Chapter 135: Characteristics and Bugs of the Spellbook
After giving Yu Yatian a simple tour of the laboratory where I’ve been staying, I began to tend to my own tasks.
There isn’t much worth seeing here, and it was only recently that I had cleaned up this space.
The only notable item is the damaged spellbook from yesterday, which has now been processed and its internal structure laid bare.
The space spell that Teacher Ji solidified yesterday is still being maintained, and I have also obtained partial control permissions for this spell.
After all, I need to conduct experiments here, and it makes it easier to handle the released spells and gives me enough time to observe the state after the spell is released for future magical modifications.
Today, I planned to continue with the magical modification of the Fireball Spell, avoiding some structures that I should not touch; it’s actually not very dangerous.
After all, there are only a few dangerous structures—primarily issues related to energy supply and restrictions.
“Um… may I ask what you are doing?” After wandering carefully around, Yu Yatian started to feel bored. To be honest, there’s not much fun to be had here.
At that moment, I was flipping through yesterday’s experimental records, and several Earth Vein operation screens floated around me, giving off a sci-fi experience that naturally attracted Yu Yatian’s attention; after all, she’s just a newly adult teenager.
Even as a cultivator who believes in the Holy Light, she still enjoys things that are appropriate for her age.
“Experiment, trying out new possibilities. Sorry, I’ve somewhat neglected you, but there really isn’t much fun here,” I said apologetically.
“No, how can you say that?” Yu Yatian’s eyes were glued to those holographic projection-like screens; these visuals, still present in sci-fi movies, intrigued her!
“Are you talking about this Earth Vein Operating System?”
“This holographic projection is called Earth Vein Operating System?”
“Pretty much. It’s like a computer, though you can’t use it to play games; at least, I don’t know where you can download games for it.” I shook my head.
However, it was clear that Yu Yatian wasn’t concerned that this fancy device couldn’t be used for games; she was simply interested in its existence!
Under her intense gaze, I created a temporary blank screen for her to follow along.
I suddenly thought that Yu Yatian is a person who is easily satisfied; she had previously put pressure on me just by chatting, but now, she seemed like a child enjoying this screen.
But I didn’t need to feel this way because I had already played around with it, and the novelty had worn off.
Plus, being the class leader, I knew more than they did, so I had to maintain a senior’s calm demeanor.
I had also experienced firsthand how the various data projections could give me a headache, and even now, it was the same.
Magically modifying a spellbook wasn’t just about random alterations; it requires a series of steps, including preset simulations, structural changes, and reasonable designs. Otherwise, trying to modify everything at once would definitely take more time than I had.
Only once the final result of the magical modification is confirmed can it be implemented; otherwise, the spellbook wouldn’t be able to handle my tinkering.
I walked over to the place where the solidified space spell was located, skillfully connecting to the energy supply and activating this temporary solidified spell.
Having just completed the last step, I now needed to test the hypothetical cases I hadn’t finished last night.
With that thought in mind, I began to dismantle the spellbook’s outer shell using my mental power, making internal ritual adjustments. If this plan succeeded, the Fireball Spell might end up being completely broken!
As magic power flowed in, the spellbook became activated, and the magic transformed into fire elements… the ritual array for the Fireball Spell began to outline, but the patterns on this ritual array had many small differences from the original patterns.
This was my first attempt at multi-zone ritual magical modification. My previous attempts had only made small modifications to see what kind of situation would arise, but now I was changing several places at once.
What form would this final Fireball Spell take? Would it retain various magical modification effects to produce more complex and diverse results, or would internal conflicts cause the Fireball Spell to collapse?
In fact, I leaned toward both possibilities; after all, it was somewhat like running code—making too many changes at once might not introduce many new functions but could lead to bugs or even a direct crash.
However, it wasn’t until two fireballs appeared in front of me that I realized I had actually succeeded.
Double Fireball Spell, size reduced, fire elements condensed, spinning—four characteristics seemed to have been retained, and there were currently no obvious conflicts.
This was both a success and a failure; after all, having no issues at all could be the biggest problem. Why not try two features that might conflict to see what happens?
After all, having conflicts would help discover the so-called bottom line, defining the range of effects while clarifying what can be done and what cannot.
But such risks were significant.
I pushed the two fireballs into the solidified spell, then opened the records to collect subsequent information.
For example, whether the two fireballs would interfere with each other during their spins, the limit of the fire element’s condensing time, and how much of an impact the explosion of the shrunk fireball would have.
Then I would compare this information with the previously gathered data from solitary experiments to see if there were any discrepancies, and analyze why such differences occurred.
