Chapter 13: Student Card in Hand
Soon, my Senior draped the Witch Cloak over my shoulders and fastened the badge to my chest.
“This badge has the best solidification enchantment; it should be the most stable among these, meaning it’s unlikely to break after just a few uses,” Bai Yu explained while adjusting my things.
“Ah? The badge can break?” I quickly grasped the main point.
“Yeah, the magic power controlled by witches is a high-energy form of energy. Even the most basic spells, when powered by magic, can cause irreparable wear and tear. This solidification spell is designed for new students in the early stages, but as time goes on, it becomes more of a decorative item,” she said.
“I see…”
I held onto the edge of the Witch Hat and followed Sister Bai out of the room. As we passed a mirror, I put on the broad Witch Hat; it instantly enhanced the witchy aura about me.
“Do I look good?”
I instinctively glanced at Sister Bai and blurted out. After saying it, I was somewhat incredulous.
Why did I ask that? I shouldn’t care about my appearance, especially since I wasn’t dressed in women’s clothing—just a cloak, after all.
Could this be the so-called Witch Transformation, or is it just my nature?
But this question held no meaning, and after briefly processing this thought, I calmly accepted that I was beginning to care about my attire.
After all, I was still planning to wear a dress, so what’s the harm?
“You look good, and it would be even better with a matching outfit,” Bai Yu smiled as she looked at me wearing the Witch Hat.
“Where are we going next?”
I happily jogged a few steps ahead of Sister Bai, then turned around to ask. With Bai Yu as my guide, I hadn’t even looked at the enrollment process in detail; I was relying entirely on her.
“We should have one last task.”
Bai Yu recalled with a thoughtful expression.
“Last task already? What is it?” I asked, a hint of eagerness in my tone.
“To collect the corresponding student card for each student. That’s very important.”
“Then let’s go! Time waits for no one,” I said, glancing at my phone. I now had two phones, one for the academy and another my own, both showing the same time. However, my phone had no signal, which confirmed what Sister Bai said about the academy being in another space; my phone was indeed obsolete here.
I felt a bit reluctant.
Before long, my Senior led me to the place where student cards were issued. It resembled a teaching building, and although there were temporary signs posted outside, it would be somewhat difficult to find without someone helping—at least a few laps would be necessary.
“Are you here for a new student card? Come over here.”
As soon as I entered, the senior inside spoke directly, seeming very experienced in handling the procedures. I hadn’t even opened my mouth, yet I still greeted her politely.
“Okay, tell me your name, and I’ll look up your information,” the senior said in a slightly lazy tone as she operated the somewhat complicated equipment in front of her.
“My name is Yang Yuelan,” I replied courteously.
“Yang Yuelan… Hmm… not found, only one male, who was in the last batch of temporary admissions.” The senior glanced at the screen, then looked up at me.
“If I’m not mistaken, that male would be me,” I reminded her with a smile.
“Mm?”
The senior, triggered by my words, straightened up and stared at me, her expression changing from confusion to a notably meaningful smile.
“Oh→ oh↗ oh↘ I get it, junior—oh no, junior brother, you have a bright future! Welcome to becoming a prospective witch,” she said with a smile, “You’re the first male to register student card information so calmly in front of me, at least the first I’ve encountered.”
What else could I say? I could only maintain my smile.
“Yang Yuelan, right? You can’t lie about that! Do you still want to keep this name?”
“Yes, I want to keep it,” I nodded. This was my name from my previous life, and while it wasn’t a coincidence this lifetime, I also had a name change—my previous name was something I could barely remember.
“What about the photo? Do you want to keep the look you had as a boy for posterity or take a new one?”
“Well… let’s take a new one; I want to say goodbye to the past,” I said sincerely.
“Alright, follow me~” The senior got up, and behind her was a rather simple-looking photo booth.
After a while of fussing about, I finally received my student card.
I said a warm goodbye to the senior.
“All done?”
Bai Yu, waiting outside, immediately followed when she saw me come out.
“Yes, I’m all done,” I waved the card in my hand as a response.
The student card contained very simple information. The left side had my photo, which was just taken, showing me in formal witch attire.
The large brim of the hat was partially cut off in the photo, but I was quite satisfied. The senior had taken several versions before I chose this one.
On the right side were my name, academy, and student number.
Naturally, the academy was Witch Academy, and my student number was “41145134015.” Just a quick look revealed that the numbers 1145 indicated this year.
This timeline is set from the year the first academy was founded, which is the year the Wizard Academy was established.
Although the history I was learning was somewhat blurry regarding this time period, it was clear that the establishment of the academies was a profoundly influential turning point for this world.
As for the initial “4,” it probably… relates to the fact that Witch Academy was the fourth extraordinary academy established in this world. This suggests that, despite the negative opinions, the position of Witch Academy is comparable to that of the other three major academies.
The student card felt quite wooden to the touch, with almost visible blue energy flowing across it, resembling the cracks of a tree.
I attempted to view the student card using Spirit Vision; there were indeed surges of extraordinary energy flowing through it, as if boundless energy was leaking from the card, then inexplicably dissipating or decomposing into ordinary energy. However, I didn’t feel any light or heat when holding the card, and there were many energies flowing into it, as if it were maintaining some kind of “balance” between influx and outflux.
As expected of Witch Academy, even a student card is so magical!
“Sister Bai~ you mentioned that the student card is very important. What is it used for?” I asked, pinching the student card and leaning closer to Bai Yu.
Throughout the registration period, I had been asking her so many questions out of curiosity that I felt a bit embarrassed, yet Bai Yu answered diligently without irritation.
