Chapter 2: The Not-So-Great Witch Academy
After leaving that house, I felt an unprecedented sense of freedom.
Although I was a bit worried about what to do with my life next, and what to eat for my next meal, those were matters I would deal with later.
This home… I really couldn’t stay here any longer.
Now that I’ve reached adulthood, taking this opportunity to leave is a great start.
“Xiao Han? Did you have another argument with your family?”
At this moment, a sudden voice called out to me, and I turned around to see an exaggeratedly curvy big sister. She is our neighbor and has lived here for a long time, so I’m naturally quite familiar with her.
Her name is Bai Yu, and I usually call her Sister Bai. She’s really nice; when I first fought with my family and stormed out in anger, it was Sister Bai who kindly offered me a place to stay. After things calmed down, she would even take me back and speak on my behalf.
“It wouldn’t be called an argument; it’s more like a complete fallout.”
I sighed. Although I was feeling angry with no place to vent, I wouldn’t take it out on Sister Bai.
“A complete fallout?”
Sister Bai was slightly surprised, but she still, as usual, began pulling me inside.
I followed her inside without being pretentious; after all, I hadn’t thought about where I was going next. If worse came to worst, I could just go directly to the Witch Academy once the admission notice arrived.
Staying at Sister Bai’s house was becoming hard for me; after all, I was already an adult.
“Xiao Han, tell your sister what happened?” As soon as the door closed, Sister Bai dropped her previous restraint and elegance, and instead lay back on the living room sofa.
Her chest jiggled with her movements, drawing my attention until my pupils began to shake.
But I’d seen this kind of thing many times over the years, so I quickly hid my reaction.
Honestly, this is the Sister Bai I know. She seems like a completely different person at home compared to when she’s outside; once the door closes, she becomes all lazy.
This also shows that Sister Bai doesn’t see me as an outsider.
I looked at Sister Bai’s slightly messy bedroom; however, the living room was quite clean since it could be seen when the door opened, but the bedroom was hidden from view.
At least the surface was handled well.
“What else could it be? Filling out my application choices! Can you guess which academy my parents want me to apply to?”
“Based on what your uncle and aunt think… could it be Slave Academy? If not, it should be the Inferior Demon Academy, right?” Bai Yu thought for a moment and named two academies.
“Pretty accurate, the Inferior Demon Academy. This academy has free tuition, includes meals and accommodation, and even gives a 50,000 yuan bonus to applicants. I guess my dad was attracted by that 50,000!”
“Seriously, I don’t think your dad sees you as a person at all. Attending the Inferior Demon Academy would practically be signing your own d*ath warrant.”
“Who says it isn’t? He really thinks there’s such a thing as a free lunch from the sky, so I just ran away. Sister Bai, for the next few days, please put up with me living here.” I joined my hands together, feigning a pleading look. I knew that even without this act, Sister Bai wouldn’t refuse me, but I still had to go through the motions.
“Of course, no problem. But how long will you be staying? Judging by your expression, are you waiting for your admission notice?” Bai Yu leaned back on the sofa, crossing her left leg over her right, looking amused.
“About that…” When Sister Bai brought up the admission, I felt a bit guilty. After all, being an adult man enrolling in a girls’ school might be looked down upon, right?
“Oh? Can you tell Sister Bai which academy you’re applying to? I remember you told me your score was… 586? It won’t be easy to apply to a good academy with that score.”
“Well… Sister Bai, could I keep that to myself?”
“Tell me! Let Sister Bai keep an eye on you!” Bai Yu changed her stance, looking serious as if she had me cornered.
“Alright… but don’t laugh at me.”
I prepared her in advance. Sister Bai is like a sister to me, even closer than family, just lacking a bit of bl**d relation, so I didn’t feel any issues sharing this matter with her.
After all, I chose the academy, and I’d have to go in the end; hiding it wouldn’t help.
“Hmm, I promise not to laugh, as long as you don’t step on any landmines. With your grades, you could probably apply to any academy.” Bai Yu lay relaxed, patiently waiting for my response.
“Okay.” I nodded, preparing to confess.
Actually, my current score is pretty average mainly because I was treated as mentally ill.
Because of this, I missed out on early education. At the time, I didn’t think it was a big deal; after all, I was a transmigrator. It wasn’t until I learned about the extraordinary powers in this world that I insisted on going to school.
Back then, my parents had already started raising a little brother and naturally disagreed with me attending school at this time, but it was Sister Bai who persuaded them, and I eventually managed to go.
This meant that in the few years before the college entrance exam, I crammed a lot of knowledge, including but not limited to theoretical meditation, magic, and fundamental elements theory, etc. My score was pretty much supported by this.
As for language… as long as there’s no barrier in communication, that’s fine.
“Well… I applied to… the Witch Academy.” I whispered, feeling embarrassed saying it out loud!
“What? Say it again?” Upon hearing my words, Sister Bai jumped up.
Seeing her strong reaction made my heart panic; this Witch Academy can’t really be some sort of pit, can it?
“Witch… Witch Academy!” I threw caution to the wind and loudly admitted it, “I applied to the Witch Academy, and they accepted me!”
After I finished speaking, a complex expression flashed in Sister Bai’s eyes, but she concealed it well. In that moment, it seemed as though she calmed down and returned to the sofa, “Witch Academy? Do you know about the Witch Academy?”
“Not really… Sister Bai, do you know a lot about it?” I tentatively asked.
“I just happen to be a student at the Witch Academy, you know. Seriously, how could you choose that academy?” Bai Yu said honestly, “Wait, the Witch Academy is still a first-tier academy, and even if its reputation isn’t great, it shouldn’t be a fit for you, right? How were you accepted?”
“Well… not long ago, someone claiming to be from the Witch Academy admissions office called and asked if I wanted to apply… so I agreed…” I said a bit shyly.
“Huh? Is it really that difficult to recruit new students for this year’s Witch Academy?” Even Sister Bai seemed a bit incredulous, but the fact was undeniable.
Then, Sister Bai had me open the application system to confirm and sighed.
“What’s wrong? Sister Bai, is the Witch Academy a really big pit?” I cautiously asked.
“Well, not exactly, but for you… it might be similar. Since you’ve been accepted, the academy probably won’t let you go easily…” Sister Bai stood up and patted my shoulder, “What was that phrase? Oh, welcome to the Witch Academy.”
Hearing Sister Bai say the same words as that teacher made me feel somewhat uneasy.
“Don’t think too much about it. When your admission notice arrives, I’ll accompany you to the Witch Academy. That’s the last bit of help I can give you.”
After Sister Bai finished speaking, she left me with a confused expression. I still didn’t know what I would be facing.
Could it be that the witch seniors at the Witch Academy are all too fierce?
