### Chapter 318: Chen Yunshi’s Frustration
Threatening the Gatekeeper Chairman is definitely a no-go. If he dares to make a move, the Gatekeeper will retaliate, and that’s just the recipe for disaster.
Zhou Shan was on the lookout for the chairman’s daughter, hoping to squeeze some intel out of her. She might possess some insider knowledge. Worst case, he could even bribe her a little for her cooperation. With her identity, digging up information would surely be a breeze compared to their clumsy attempts.
And if it flops? No biggie! They weren’t banking on much anyway.
But if it works out, it’d be a major score!
In Zhou Shan’s eyes, women usually lacked brains. With a father like hers, how bad could their relationship be? She wouldn’t even consider how this intel might shake her dad’s power if it got into the wrong hands.
“Let’s get someone on it now! Move it!” Zhou Shan waved his pudgy hand.
“Yes, sir!”
The teacher they needed to contact was named Chen Yunshi, and she was the only daughter of the Gatekeeper Chairman.
Gazing out the window, Zhou Shan dreamt of a bright future.
He just hoped Chen Yunshi would agree and the mission would go swimmingly.
The more he thought about it, the more crucial it seemed. It could even impact the future of the Tianfa Sect!
“No way, I can’t tie myself to one tree! Time to brainstorm some alternatives.” He stroked his chin, mumbling to himself.
Then, an idea sparked in his head.

“I have to admit, sometimes you surprise me! You’re not completely brainless; you can make a semi-decent decision now and then.” Qian Mu, the Thousand Eyes Godmother, twirled around Chen Yunshi as she sat in her office, munching on lunch.
It was break time at school, students were on summer vacation, and most teachers had gone home.
But not her! She was stuck here grading papers because trekking back and forth was a hassle. Plus, Qian Mu had picked up the awful habit of sleeping in lately. Sure, a noon nap is fine, but now she was even hitting snooze!
How could a parasitic evil god need sleep?
Aren’t ghost-types supposed to be sleepless monsters?
She had no idea where Qian Mu learned such a skill.
“Shut your mouth! And get back to where you came from, don’t cause me trouble!” Chen Yunshi grumbled through a mouthful of food.
“Oh, come on! At this hour, aside from your not-so-stable brain, everyone else is napping! Besides, the camera in this office is broken. No one is coming in to disturb us. You could even do something… saucy, and no one would notice.”
“And don’t change the subject!”
“I’m just saying, this life isn’t too bad! I’ll reluctantly consider it one right choice on your part—after all, simple is real!”
What she meant was that Chen Yunshi was done working with Bai Yu. After helping Bai Yu with one last thing, she planned to wash her hands of all this trouble and lead a peaceful existence with Qian Mu.
Initially, Qian Mu didn’t fully grasp her. To her, following Bai Yu seemed like the golden ticket.
But this newfound tranquility, combined with the changes she’d observed, made her realize how smart Chen Yunshi’s decision truly was. Otherwise, they might still be squabbling with evil gods and Ghost Gates right now.
“Just shut it! Less chit-chat.” Chen Yunshi scrunched her nose in disgust at her meal. It tasted like reheated frozen vegetables.
Too bad she didn’t know how to cook, and neither did Qian Mu.
And the cafeteria food? Don’t even get her started; it was worse than takeout.
“Look at me trying to compliment you! And here you are, acting like a s*ck-up. Next time, I’ll throw all your cheap booze away! Why can’t you buy something nice?” Qian Mu circled Chen Yunshi again before stopping to cup her face.
Their eyes locked, and Chen Yunshi’s glare practically radiated murderous intent. She almost snapped her disposable chopsticks in half.
“Are you going to buy me some?”
“Money’s easy to come by! Besides, I recently heard your old man is loaded. He could buy you a truckload of ’82 Bordeaux. Why don’t you just cozy up to him? No more worries about food and clothing for life!”
“That money has nothing to do with me! I’m not that close to him,” Chen Yunshi snapped, just as she was about to grab Qian Mu’s face. Suddenly, the door swung open.
“Yunshi, I brought you lunch…” A young, bespectacled male teacher froze in place, eyes wide as his gaze locked with someone inside.
Chen Yunshi had her back to him, so naturally, it was Qian Mu who met his gaze.
The atmosphere thickened; Qian Mu waved, “Hi there! Don’t worry about lunch; our dear Yunshi has already eaten!”
As she spoke, a pitch-black eye opened on her forehead. The teacher’s expression went blank as he unwittingly fell under her curse.
