Chapter 349: The Chosen One Mingyue

“Think about it, Bai Yu! If something goes wrong, Dragon Lady and I will be right there in the line of fire with you. The Dark Moon God won’t spare us—without you, what are we going to do? Live in fear, hiding and dodging every day?”
“I still have school! I’m in high school—this is crucial for college prep and jobs! So much to do!”
“If you’re out of the picture, what am I supposed to do?”
“If I can lend a hand and we actually win against the Dark Moon God, I can figure out my stuff later. There has to be some solution.”
“With you here, we’ve got hope, don’t we?”
“You defeated the Dark Moon God! This means my body isn’t a big deal for you!”
She massaged Bai Yu’s shoulders as if to reason with her, but the tone felt more like coaxing.
“Oh my Bai Yu, just give it a try, and if it doesn’t work, we can find other solutions!”
As Zhao Mingyue’s sister, Dragon Lady nodded in agreement after some thought.
“Right, Bai Yu! I can’t help you much anyway, so Mingyue’s logic is sound. You’re our hope; with you, we can maintain this lovely, peaceful life!”
“If Mingyue is indeed affected by her identity, it’s not impossible to fix! She’s the Lord of the Ghost Gate, and you were close to her. Didn’t you say the Dark Moon God lives where Mingyue and you used to live? So she knows about Mingyue already.”
“Honestly, the more you avoid this, the more dangerous it gets.”
After Dragon Lady chimed in, Zhao Mingyue nodded vigorously and thought, ‘What an amazing sister!’
Bai Yu glanced sideways at Dragon Lady, who had changed quite a bit since absorbing that other half of her soul—plus, getting to know Mingyue had helped too.
“I’m not trying to stop Mingyue, Dragon Lady, but have you thought about this?”
“Since you know Mingyue is the Lord of the Ghost Gate, if we activate that identity, how’s she supposed to get out of the Ghost Gate?”
“She’s vital to that world! Do you really think she can flit back and forth like us?”
“Of course! Wait, let me think…” Dragon Lady hesitated but quickly recalled, “You said Mingyue is only half of the Lord of the Ghost Gate and the other half is Lu Liangting. As long as Lu Liangting doesn’t step in, Mingyue won’t be the complete version. She should be able to come out!”
“If that doesn’t work, we can just open the Ghost Gate wide. It’ll cause some trouble, but we have time to sort it out.”
“Yeah, yeah, there’s definitely a way out!” Zhao Mingyue eagerly agreed.
Bai Yu felt a headache coming on from their chatter. They did have a point—if something went wrong, they could lose everything. “Fine, we can try. But if anything seems off, we pull the plug immediately. We’re done talking about this.”
“Yay, it’s a deal!”
One thing was for certain: Zhao Mingyue could only trigger her abilities once inside the Ghost Gate world. They’d need to find a controllable real Ghost Gate and let Zhao Mingyue try it out halfway.
First, though, Bai Yu had to clear out all surrounding monsters and ensure the Dark Moon God wasn’t onto their plans—then they’d be golden.
With the plan set, Zhao Mingyue was done sulking.
Some situations left no room for choices, just like Li Tianan. If he didn’t team up with the Nightmare, he’d have to watch his daughter get swallowed whole by the Ghost Gate. Collaborating with the Nightmare might just give him a fighting chance.
The trouble was that she and Bai Yu were off galivanting during that time; otherwise, Li Tianan would have contacted them first.
Back home, Dragon Lady picked up Li Xuener and placed her on the living room sofa.
Checking the girl’s condition, she seemed alright—no major impacts on vitality—just as if she were peacefully asleep. Li Tianan had clearly taken excellent care of her.
She was just a tad on the petite side, but otherwise fine. Once Li Xuener woke up, Dragon Lady could take control of her body without issues—it’d just take a few days to adjust.
“That poor kiddo,” Zhao Mingyue murmured, her eyes downcast.
She recalled the dream world, where only a barren silence filled the air—no colors, no sounds—nothing but a solitary Ghost Gate standing there. In such a suffocating environment, not even a month would be enough to drive someone nuts.
How Li Xuener had managed to hold on all these years and remain lucid was beyond her.
It must be her special gift; without it, she would’ve long since lost control of the Ghost Gate.
“Honestly, a lot of folks should thank her. If she hadn’t been holding down the fort at that Ghost Gate, the others would’ve spiraled out of control, and then it would truly be pandemonium.”
Having Li Xuener’s consciousness there must somewhat impact the Ghost Gate, preventing it from opening on its own.
“Bai Yu, come take a look.” Dragon Lady stood up and motioned for Bai Yu to kneel in front of Li Xuener.
Bai Yu used her powers to scrutinize every detail of Li Xuener’s body—she was assessing her constitution. But with a comprehensive scan, it turned out Li Xuener’s prowess was mainly her strong mental energy, not even as special as Feng Xi’s!
So yeah, Li Xuener had been holding her ground against the Ghost Gate solely with her willpower.
“She’s indeed impressive, but she can’t break free on her own unless…”
Bai Yu didn’t finish, but Zhao Mingyue knew all too well. Unless Zhao Mingyue was the Lord of the Ghost Gate and could manipulate the Ghost Gate world, Li Xuener’s consciousness would stay trapped.
“That’s yet another reason for Mingyue to dive into the truth.” Dragon Lady shrugged.
Not long after, Li Qingtang arrived at the community gate following Zhao Mingyue’s directions. Mingyue led her back home, and the moment she spotted the girl on the sofa, her emotions exploded.
After a good cry, Zhao Mingyue handed her a tissue.
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t bring the Store Manager back. He’s a good guy; it’s just that this world isn’t kind to him.”
Honestly, Li Tianan was a solid dude—great character and living style—he’d outsell any gatekeeper.
Often, he helped families tangled in spooky messes, covering the costs himself.
“Sister Li, after you take Xuener back, please hold off on using your method for a while. I want to see if I can wake her up first.”
“If it doesn’t work in a month, contact me. If you can’t reach me, just go ahead and use your method, okay?”
Li Qingtang kept thanking her, almost wanting to kneel, but Zhao Mingyue quickly caught her.
After sending the mother and daughter off in a taxi, Zhao Mingyue yawned and turned back home with Bai Yu.
Dragon Lady headed home too, promising to return tomorrow for a fun celebration.
