### Chapter 61: What Are You Afraid Of?
Life’s ups and downs are probably like this.
Just a moment ago, Lu Liangting had resigned himself to dying, steeling his resolve as he opened the wooden door. The door creaked open, revealing the Red-clothed Evil Ghost that had been pounding on it, but… wait! There was another ghost outside, beating the poor Red-clothed Evil Ghost half to d*ath!
And the kicker? This new ghost wasn’t a stranger; Lu Liangting had seen her more than once!
Just a minute ago, he’d mentioned her to the two ghosts in his hands.
She was still wearing that familiar white dress, with skin so pale it practically glowed.
With the same haughty expression and stunning profile, she sported a bright red bow in her hair that was as vibrant as ever.
The only difference? She’d traded in her two low ponytails for a side ponytail.
It looked great, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that a ghost frequently changing hairstyles was a bit… odd.
Lu Liangting couldn’t help but wonder: Did she change her hairstyle herself?
This thought led him to picture Bai Yu sitting in front of a mirror, that same proud little expression on her face. She’d be gazing at herself, letting her hair down, and struggling with the red bow, deep in thought for ages before finally deciding that a side ponytail suited her best.
After tying her hair, she’d look into the mirror at her “brand new” self, her innocent yet proud little face breaking into a shy smile that was simply adorable. But then realization would hit, and she’d quickly squash that smile away, her pitch-black eyes flashing a hint of panic as she resumed her serious act, though her face remained adorably flushed.
‘Will this make me cuter?’
‘No way! Why am I even thinking about this? I don’t care what he thinks!’
Snapped back to reality by the sight of Bai Yu still staring at herself, Lu Liangting took half a step back.
Listening to the Red-clothed Old Ghost’s screeches and glancing at its pathetic state, he thought about how the previous scene compared to reality—it was quite different.
Lu Liangting had no idea what was going on in his head. Maybe it was aftereffects from being overly tense and then suddenly relaxed?
Right now, he shouldn’t be dwelling on that. Instead, he should be wondering why this ghost was here; wasn’t she supposed to haunt Sunshine Apartments?
If she wasn’t a ghost from there, why had she come out in the first place? And of all places, why here, to rescue him again?
Bai Yu hurled the Old Principal’s broken body away, knowing he wanted to phase through the wall. Just as he slammed into the wall, bl**d threads sealed the ground and the wall behind him entirely.
No phasing through walls today; the Old Principal crumpled to the ground.
His wounds writhed with bl**d threads, visibly healing. However, he was injured too gravely; complete recovery would take ages. In the meantime, Bai Yu could deal him a hundred deaths!
Her long blade vanished—it was made of bl**d threads, the same material as those in the Old Principal’s wounds.
Bai Yu didn’t know what these bl**d threads were called, but she knew they were a crucial part of a ghost, especially a powerful one.
Ordinary ghosts mostly came from obsessions, existing as black mist, while bl**d threads were the evolution of that mist.
“Ha, ha, heh heh,” chuckled the Old Principal, lying on the ground. “I knew you’d come back.”
Ghosts lack pain, or they mostly do—he didn’t feel much pain even after being beaten like this by Bai Yu.
The Old Principal looked to be over sixty. His condition resembled Bai Yu’s; he retained a somewhat human appearance—no terrifying visage here. Excluding his pale skin and solid black eyes, one might genuinely mistake him for a living person at first glance.
He had a large frame, indicating he exercised often, with a neat buzz cut. His face was lined with age but still showed hints of rugged handsomeness from his youth.
Except for that bl**d-stained robe creeping everyone out.
By Bai Yu’s studies, the color of a ghost’s clothing could reveal their general strength.
A ghost not dressed in red didn’t necessarily lack power, but a ghost in bloodstained clothes was definitely not weak.
Just like the legendary “Red-clothed Female Ghost,” those four words alone evoke feelings of intense grudges.
“Do you remember me?”
Shen Shuyun stepped forward, standing beside Bai Yu. Staring down at the Old Principal, her expression was neutral, though anyone could see she was suppressing her emotions.
“I can see your ugly soul, heh heh heh.” The Old Principal rolled his eyes, sporting a mocking grin.
“How does it feel to be tangled up with so many ghosts? I’m curious how you’ve survived, bringing along… hmm… a creature like her to find me. Why didn’t she slaughter you first? I really want to see the pain on your face as a living being turns into something like me.”
“Hey, little girl in the white dress! How about a trade? Help me turn your buddy over there into something like me, and I’ll show you a pleasure you’ve never known.”
“You died so young, tsk, tsk, such a pity. Never had a little romance, have you?”
“Don’t worry, we’re all ghosts. I can let you experience that.”
“After all, I was quite experienced in life and had helped many girls your age.”
“Want to know what their faces looked like? Initially, they’d show expressions of pain, tears in their eyes like adorable little creatures. But I knew not to be fooled by those expressions. You had to push harder!”
The Old Principal’s words weren’t direct, but everyone could figure out what he was hinting at.
Even Lu Liangting, standing aside, couldn’t help but glare, muttering something crude under his breath.
But Bai Yu just stood there, expressionless, not giving anything away. Once this mangled old fiend was done rambling, she calmly said, “Don’t waste my time.”
This was directed at Shen Shuyun.
As for the Old Principal, she could see right through him—he was scared and was intentionally provoking her to push her into killing him.
“Zhang Dazhang, if I were you, I definitely wouldn’t talk to her like that.” Shen Shuyun’s eyelids twitched; she didn’t want to be dragged down by this old creep’s d*ath wish.
“I never thought I’d see you again. Do you know I’ve regretted for years that I let you d*e so easily?”
“I should have flayed you, hung you in front of those vicious dogs of yours, let them see you eviscerated.”
“But I’m not here for that today.”
“You just need to answer one question: Have you ever regretted it?”
