Chapter 102: Opening a New Map in the Academy
“What’s wrong? Not used to it? Sister Bai, my broom, although not the latest model, has just been replaced for a while. Don’t you want to give it a try? Just like you said before, experience the speed and passion.” Sister Bai urged me as she watched me remain unmoved beside her.
“I… well, okay, then I won’t be polite!” Under Sister Bai’s repeated provocations, I accepted the proposal.
Although I had experienced the joy of flying outside during the assessment for my flying license, this would be my first time experiencing it without limits!
And this time, I would be bringing Sister Bai along, something I had never even dared to imagine before!
I hopped onto the broom, which activated the magic power within me. The amount of energy drawn was even more than what I needed during practice.
It seemed that while this broom was better than the old one, it also consumed quite a bit. Fortunately, I already had three Magic Sources, enough for me to fly with Sister Bai for a long time.
“Sister Bai, are you ready?” I asked as I turned back, after all, the person sitting behind wouldn’t enjoy the soft “air cushion” of riding, so I wondered if Sister Bai was comfortable.
“Um, ready.” Sister Bai was sitting sideways on the broom, but from the frequent adjustments to her sitting position, it was clear that she was indeed not comfortable.
“Then I’ll take off now~”
I controlled the broom to lift off, but since there was someone behind me, the sensation was quite unfamiliar, and I didn’t dare to fly too recklessly.
“Hehe, Sister Bai must not be feeling too good sitting back there, right?”
“Yeah, it’s indeed uncomfortable without a built-in cushion; my b*tt hurts. Why didn’t you tell me earlier, Xiao Han?”
“I always assumed it was like this before I learned.” I said helplessly, “Hold on tight, I’m about to accelerate~”
With a burst of speed, we instantly transformed into a dark shadow, swiftly passing by.
This caught the curiosity of the new students who had just enrolled. Although there were occasionally seniors flying above, it was the first time they had seen someone take off so close.
This made the new students all the more excited about the extraordinary world.
After all, flying was something everyone yearned for.
At this moment, I cast a Protection Spell on myself to block the strong airflow encountered while flying quickly, but unfortunately, I didn’t know how to cast it on others; otherwise, I would have liked to give Sister Bai one too.
“Xiao Han, I didn’t expect you to have a Protection Spell already; I was going to advise you to slow down.”
“Yeah, it was given to me by the store manager at the bakery; she helped me a bit.” I was enjoying the high-speed flight while also taking the time to answer Sister Bai’s question.
I had long wanted to experience such speed, and I didn’t expect it to happen now.
“Sister Bai~ Where should we go to play? Why don’t you point a direction for me?” I shouted loudly over the sound of the wind.
“Anywhere is fine; the current direction works well too.” Bai Yu smiled as if she was passing the question back to me.
“Okay then~ I’ll just land wherever it feels right. If there’s nothing fun, it’s Sister Bai’s fault.”
I looked down at the buildings below as I flew. The planning and construction within the academy were quite meticulous.
The most eye-catching was undoubtedly the central teaching area, which was the most advanced place, with classrooms, laboratories, libraries, etc. This area was also the most important part of the Witch Academy, the reason it was called an academy.
There probably wasn’t much fun to be had there, so I decided to steer clear of the formal learning environments and see if I could find any scenery I hadn’t seen around the outskirts.
After all, the Witch Academy was so large, and I hadn’t opened many maps. Coupled with my routine, I realized I didn’t really know the area divisions of the academy.
As I began to decelerate with Sister Bai, I could make out the lively scene below. There were street blocks bustling with seniors busy with their matters.
It was as if they were unaware that the school had started today.
“Xiao Han, how did you end up here? It’s not fun here.”
“I think so too; it’s all Sister Bai’s fault.”
“Yeah, yeah, it’s all my fault. Then let’s hurry and leave this place; there’s nothing fun here.” Bai Yu smiled as she took the blame and urged me to move on.
“But it looks quite lively here; I haven’t been before, and it’s just like exploring a new map. Let’s see what kind of things are sold here; maybe I will need something in the future?”
I didn’t accept Sister Bai’s suggestion. After all, any place in the academy that I hadn’t visited had its significance!
Especially in such a busy and retro street area, wandering around felt like unboxing a surprise; no one knew which store would sell something interesting.
Moreover, such places were generally akin to flea markets, with a wide variety of cheap goods, and maybe I could find something surprising.
“This…”
“Just come with me to browse, okay? Sister Bai~” I pleaded playfully.
“Alright… but you have to stick close to me and not run around, alright?” In the end, Bai Yu couldn’t resist my pout and agreed to my suggestion.
“Hehe~ I won’t run around.”
Walking through this street area, the feel I got was in stark contrast to the high-tech, advanced academy elsewhere.
Yet, it felt strangely intimate, with vendors by the roadside and makeshift stalls, where those selling quirky products occasionally called out.
“Sister Bai, everything here is so strange. What is this?” I curiously asked.
“Most of it consists of materials infused with extraordinary energy. Many of these items can’t be used effectively; they are specifically designed to inflate prices and deceive inexperienced newcomers. Even if bought, they can only be used as decorative pieces.”
“Really… Is it all like this?” My gaze was constantly scanning here, taking in fresh experiences.
Along the way, there were senior students trying to promote their goods, but Sister Bai managed to fend them off. Thank goodness Sister Bai was here; otherwise, I would have been fooled countless times.
Even though I received the male student enrollment subsidy from the academy, I couldn’t buy much here.
“Actually, those items do have other uses, but you might not need them at this stage. If you want to buy some small trinkets as keepsakes, you might want to check out the alchemical items made by the alchemists. The non-functional ones aren’t expensive; playing with them when you’re bored is also nice.”
Sister Bai led me to a small alchemy shop filled with various exquisite trinkets. I activated Spirit Vision and could see the extraordinary energy swirling within; they indeed looked like alchemical items.
“Hello, classmates! Is there anything you want? These are my practice products; buy one, get one free, just the cost of the materials, recovering my practice costs, hehe~” This senior smiled and welcomed us, speaking directly about it being practice products and recovering costs.
It seemed to be true.
With things like this, they shouldn’t be trying to deceive us, right?