Regardless of whether I could resolve the questions raised, having questions is a good thing. I could just ask Teacher Ji later; if she didn’t know, she would look it up. There would always be answers.
I felt very confident in the information from the Witch World; if these questions couldn’t be answered… then that would be serious!
It would mean that there wasn’t any research on this topic within the Witch World—a deserted area that had gone unnoticed!
I felt that Teacher Ji would immediately start writing a paper to fill in that gap.
“Did you just use magic?” Yu Yatian stood aside, not daring to get too close; after all, the instant heat generated from the energy conversion when the Fireball Spell was released made her instinctively feel it was dangerous.
She is just an ordinary person, afraid of d*ath and injury.
“Pretty much, but we usually call them spells, and I’m using a spellbook, which is a very convenient thing.”
“Spell… spellbook?”
It was obvious that Yu Yatian wasn’t quite familiar with these terms, as her face showed a confused expression.
“These will be explained in future classes, so not knowing about them now is fine,” I reassured her since I didn’t want to explain too much right now.
I still had many things to do, and if I got interrupted while discussing unrelated topics, I would be quite troubled.
Plus, I also checked the class schedule, which included a course on Spell Structure Theory. I doubted they would talk about spell structure without mentioning spellbooks.
Moreover, before entering the Extraordinary Academy, we already studied courses like Spell Theory and Element Theory, though those mostly contained basic content. Still, they formed the foundation for understanding spells.
Only by truly interacting with spells can one realize how superficial the previous Spell Theory course was, resembling an explanation of mathematics, physics, and chemistry under the guise of Spell Theory.
But that’s not wrong; these subjects are also means of understanding the world. Those who lack my unusual Spirit Vision talent can only rely on these methods to comprehend supernatural laws.
Even in a world filled with the supernatural and magic, science still exists. It’s a way of understanding the world, a method of summarizing the laws of the world. It’s impossible to say that with magic, science ceases to exist; it just continues to accompany everyone in a different form.
Otherwise, those who rigorously study supernatural truths with a scientific attitude would only be making a joke of their efforts, wouldn’t they?
Today, I didn’t see Teacher Ji; without her around, my attempts became bolder. After all, having no one watching creates two different mindsets.
Since I brought Yu Yatian here this time, she hasn’t come back.
She has also blended into the atmosphere of Class 14.
But due to her unique nature as a cultivator and the way she speaks, she finds it hard to connect with her classmates.
Although this world advocates for freedom of belief, the inherent uniqueness of the Holy Angel sect tends to draw attention.
Most people adopt a nonchalant attitude, though there are certainly some who look down on her.
During these days, I have conducted several studies, and I even extended my magical influence to another spell of mine.
That protection spell—Energy Shield.
Even so, I still take care of my classmates in the group occasionally.
While I can’t attend classes with them, I can still offer recommendations in the chat.
Moreover, that big-mouthed Hong Chanyi has spread the news of my successful mastery of the Witch Meditation Method, and recently, the class has introduced a meditation course. However, the vast majority cannot grasp the nuances of meditation.
So, daily strange behaviors appear in the chat; whenever I show up, there will be a flood of odd +1 responses.
It seems they think that by associating with the academic prowess of the class leader, they can sail through their courses without worry.
Plus, I’ve inadvertently showcased some skills, like flying and meditation, and the classroom seems to have tacitly accepted my status as class leader. It feels as if my position has elevated beyond that of the other members, making it unattainable for them.
I clearly wanted to take a friendly approach! How does it feel like I’m being deified by my classmates?
In the eyes of ordinary new students, I truly am an unattainable goal; having enjoyed course exemptions shortly after the semester started, while they have barely attended a few classes and can’t cast any spells, the class leader already knows many spells.
They can’t even comprehend the concept of a Magic Source, and here I am with dozens of them.
While they are burdened with taking notes in class, the class leader has already started doing research in her own laboratory.
If it weren’t for my timely clarifications, these statements might have spiraled into far-fetched tales.
Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without Hong Chanyi fanning the flames.
Now, after the start of the semester, it seems that everything has entered a proper routine. However, one thing is looming closer—the new student class leader competition!
With so much time passed, the candidates for the class leader position in our class have mostly been determined. It reflects a kind of reasonable competition.
Moreover, it allows many new students to witness the differences between peers.
It also gives them a glimpse of the wonders of the extraordinary world, setting goals for them, as peers are people who are graspable and can be caught up with sufficient effort.
Additionally, it serves as a great platform for showcasing oneself—a stage to prove one’s worth!