“I told you, you’re just giving me trouble!” Chen Yunshi’s eyelid twitched. She had been too riled up by Qian Mu moments prior to even notice.
Seeing Chen Yunshi’s irritation, Qian Mu forced a grin and promptly dove back into her host’s body. She understood all too well that if she lingered too long, Chen Yunshi would unleash an epic beatdown—the kind that left scars!
With an exasperated sigh, Chen Yunshi waved the teacher away, resolving to thoroughly wring her frustrations out on Qian Mu later.
Losing her appetite, she was about to clean off the takeout when she noticed a missed call.
Since her phone was usually on silent, she hadn’t picked it up. The time? Fifteen minutes ago. Chen Yunshi furrowed her brow and called back.
She half-expected it to be a parent, but no! The caller announced themselves as a member of the Tianfa Sect.
Of course, she knew what the Tianfa Sect was; she even had spies embedded within.
She stayed silent, letting the caller finish their spiel.
After a moment, the call ended, and Qian Mu poked her head out.
“Uh oh, there’s something fishy here. They want you to do a task? Isn’t that like digging your own grave?”
Chen Yunshi remained mute for a while.
“Hey! You’re not seriously considering it, are you?”
“Trouble’s brewing.” Chen Yunshi narrowed her eyes.
“Uh-huh?”
“The Gatekeeper and the Tianfa Sect are teaming up to hunt an evil god. The Gatekeeper Chairman has already agreed.”
“Okay, so what’s the big deal?”
But before Qian Mu could finish her thought, she caught a glimpse of Chen Yunshi’s complicated expression.
“The evil god they’re after is called Black Sun.”
“!”
Qian Mu’s eyes widened, “Is that the same Black Sun I’m thinking about?!”
“Yes.”
“Oh boy, your dad’s not exactly a genius, is he? Wasn’t his last crash and burn with Bai Yu? And now he’s about to hit the same wall twice?”
Qian Mu was very familiar with the name Black Sun. That poor pathetic creature had been devoured half-and-half by her and Bai Yu, leaving nothing left.
So, the current Black Sun was nothing like the previous one. Only Bai Yu could wield that identity.
And she knew Bai Yu’s power; she could handle the Gatekeeper with ease. Had they all forgotten about last time, when over a hundred people perished?
That loss would sting for the Gatekeeper, especially since it all split into two factions, with the dead supporting Chen Yunshi’s dad’s side.
“So, what’s your plan? Call your dad and tell him to back off?” Qian Mu hesitated, “You don’t have his number, do you? Or just find a Gatekeeper to relay it for you. I’m sure they’d take you seriously if you flaunted your status as the Chairman’s daughter.”
“Not a solid idea.” Chen Yunshi stood up, clearing the table before heading toward the door.
“Once he agreed to help, he must have already gained something. It’s too late to backtrack now.”
“What to do then? How about calling Bai Yu? Ask her to go easy on the old man when the time comes?”
“Sure, but we need to go see for ourselves.”
Chen Yunshi was annoyed. She could call Bai Yu directly, but would Bai Yu listen to her? The Gatekeeper was already locked and loaded against her—no way she’d hold back.
Plus, this wasn’t a small affair; letting Bai Yu go easy on the old man would just leave Chen Yunshi in her debt.
It was also tempting not to go; she truly didn’t want to see her dad get taken out so easily.
“Let’s go! Don’t worry, I’ll tag along. We might even snag some cash from your dad while we’re at it! Look at you, having a heart! Sharp tongue, soft heart! A hundred complaints from you, but your body is all in!”
“Shut up.”
·
·
Zoom forward two days, and as night fell on mission day, the Gatekeeper forces were gathered and ready to roll. But for some reason, Chairman Chen had an awful feeling nagging at him.
This feeling was eerily reminiscent of the last operation. He couldn’t put his finger on what was off. He’d already gathered intel on Black Sun—she hadn’t killed a single ghost and mainly focused on gathering believers. So, it was safe to rule out any connection to Gluttony.
Rubbing his temples, Chairman Chen stood at the window’s edge.
He hoped it was just his overactive imagination; after all, the last loss had been enormous.
“This time, it has to work.”
Mumbling to himself, Chairman Chen gazed out at the cityscape.
Though he was claiming to lend a hand, he was really setting his sights on the Tianfa Sect.
If he failed again, his position as chairman was toast; Li Tianan would squeeze him out.
But if he successfully brought down the Tianfa Sect, at least there’d be some hope on the horizon.
Just then, a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.
“Chairman, someone’s here to see you. The person says her name is Chen Yunshi.”
“Yunshi?” Chairman Chen spun around sharply.
