back to Eternal Life Village.” After a moment of silence, Bai Yu stepped closer to Zhao Mingyue.
“Eternal Life Village?” Zhao Mingyue, kneeling near the lake and watching the swans, immediately picked up the keyword when she heard Bai Yu’s voice.
“Yup, Eternal Life Village.” The Dragon Lady squatted down beside her. “I’m also from there. There’s a bit of a past, and I might have an old friend hanging around. She’s my friend, not someone you’re familiar with, Bai Yu. I plan to chat with her when I get back… and maybe even eliminate her.”
“‘Eliminate?’” Zhao Mingyue gave her a strange look. “Is that how you treat your friends? Being your friend sounds pretty rough!”
“That’s why you’re not my friend. You’re my sister,” the Dragon Lady smiled.
“It should be ‘sister’ instead. You’re just a kid! Don’t you feel embarrassed calling yourself an older sister? Little lolis should embrace the fact that they’re the younger ones!” Zhao Mingyue stood, placing a hand on the Dragon Lady’s head.
“Okay, okay, sister, we good now?”
“That sounds more like it.”
“Let’s get something to eat first; I’m starving!” The Dragon Lady dragged Zhao Mingyue along. “Seriously, as the older sister, you should be more responsible! You’re paying for this meal!”
“Sure, I’ll treat! What do you want to eat? Pick whatever!”
The entire afternoon, Bai Yu accompanied the two sisters as they strolled around the city. In the Dragon Lady’s words, there’s no need to worry about Tianfa Sect; their people will just waltz right into their plans.
Who knows, there could even be some unexpected gains! And those unexpected gains probably refer to the Gatekeeper.
The Dragon Lady shared the basics regarding the Gatekeeper and the Tianfa Sect, all while chuckling.
The Gatekeeper is one who trips and falls, only to trip again—what a comedy!
Unfortunately, she wouldn’t be able to wipe them all out this time. Those pesky guys might be annoying, but at least they keep the Ghost Gate stable. Without them, the ghosts running amok could lead to plenty of chaos.
The Dragon Lady managed to break into the inner circle and even learned about the timing of their operations.
Before night fell, she received word from Chairman Chen that Tianfa Sect had agreed to her terms; now, they were just waiting to arrange a full-scale assault.
“So we’re headed to the Ghost Gate next?” The Dragon Lady looked at Zhao Mingyue, who had a rather mischievous glint in her eyes, not quite understanding where this conversation was headed.
“Hehehe! Once you go, you’ll know! You’ll definitely be surprised!” Zhao Mingyue’s smile was one that hinted at trouble brewing.
The Dragon Lady glanced at Bai Yu and noted her indifference; she even seemed a bit resigned.
She had a hunch it probably had something to do with Bai Yu.
Rubbing her chin, the Dragon Lady mused, “Let me guess—you’re heading to the Ghost Gate to gather believers, and you need Bai Yu’s curse for that?”
“So, Bai Yu, what’s the format of your curse?”
She shot a knowing look at Zhao Mingyue, as if saying, “You’re not gonna outsmart me, little sister!”
“It’s light.” Unable to intimidate the Dragon Lady, Zhao Mingyue whispered, “As long as Bai Yu shines the light on them, they can become believers.”
“Is it that strong?”
“Uh-huh!” Zhao Mingyue animatedly gestured, “Especially this part, fly up and zoom down—easy peasy!”
“Oh? I’ll need to see that; taking pictures should be fine, right?”
“Totally fine!” As she spoke, Zhao Mingyue uncaringly revealed her phone, flipping through a gallery filled with dozens of photos—Bai Yu in various dresses flying through the sky, either sporting wings or dark sun symbols in the background, showering light on believers while a group of ghosts knelt below.
These photos were fantastic in terms of color, background, and characters, especially Bai Yu, whose adorable little face was uncharacteristically serious like a little girl trying to play it tough.
And those outfits? Zhao Mingyue couldn’t fathom what mindset Bai Yu had when she wore that to recruit believers!
Like that one JK uniform—was she not worried about a wardrobe malfunction while flying in that?
If Tianfa Sect knew the Black Sun God was pulling this kind of aesthetic, they’d have a field day with it.
