Chapter 119: Joining Means Enjoying Course Exemptions
“What a coincidence~ I was just thinking about where to find you, and didn’t expect to run into you here.”
Just as I continued to research the information on Earth Vein accumulation, I noticed a figure walking towards me.
It was Ji Niang, my advisor.
I can’t believe there are that many coincidences in the world; the last time was also a coincidence. Is this time the same? I’m not such a gullible child; if I don’t recognize something abnormal about this, then there’s something wrong with me.
“Hello, Teacher.”
However, I still politely greeted her, unsure of why she was here looking for me since Sister Bai wasn’t by my side.
But this is the library; she shouldn’t do anything too out of line… probably.
“Xiao Han, I’m increasingly fond of you! What are you doing in the library? Stealing a head start on your studies?” Ji Niang approached me despite my cautious demeanor, and although she was a teacher, there was no authoritative air that typically comes from teachers.
She glanced at the materials in my hand, revealing a hint of surprise.
“Earth Vein accumulation… Oh, you managed to get this information? Let me guess, it was Tan Han who gave it to you? After all, I can’t think of anyone else who would have had the opportunity to get it beforehand besides Tan Han.”
“Indeed.” I nodded quickly, but I hadn’t expected this information to be so valuable.
But since it’s an annual event, I should be able to find out with a little inquiry, right?
But information is information; without awareness of its existence, no amount of inquiry would yield such detailed and targeted materials.
“No wonder, I just saw Tan Han leave the library by herself, so it was to meet you here. But I sensed that Tan Han wasn’t in a good mood at that moment. Did you upset her?”
“Sort of…”
“Then you might be in trouble. Well, let’s not talk about that. I came to find you to discuss something important. Want to hear it?” At this point, Ji Niang wasn’t holding back and was straightforward that she came to find me.
“Uh… Can I not hear it?” I asked tentatively.
“No way, Xiao Han, how can you say that? I am your advisor, and you are my only class leader. If you won’t listen, who will I tell?” Ji Niang casually pulled out a chair and sat next to me, her tone suggesting she had me cornered.
“Since it’s like that, why are you even asking for my opinion, Teacher…” I muttered under my breath.
“Of course, this depends on how you accept what I say, so I can make a basic judgment. Now, let’s get to it.”
“Mm, please go ahead, Teacher.” I supported my forehead with one hand, surprised that Ji Niang had such a personality—well, I guess this was my bad luck.
“I would like to invite you to join my research group.”
“Hmm?”
I suddenly looked up, meeting Ji Niang’s half-smiling, half-serious expression, and for a moment, I couldn’t grasp what she meant.
My confused expression seemed to ask if she had made a mistake; I was just a new student who hadn’t attended a single class, and now a teacher was inviting me to join her research group.
Research what?
Research me?
“Are you surprised? No, no, don’t underestimate yourself. You have the ability. Of course, it’s not about researching you; okay, to be honest, at least it’s not the kind of research that treats you as experimental material.” Ji Niang explained candidly, but the way she said it made me even more alarmed.
In the end, is it still about researching me?
“Stop looking at me like that. Think about your own qualities. I’m inviting you, which means you have the value to be invited by me. If you agree, I can offer you treatment similar to Tan Han’s—some courses can be exempted. How about it?”
“Eh? Exemptions?”
I was shocked, of course, shocked by how terrifying Tan Han was! Partial course exemptions? I wouldn’t be jealous of her; with her abilities, self-study is definitely more efficient than attending classes.
So I wouldn’t have any objections about exemptions, but if I were exempted, I would directly miss out on that part of knowledge! I’m not a terrifying academic genius like Tan Han, who learns quickly.
“I see some of your concerns. I thought you might find the courses quite boring since the first semester’s curriculum at the Extraordinary Academy covers basic content. Most importantly, you’ve already mastered the Witch Meditation Method yourself. Personally, I think you qualify for exemptions.”
“And… after you join my group, you won’t be unable to learn from me, right? During that time, you can learn much more and deeper things than what is taught in class.”
“Um…” After hearing Ji Niang’s explanation, I really hesitated. My instincts told me to agree; after all, this opportunity is exceptionally rare! But I know my foundation is shallow, and I even lack understanding of the common knowledge of the extraordinary. If I jumped too high all at once, it might not be good for me.
“In the world of the extraordinary, talent outweighs effort. What are you worried about? You have the corresponding talent, so you fundamentally have enough to stand at a height. Don’t you want to surpass Tan Han?”
At this moment, Ji Niang crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair, speaking leisurely.
“Eh? Surpass… Tan Han?”
I was startled by this goal; after all, Tan Han had already surpassed the new student level and had become an insurmountable mountain for freshmen.
“Isn’t your heart yearning for it? What are you afraid of? Afraid that her Magic Source is more abundant than yours? Or that her spells outnumber yours? Isn’t it true that these things are just given when provided? In essence, you’re still on the same line. While everyone is optimistic about Tan Han, only I am optimistic about you, Xiao Han. What do you think?”
As she spoke these words, Ji Niang’s tone grew increasingly passionate; perhaps she hadn’t even realized it herself.
“I… think…”
“Hesitation is not a quality a strong person should possess. If I were to ask Tan Han, she would agree without hesitation, even if she knows nothing and doesn’t have your talent. She would still stubbornly seek me out. Of course, I’m not comparing Tan Han to you with this statement; I’m just telling you not to hesitate.”
“Okay… I agree.”
I nodded, but I also absorbed Ji Niang’s words and thought even more. She advised me not to hesitate, and after her encouragement, I immediately agreed. Is it proper to blindly comply just because someone else stirred up my emotions about the unknown?
I don’t think that’s right; I just couldn’t find a reason to refuse her, and agreeing felt more like a compromise.
Or perhaps I’ve come to a realization.
I want to establish a deep connection with Ji Niang. After all, exploring the extraordinary world alone is just a waste of life.
“Clear choice!” Ji Niang stood up and clapped her hands, clearly showing her excitement.
But I didn’t know what she was excited about. Ji Niang couldn’t possibly have come to me for no reason; either she valued my unknown Extraordinary Knowledge.
Or she valued my Floating World-level Spirit Vision.
Now I know what the Floating World-level Spirit Vision represents. To describe it in terms from popular science books, even among extraordinary witches with Spirit Vision, most only reach the third level of “Unknowable.”
So with my fifth-level Spirit Vision, there must be some wonderful uses I’m not even aware of.
