Chapter 59: Lu Liangting: My Life is Over
Task 652 is extremely important. Bai Yu is itching to find out how completing this task will change her, just to figure out why the sc*m Game set it up like this.
She’s never encountered a situation like this before, especially not on her last task.
For Task 652, what’s the difference between success and failure?
There are way too many questions to ponder. Today, Task 652 is like a kn*fe pressed against her throat—it’s getting done, no whining allowed!
That said, she isn’t worried about Zhao Mingyue; she’s left some backup plans with her. There’s no way she’d let Zhao go on an adventure without some safety net.
One more thing, she’s pretty sure the Old Principal isn’t at the Youth Palace. It’s very likely he’s in the canteen.
That old geezer has a taste for humans; the aroma of meat from the Midnight Canteen is self-explanatory. Conveniently, the souls of those who got eaten are also lingering about, and their strength is generally weak. So, the Old Principal is most likely here, or perhaps in that certain classroom.
But one thing’s for sure: Lu Liangting.
If it turns out that this person really is Lu Liangting, then the Old Principal must be in the canteen.
Lu Liangting is the protagonist, so Bai Yu believes in the protagonist’s irresistible charm towards the BOSS.
She scanned her surroundings as she crossed the overgrown grass.
Being a ghost changes your perspective. In her view, the whole school is wrapped in a thin layer of bl**d mist. Underneath this mist, black shadows flicker here and there, and the walls of the school—inside and out—are clinging to little strands of bl**d.
And at that building cloaked in night, with “Canteen” written in bloody letters on the entrance, the red mist is thickest.
It’s safe to say that even if the Old Principal isn’t in the canteen, he must frequent this place.
“The canteen…”
Bai Yu’s sense of smell isn’t very sharp, but the meaty aroma wafting from the canteen is practically magical, completely bypassing her poor olfactory skills and swirling around her nose.
“This is the spot, let’s go.”
Bai Yu’s figure shimmered, and in a blink, she appeared inside the canteen, having darted nearly ten meters in the time it takes to blink.
“Ugh, what a terrifying guy,” Shen Shuyun muttered, but she still followed her inside.
With a teammate like this around, it’s a whole lot easier.
“Did Lu Liangting come with you?”
As they entered the first floor of the canteen, Bai Yu noted the spacious hall, the aroma of meat growing stronger. She could even hear bubbling sounds, like someone was cooking soup.
In addition, a “bang bang bang” echoed from the second floor, a dull thumping against the door.
Looking at the dissipating black mist spreading across the hall, she didn’t need to guess what had happened here.
Back when Zhao Mingyue was still in the dormitory, she had already seen three ghosts heading toward the canteen, all drawn in by the noise.
Those three ghosts must have faced the Old Principal and ended up dead in a brutal manner.
“Did Lu Liangting come with you?”
“Yes.”
“Let’s head upstairs.”
The guy who’s being hunted upstairs is definitely Lu Liangting; Bai Yu felt a headache coming on. Why does she keep running into him? And it’s always in these situations!
She has to go upstairs and take out the Old Principal. Once he sees that, he’ll surely get all sentimental again.

Meanwhile, Lu Liangting was hiding in a back kitchen room on the second floor of the canteen, bracing himself against the door, determined not to let whatever’s outside come in.
Talk about bad luck—he knew there was a task here and had come to search for Shen Shuyun. When he found the front door unlocked, he just pushed it open and walked in.
As he entered, following the light of his flashlight, he discovered the canteen had long been emptied out, filled with dust and spider webs, looking like it hadn’t been used in years.
Yet the meat aroma lingered on, coming from who knows where.
He searched the first floor but found neither Shen Shuyun nor the source of the smell, so he went upstairs.
Upon reaching the second floor, he followed the scent to the back kitchen, where he inexplicably opened a black wooden door.
Inside the kitchen, he did find something—a black shadow. Upon seeing him, it seemed startled and vanished in an instant, leaving behind only a large iron pot bubbling away on the stove.
Under the eerie circumstances of entering a canteen kitchen and witnessing a ghost cooking something in a giant pot, Lu Liangting had no choice but to investigate.
He approached the pot, with the beam of his flashlight revealing what was simmering inside.
He couldn’t tell what it was, but it looked like a thick, deep brown paste tinged with bl**d.
As his hand reached for the spoon resting on the pot, an icy sensation washed over him, and suddenly, the meaty aroma disappeared, replaced by an awful stench—like rotting corpses.
Just then, something heavy started coming up from downstairs, carrying with it a strong burnt smell.
Through the canteen’s window, he spotted a hefty old man in a bloody coat lumbering up. At first glance, he looked like a living person.
He locked eyes with this bloody-coated giant, and the ghost saw him too.
This ghost could even talk, and the way it communicated was surprisingly fluid, making the conversation feel unnervingly comfortable—its tone and speed were spot on.
But all it said was for him to open the door, warning him that outside there were several terrifying evil ghosts.
Lu Liangting didn’t open the door or engage in conversation. The ghost’s behavior clearly spiraled out of control, going from knocking to pounding the door violently.
Strangely, the ghost was right—downstairs were indeed three horrifying-looking evil ghosts, clearly from a different camp.
He witnessed ghost-on-ghost action, with one side completely demolishing the other.
After the three ghosts were dispatched, the bloody-coated giant’s pounding grew even more intense.
If Chen Yun hadn’t reinforced the wooden door with talismans, there’s no way it would have held.
But sadly, those talismans were about to expire.
Originally, Chen Yun’s talismans could dispatch the ghost on Li Nan’s back with a single strike, and yet, against this monstrous ghost outside, they wouldn’t last even half an hour.
“My life is over.” Lu Liangting held tight to a pen and a red hairpin.
These were his only two helpers, but when you consider these ghosts, he realized he didn’t stand a chance!
If he had any way out, that would be fine, but he was stuck in the back kitchen with nowhere to go except through that black wooden door behind him.
“I promised I would help you two fulfill your wishes. Sorry, I might break that promise.”
“This world outside is far scarier than either of us imagined. I’ll create an opportunity to get you out. Once you’re out, just run!”

Request for Leave
Today was spent driving for half the day, and the traffic was horrendous. I just had dinner and took a nap, but honestly, I’m not feeling so great, so no update today (whines).
I’ll catch up with today’s updates tomorrow and add the four more I promised. So, depending on how it goes, expect at least five or six updates tomorrow!
