Chapter 39: She is My Beloved Sister
Zhao Mingyue gripped her solid magic wand, resembling a crane’s beak, tightly in her palm. After the power boost from her last task’s flawless completion, this “weapon” now had a greatly enhanced punch.
“What on earth is that thing outside? It shouldn’t be Lu Liangting, right?” Zhao Mingyue whispered to Bai Yu, who stood to the side of the door.
To say she was scared would be an understatement. She felt more bizarre than afraid, especially with a female ghost in her room who was quite the comfort blanket.
“Li Nan.”
“Huh? It’s him? How does he have Lu Liangting’s number?”
“It’s just an illusion. You can use it only at a certain distance. That’s not what matters; what matters is the thing he’s using to cast the illusion.”
Bai Yu had a bad feeling.
Li Nan was a weakling, but the issue lay with the person behind him—definitely not a simple foe.
She didn’t believe for a second that Li Nan had just acquired that thing. But whether it was true or not, they’d find out after taking him down.
“Get ready to open the door; I’ll deal with his trick, and Li Nan is yours.”
“Got it!” Zhao Mingyue nodded vigorously.
Her slender fingers tightened around the wand, raising it high above her head.
With those delicate little arms, one wouldn’t expect her to have much strength. But that “thing” in her hand definitely looked menacing.
Bai Yu took a step back, and with a swift motion, Zhao Mingyue flung the door open.
In an instant, a long black shadow shot towards them from Li Nan, revealed to be an elongated shadowy arm.
Bai Yu snorted, raising her hand casually to grip it firmly.
Like Zhao Mingyue, she looked delicate and doll-like, making it hard to believe she had any real power. Yet in reality, Zhao Mingyue might be scrawny, but Bai Yu was the opposite.
At this moment, her slender arm unleashed a shockingly terrifying strength as she tightened her grip on the shadow’s wrist. Her expression remained calm, even as the shadow’s hand contorted, the wrist crushed as if bones had been splintered, leaving only raw flesh.
The shadow quivered, but Bai Yu maintained her hold. Pulling fiercely, she wanted to drag the shadow closer, but surprisingly, it chose to sever the arm instead.
Meanwhile, Zhao Mingyue looked just as fierce. Without a second thought about who was outside when she opened the door, whether it was really Li Nan or not, she smashed the sharp-headed magic wand straight down.
Sure enough, it was Li Nan standing there.
Seeing Zhao Mingyue fling the door open, a sadistic grin crept onto his face.
He could hardly wait to unleash his darkest and most brutal desires upon Zhao Mingyue’s delicate form, wanting to possess her fully.
However, the instant the door opened, a red bird-beak-shaped hammer with cute white wings rapidly filled his vision.
Li Nan’s pupils dilated. The blunt tip of the magic wand slammed against his nose, causing it to collapse instantly, bl**d spraying forth as pain twisted his face.
Being a blunt object, it didn’t slice off his nose or break the skin, but he heard a distinct cracking sound that left him dazed and clueless about what had just broken.
With tears streaming down and bl**d gushing from his nose, Li Nan plopped down onto the ground.
Wearing a black hood and mask, when he fell, his unmistakable yellow, center-parted, foil-style hair was exposed to the world.
Before this, or rather, before Room 404’s door had swung open, Li Nan had never expected Zhao Mingyue’s combat prowess to be this terrifying.
He deliberately used the illusion to intimidate her, hoping the monster behind him would feed off her fear and grow stronger. Deep down, he wanted to see Zhao Mingyue terrified, playing with her fears like a cat with a mouse.
He was fed up with Zhao Mingyue’s superiority complex; he loved seeing that fearful glimmer in her eyes.
Behind the door, Bai Yu gripped the shadow’s arm with one hand, bl**d threads spilling out from her palm, consuming the arm entirely.
Her face was expressionless, clad in a dress as white as snow, with twin low ponytails hanging delicately behind her. The bangs in front were secured with a red hair clip, and the neck had big red bows holding the ponytails.
She was overall perfection, as if carved by the hands of a deity—unless one were to notice the pair of glowing red irises peeking from her otherwise charming appearance.
Admittedly, Zhao Mingyue’s “meticulous styling” had made Bai Yu’s oppressive aura drop sharply, but underestimating her strength would lead to disastrous consequences.
Li Nan held his nose, scooting backward a few feet until his back hit the wall.
His mask was stained red with bl**d, which dripped down his chin.
In his blurry vision, Zhao Mingyue stood at the door, clutching her wand. There was no fear on her face; in fact, she wore a soft smile, while the evil ghost loomed silently behind her like a shadow.
“Li Nan, so it really is you! I don’t get it—what about me makes you want to k*ll me so badly?”
A small, thin black figure huddled behind Li Nan, ominously terrifying, yet shying away, daring not to appear.
“I… I barely gained this power! How do you have it too?” Li Nan was starting to lose it.
He had nearly sacrificed his life to grow close to that shadow, but now this shadow, so strong, was clearly scared to act in front of the evil ghost standing behind Zhao Mingyue.
He refused to believe it!
This had to be fake—this was the master’s power, how could it lose!?
“How do I have it?” Zhao Mingyue blinked innocently, glancing back at Bai Yu.
“Oh, you mean her? She’s my beloved sister!”
With that, Zhao Mingyue turned to Bai Yu, flashing a smile while pointing at Li Nan. “So what do we do with him? Call the police?”
Bai Yu shook her head, remaining silent as she vanished into Zhao Mingyue’s shadow.
Zhao Mingyue found it strange that Bai Yu suddenly stopped acting, and as she turned around, she saw Li Nan attempting to escape.
Where did he get the strength from?
Zhao Mingyue hurriedly chased after him, but just a few steps away, she noticed he had stopped again.
Because at the staircase’s corner, someone was hastily stepping out.
“Lu Liangting!?” Zhao Mingyue recognized the figure coming down from the fifth floor—it was Lu Liangting in the flesh!
Just moments ago, Bai Yu had indeed mentioned Lu Liangting was on the fifth floor confronting a female ghost. No wonder she had looked so scared when receiving Li Nan’s message.
“Li Nan?” Lu Liangting stood before him, noticing the shadow on Li Nan’s back.
