Chapter 11: The Standard Four-Piece Set for Witches
Although it was said I was coming to receive my school uniform, I only realized what exactly I was to receive once I arrived.
The first thing that caught my attention was the oversized witch hat with its tall pointed tip; when the wide brim was pulled down, it could cast a shadow over my entire body.
Looking at so many witch hats, they seemed to vary in size and even color, stacked one on top of the other, it appeared they could be chosen at will.
Next, a senior responsible for this area handed me a registration form, reminding me to fill it out and submit it to wait for the uniform distribution.
I observed the form in my hand along with a pen and quickly accepted this setup. The form was divided into four sections, meaning the school uniform included four components?
The first part left me dumbfounded; it wasn’t that I couldn’t understand, but I was suffering from choice paralysis.
The first thing I needed to choose was the magic wand.
There were options for the type of magic wand, including short wands, long wands, and custom wands.
There was also a blank notes section; if there were specific requirements for the wand, reasonable requests could be accommodated.
“What’s the matter? Are you having some difficulties?” Sister Bai asked with apparent concern as she approached me from behind.
“Um… I am having some trouble. Sister Bai, do you have any recommendations for magic wands?” I pointed to the first column of the form and asked.
“The magic wand will accompany you for a long time in your academy life, so it needs to be chosen carefully. I generally recommend a short wand because the long ones are too big, usually over a person’s height, making them inconvenient to carry, and without storage equipment, they’re hard to manage and can easily wear out,” Bai Yu provided her advice and briefly explained her reasoning.
Naturally, I could foresee the issues with a large wand; it would indeed be troublesome.
“What about the custom wand?”
“This is for those who want to dual practice with weapons. This kind of wand, while called a wand, is actually more like a cold weapon. It has been imbued with the properties of a wand using alchemical methods. Swords and polearms can also be customized; so, do you want a sword or another weapon?” Sister Bai asked with a smile, then whispered in my ear, “I know boys like to wield swords and play around; choosing this option is also fine.”
“Ahem…” Sister Bai’s words did make me a bit tempted since it certainly sounded cool!
But I only wanted to play around; I was a complete novice in cold weapons, having only taught myself a few flashy moves and sword flourishes. If I were to choose this, I really wouldn’t know how to handle it.
“Forget it, I’ll stick to something more practical, just go with the short wand you recommended, Sister Bai~”
“Alright, by the way, you also need to write in that notes section. If you don’t put any notes, the wand will just be the most basic type. Since you have the opportunity to jot down notes, you definitely want to make the most of it.”
“Got it! Making the most of it!” I excitedly echoed, after all, who doesn’t like making the most of things?
“First, the wand core requires high-quality magic-conductive materials (note: quality can be reduced, but the material must be magic-conductive). The wand body should be carved from a solid piece of secret silver layered wood (note: other materials can be used instead, but they must be carved as a whole without any splicing issues)…”
“Slow… down… Sister Bai…” I hurriedly recorded everything she said. Sister Bai seemed very knowledgeable about this area; once she started, she couldn’t stop.
“Sorry, I got a bit excited. Next is the wand core; your mental power is affinity-based, so let’s go with a non-attribute crystal for embedding. Finally, the wand body still needs to undergo a coupling embedding process for the final metallic thread embedding, and the metallic thread needs to be made from…”
After filling the notes section to the brim, I finally stopped, even exceeding a bit.
I couldn’t help but glance at the note stating “reasonable requests can be accommodated.” Is this actually reasonable?
I looked slightly confused at Sister Bai, “Um, Sister Bai, with so many requirements, will the academy really follow these?”
“Putting forward your requirements is your right; as long as you write them down, if they don’t meet your requirements, you end up with the same wand as others. But if they agree to your requests, then you’ve won, haven’t you?” Bai Yu replied with a smile, after all, she was quite the seasoned veteran in the academy, an expert in making the most out of the situation.
“That’s true.” I nodded heavily, agreeing with that perspective.
“And my requirements are all interconnected; as long as part of them is accepted, your wand won’t be bad. After all, when making a wand, overall balance needs to be considered. If there’s too much disparity in the quality of the main materials, it’s likely to fail. Don’t worry.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to Sister Bai!”
“Now, the witch hat and witch cloak are actually quite similar; there aren’t many specific requirements you can propose, just some basic body measurements will do.” Bai Yu said while taking out a soft measuring tape from the side and walking toward me. “Let me measure you~”
Watching Sister Bai, I felt she seemed a bit different from before, but at this level, I wasn’t afraid and greeted her cheerfully with my arms outstretched.
“Go ahead and measure~”
After being measured by the senior, I had a general understanding of my current body measurements, although they weren’t very ideal.
“It’s fine; for boys, the changes in body shape during the witch transformation process can be greater than for girls. It’s nothing now, but later on, that could change. If you feel the witch hat or cloak isn’t fitting later, you can come here to modify the size.”
Sister Bai whispered near my ear, offering reassurance.
“Mm.”
I continued to look at the form in my hand; the magic wand, witch hat, and witch cloak were all decided, and the last one… was the badge, or was it the school emblem?
In any case, it was a badge to be worn on the chest, with various styles available for selection. “Sister Bai, what’s the purpose of the badge, and how do I choose it?”
“The badge will solidify a spell, serving as an initial spell provided to new students. As long as you learn how to use it, it can guide magic power into it, allowing you to cast spells at near instantaneous speed. But don’t expect the damage of this spell to be very high.”
“As for how to choose, you can select the style of the badge according to your preference, and the solidified spell can also be chosen based on what you like. After all, you have affinity mental power; it’s pretty much the same no matter which you choose.”
“Well… okay.”
Indeed, for someone like me with affinity mental power, any choice was basically the same, leaving me with no real options. I casually ticked one of the styles while the solidified spells were simple enough.
There were Fireball Spell, Raging Tide Spell, Wind Pressure Spell, and Earth Spike Spell.
Only four spells seemed to represent typical attacks from a game.
Then I’ll go with the most basic Fireball Spell since, among the four elements, the fire element looked like it had the highest attack power, so naturally, I chose the one with the highest damage!
