Chapter 16: Part-time Intentions
The academy has many cafeterias, the most common being those that offer dining-in set meals, served on a plate. Some cafeterias sell specialty dishes, while others have private rooms for group dining, and some focus on a high-end ambiance.
After my repeated requests, Bai Yu finally agreed to dine in the hall on the first floor; otherwise, I would have had to watch Sister Bai take me into one of those rooms with dubious lighting for a meal.
However, the fast food options here are plentiful, encompassing most of the cuisines in this world, but unfortunately, they don’t include the dishes I used to enjoy in my previous life.
Trying these, however, has its own charm. Since this meal is treated by Sister Bai, I naturally won’t hold back; after all, the price of fast food is affordable, and filling the plate doesn’t cost as much as an appetizer in a high-end restaurant.
“Xiao Han likes these dishes, huh?” After sitting down at a nearby table with me, Bai Yu started commenting on the food on my plate.
“Yeah, they all look good, but I’ve never tried them before, so I want to give them a shot,” I replied honestly, as such dishes were never available at home.
The meals at home were more of the energy needed to survive rather than proper meals. My parents could enjoy work meals at their jobs, but I could only make something to eat at home, and we barely had any seasonings, making it difficult to cook anything tasty.
I discovered that the cafeteria food was actually pretty good only after I started school, but it was still just decent.
I didn’t expect the cafeteria at the Witch Academy to taste this good; I was becoming increasingly curious about the other dishes.
Of course, being broke was the main reason I could only enjoy a good meal today.
“If you like it, eat a bit more! But unfortunately, the fast food here is quite mainstream. I had originally wanted to treat you…”
“Alright! Sister Bai’s good intentions are understood, but why waste money? The most important thing when eating is to be happy,” I interrupted Sister Bai quickly. After all, what use is bringing it up again? Just because a meal costs more doesn’t mean it has a sincere intention. If this became the norm, it would make this world quite sad.
“True! Then let’s change the subject,” she said.
“Sure… umm… what should we talk about… um…” I stuffed my mouth with food, making my words somewhat unclear.
But Bai Yu didn’t mind; she watched me eat with enthusiasm and urged me to slow down.
“Let’s discuss what the next period will look like since there’s still quite a bit of time before the official school year starts,” Bai Yu said, looking at me, but she didn’t continue, instead leaving the next choice to me. She wanted to know if I had any plans.
“That’s true,” I nodded in agreement since this holiday had just started and indeed had plenty of time. “How about I find a part-time job during this time? Do you have any recommendations, Sister Bai?”
“You want me to recommend something?” Bai Yu didn’t expect the question to fall back on her.
“Yeah, after all, you’re a senior and must be familiar with the Witch Academy, right? You probably know which part-time jobs pay the best better than I do.” I completely trust Sister Bai.
“That’s hard to say, but the most profitable part-time job at the academy is definitely the Street of Elegance,” Bai Yu said, a hint of shyness creeping into her tone as she mentioned it.
“The Street of Elegance? Should I go try it out someday?” I noticed something seemed off with Sister Bai’s expression, but perhaps it was the name itself that felt a bit odd? It gave off an impression of something inappropriate.
But this is an academy; even though it’s a Witch Academy, it should be an educational place, right? There shouldn’t be anything like that.
“Don’t!”
Bai Yu immediately spoke up to stop me sternly, surprised that I would actually take her joke seriously. If I were truly curious and went there, it wouldn’t be good. Moreover, it’s not actually called the Street of Elegance on the map; that’s just a nickname.
“I was joking! Xiao Han can’t go there; it’s a place that degrades itself.”
“Uh….” Hearing her reaction and explanation made me wonder if there really was such a place at the Witch Academy.
I should definitely take note of this!
Street of Elegance~
“Okay, I’m a good kid and won’t go there,” but I still needed to verbally reassure her.
“Best not go there. There are many other part-time job opportunities at the academy. If you really have trouble finding one, come to me; I can help you,” Bai Yu said, relieved after hearing my promise, and then continued.
“This little thing doesn’t need to trouble you, Sister Bai. Of course, if it really comes to it, I’d appreciate if you could help me out then.”
I shamelessly left myself a bit of an escape route at the end because this is the academy; it’s different from where I used to live, and living in an unknown environment still requires being cautious with my words.
“That’s only natural; I’m your Sister Bai! If you run into any difficulties, just come find me. By the way, Xiao Han, let’s add each other as friends. I don’t have your new phone contact yet, which will make it convenient for us to communicate later.”
“Sure.”
I directly handed over my phone; I hadn’t yet gotten used to operating this new phone, so I let Sister Bai add me herself.
“Are you not afraid I’ll see your private info if you just hand it over like this?” Bai Yu joked as she smiled at me.
“With a new phone, there’s nothing on it. What’s there to be afraid of?”
“That’s true.”
Bai Yu also laughed, covering up her own embarrassment.
Once she added the contact information, she opened the data info again. Since the phone doesn’t have a student card to update the data, the information remained from the last time she checked, but she still wanted to confirm once more.
Bai Yu stared blankly at the hidden information behind Spirit Vision, “Floating World.” Is this really the level of Spirit Vision that a newcomer without experience in the extraordinary realm should have?
“Sister Bai, what’s wrong? Is there something interesting on my phone?”
Seeing Sister Bai staring at my phone, I didn’t think much and directly asked.
“Nothing, nothing, I added you already. You can contact me directly in Friends later,” she smiled and returned my phone, reminding me again, “You must protect your personal information. Even though I help you block some things, it’s still possible for those with bad intentions to infer something. It’s best to develop the habit of checking your data alone and remember to clear the cache afterward.”
“I got it.”
I happily replied and continued eating; for now, it was best to fill my stomach.
Before long, this meal ended amidst simple conversations. I patted my belly, surprised to eat so much at once; if it’s like this in the future, I will need to watch my figure!
