Chapter 18: Choosing a Bedroom
Seeing my refusal, the little robot that called itself an Intelligent Butler took the hint and busied itself with its own tasks.
As I entered, it felt as if the place had come alive, the entire house seemingly awakened.
In other words, it was as if the main power switch of the whole house had been turned on.
Of course, it might not just be a power issue; the design of this house was exquisite, with patterns on the walls that seamlessly blended decorative and functional elements. If I hadn’t used Spirit Vision, I would have never realized that the glowing patterns were not just decorative light strips.
Instead, they were flowing with Magic Power, or at least some kind of Extraordinary Power.
The flow of energy activated many pieces of standby furniture inside, creating an illusion that the entire house had awakened.
“Isn’t it wonderful? Many things in the Academy are powered by Magic. As long as you store your excess magic here, everything will remain activated. It seems the previous batch of seniors left quite a bit of magic for you.”
At this moment, Bai Yu came to my side and, noticing my astonishment as I stood here motionless, began to explain.
“So does that mean we don’t have to pay for electricity or anything?”
I instinctively asked, since having a house of this scale would mean utilities would be a considerable expense. Not having to pay for electricity would be fantastic!
Although I’d need to continuously inject magic in the future, I hoped I wouldn’t become a human mobile battery.
“Pretty much. After all, everything here is powered by magic. Once you master controlling magic, you can conveniently operate all the magic-powered appliances here remotely, like this.”
With my curious gaze on her, Bai Yu snapped her fingers, and the hidden air conditioner in the living room was turned on, along with a huge screen hanging on the wall of the living room lighting up.
Was that a television?
By the way, does anyone still watch TV nowadays?
In my past life, I had already stopped watching TV; it had become just a decoration gathering dust without even being plugged in. But in this life, my parents seemed to really enjoy watching TV, and they seldom let me watch.
I didn’t care much about it anyway, as I never really watched that often.
Did I not grasp my parents’ disdain for me back then?
Or did they simply not want me to watch TV?
On the other hand, my younger brother often watched TV, and what struck me the most was that they even paid for premium movie channels, but of course, only for him to watch kids’ programs.
I was shocked back then and found myself speechless; when did watching TV also have VIP paid channels?
However, seeing a television here again made me somewhat curious. I wondered if there would be signals and what channels would be available?
Surely there would be news channels, but unfortunately, I wasn’t really invested in many things in this world. Maybe it was because I didn’t feel a sense of belonging.
Watching the serene yet mundane news devoid of international conflict was truly boring.
“…Our channel reports: The heads of the three top academies respond to the Witch Academy’s violent recruitment behavior, expressing extreme anger towards this incident. The Wizard Academy states this behavior is… Additionally, we interviewed Ms. Gong from the admissions office of Aphhemia Academy, who expressed a serious protest against this malicious behavior…”
The television was playing the news at that time, and the content genuinely surprised me.
No, it should be said that I wasn’t surprised at all now.
However, Sister Bai directly turned off the television. “More pointless news. At this time, all we see is this kind of content. Why doesn’t a reporter interview the Witch Academy?”
Interviewing the Witch Academy…
That would likely offend the three major academies; weren’t they afraid of retaliation?
Moreover, I felt that if there were an interview, every word from that senior would probably be delivered with a smile and generate resentment. However, thinking about it like this, I really began to look forward to it!
Who doesn’t enjoy watching others tear each other apart?
It would be best if they actually got into a fight!
I want to see bl**d flowing like rivers!
Of course, I hope the flames of war don’t reach me, and I admit that I was just talking big earlier, without really advocating for war.
Compared to that useless television, I was far more interested in Sister Bai’s methods; it was simply a paradise for lazy people!
Just when I was about to ask how to master my magic, Sister Bai stepped forward to my side.
After all, this was just an academy dormitory, and a shared one at that, so we would need to choose our beds.
Here, it was about choosing bedrooms.
“Let’s go upstairs to check the bedrooms and pick one that you like,” Sister Bai said, pulling my hand as she prepared to go upstairs.
“After all, we still need to put away our luggage and check what supplies we’re missing, which you’ll need to purchase yourself.”
“Oh.”
I obediently followed Sister Bai upstairs, not continuing with what I had just thought. Though I wasn’t sure what luggage I had, it couldn’t be much.
But it was still in Sister Bai’s storage space.
What was there to put away?
As for supplies, I was too lazy to buy anything non-essential (I didn’t have money anyway), but picking a bedroom was indeed important.
Since I seemed to be the first one here, I wouldn’t be too considerate towards my unseen roommates.
After all, who knows if we will get along well? Even though I hope we do, I wouldn’t force it.
We were all randomly assigned by the academy; at most, they might have a little more money than me, and if we lived together and there were issues, I wouldn’t indulge them.
If you feel superior, you could have spent money to live better; why live with us…
After thinking for a while, I suddenly realized that I hadn’t met my roommates yet and was already imagining what a malicious roommate scenario would be?
Never mind that; it was so unlucky!
I should hope that my roommates are all pretty and easygoing girls.
After all, I am also easy to get along with; as for being pretty… I will work harder on that!
After all, I just started being a girl.
“Xiao Han, do you have any requirements for the bedrooms? Lighting, position, ventilation, or something else?”
“I’m not too picky.”
I said modestly, even though I had been thinking I wouldn’t be polite earlier. When it came time to actually choose, I didn’t have many requirements.
Even a dark, corner room wouldn’t bother me, as anywhere was better than living at home.
“Well, we still need to pick one.” Bai Yu smiled slightly at me and, seeing my hesitation, directly recommended.
“How about this one?”
Bai Yu opened a bedroom door. The interior design was very exquisite, with curtains pulled back to reveal a large, bright floor-to-ceiling window, and there was a balcony outside.
If it were this bedroom, it seemed just right.
“Um, I’ll take this one!”
I happily decided.
“Don’t you want to see any others? What if another is better?”
“Contentment brings happiness; if I look at so many choices, in the end, I can only choose one. Rather than hesitate later, it’s better to make a decision right now.”
“That’s true.”
Bai Yu accompanied me into the bedroom, and then a suitcase appeared out of nowhere in her hand, the same one I had carried before leaving.
