### Chapter Thirty-Three: Who, Normal Person, Likes a Female Ghost Anyway?
That night, when Lu Liangting woke up from room 506, the female ghost had already made her entrance. Thankfully, he had done a few chores for her in her memories, so she opted to munch on the Old Landlord instead of him.
After he emerged, he started searching for Zhao Mingyue. He turned the fifth floor upside down but found nothing. Moving down to the fourth floor, just as he arrived, his ghostly buddy Zhang Lin whispered that something was off on the third floor.
By the time he reached the third floor, the first thing that caught his eye was Xia Han lying on the ground, lifeless.
Xia Han had met her end there. The killer? Who knew? Oddly enough, she bore no wounds—no signs of struggle. The coroner suspected it was sudden cardiac arrest, but Lu Liangting knew Xia Han was in perfect health. That person did not just drop dead!
After all, Xia Han was his cousin! He couldn’t just stand by and watch her d*e, so he called the cops.
“What happened after that day, during the time I passed out?”
In the deserted corner of the third floor, Lu Liangting asked with utmost seriousness.
He genuinely wanted to know what happened later—how the Old Landlord got in, why the female ghost went berserk, and where Zhao Mingyue had vanished to. Also, that young girl ghost had saved him in the female ghost’s memories. Why did she keep swooping in to rescue him?
Once or twice might be a coincidence. But to save him repeatedly? No way that was by chance!
Lu Liangting was desperate to unravel the truth.
Under Lu Liangting’s intense gaze, Zhao Mingyue felt a bit awkward. After all, she had left him to fend for himself against the ghost while she bolted.
Bai Yu had a point; Lu Liangting was safe. If he were truly in danger, he wouldn’t be hanging around now.
But she couldn’t exactly tell him it was Bai Yu’s idea that he was fine, which was why she ditched him to go back for a bubble bath.
“Well, right after you went in, you just fainted. I shouted your name, but you wouldn’t wake up. So, I took a peek into that room and saw the female ghost in the bathroom. She spotted me, and I had to run. Just as I got outside, the door slammed shut—no chance of getting it open.”
“I was in a pickle. There were so many ghosts on the fourth and fifth floors, so I just hid at home and didn’t come out since.”
Zhao Mingyue’s eyes sparkled with sincerity; not a hint of deceit. Lu Liangting nodded, falling into deep thought.
“Do you know what happened to that ghost, the girl in the white dress?”
“No, no idea.”
“Think again. Since she showed up there, something must have gone down in that building. She couldn’t leave because of the ghost on the fifth floor—tortured every second…” Lu Liangting’s voice grew urgent. He paused, “Apologies for getting worked up. I just… she saved my life, so I should do something for her.”
Lu Liangting had taken on numerous tasks, but rarely had he felt such a profound connection with a ghost. Of course, none had saved his skin so many times!
His appearance often led people to overlook details, yet at that moment, weariness and fatigue were evident. Clearly, he hadn’t rested much over the past couple of days; a little agitation was completely normal.
“I don’t know; I never investigated that building and haven’t seen her since.”
“Alright, I think I’ll go check it out when I have some free time. Maybe I’ll run into her again. By the way, Mingyue, the female ghost on the fifth floor isn’t dead yet. As long as she’s around, the ghosts will keep showing up. Living there alone, you better be careful. In a few days, I’ll help you find a new place.”
“No, no need! I’m fine there! I just need to figure out a way to deal with that ghost!” With Bai Yu around, Zhao Mingyue was fearless and waved her hands, brushing off his worries.
In her arms, Miss Rabbit’s scarlet eyes fixed firmly on Lu Liangting, head tilted like a mere decoration.
Bai Yu had been listening in on their entire exchange.
The first part was normal and well within her expectations—Lu Liangting would definitely grill Zhao Mingyue about what happened that night.
But she never anticipated that Lu Liangting hadn’t forgotten about her.
Not only did he remember, but he seemed even more obsessive than before—now that was downright creepy!
It made her start to suspect what his true motives were.
Does a normal person get that hung up on a ghost?
His cousin just kicked the bucket in the Sunshine Apartments, and instead of hunting for the killer, he’s fretting over her. Truly ridiculous!
From Lu Liangting’s tone and intent, he was bent on not giving up until he found her, even if it meant venturing into the haunted building again.
Bai Yu thought to herself, could it be that Lu Liangting was feigning interest, actually aware of something, and attempting to probe Zhao Mingyue? But the chances of that seemed slim.
She couldn’t shake off a more ridiculous thought: What if this kid had a crush on her?
If that’s the case, then hats off to him for having such peculiar tastes. Who in their right mind would like a ghost? Especially one they haven’t even met that many times?
Bai Yu dismissed that idea; it was utterly absurd. Just then, Zhao Mingyue’s hand suddenly rested on her head as she hurried into the classroom.
“Hey, little Bai Yu! Lu Liangting’s looking for you! It seems like you’ve left quite an impression on him. So, what should we do? Wait for him to come to us?”
“If he dares, I’ll k*ll him.”
“Aww, such a cruel little sister! He just wants to see you!”
“……”
“Alright, I won’t say another word. Don’t be mad.” Patting Bai Yu’s head, Zhao Mingyue walked back into the class.
At this point, Li Nan had returned, slumped in his seat, staring down, oblivious to whatever he was doing.
Zhao Mingyue took a glance at him, sat back down, and pulled out a piece of chocolate from a box in her desk to offer to Li Nan.
“Here, give it a try. It’s really delicious!”
Li Nan turned around, accepting the chocolate, and reached out to brush his fingers over Zhao Mingyue’s palm. But she had already snatched her hand away.
“Mingyue, you absolutely must stay after school! I have something important to discuss with you!”
“I can’t.” Zhao Mingyue cut him off flatly.
“I…” Li Nan choked on his words, a fire of frustration simmering inside.
Why could Lu Liangting do it, and he couldn’t?
“Why not?”
“Because I need to go to work.”
“I’ll pay you! I’ll give you ten times your wage for today!”
“No, I prefer to earn my money myself.”
“You HAVE to stay today. Otherwise…” Li Nan grit his teeth, finally managing to spit out, “Otherwise, we can’t be friends anymore!”
