Chapter 27: Speculation on the Magic Source
“Yes, right now your mental power is insufficient to channel magic, let alone transfer the magic source, especially since you only have one magic source.”
“Then how can I channel magic?”
I continued to ask. Since this senior said my mental power couldn’t channel magic, mental power must be the key, so does that mean I need to meditate harder?
“There’s no rush. When the official semester starts, during the first class, your teacher will teach you. Learning to channel magic is the most basic ability for a prospective witch.” She didn’t make it clear directly; instead, she passed the responsibility to my unseen teacher.
“Can I get some information about what the teacher will teach in advance?” I thought to press further.
“Of course, it will be the meditation method. Is there anything more effective than the meditation method for enhancing mental power?”
The senior said this as a matter of course, but it seemed she thought of something else and continued to explain.
“Oh, I remembered. The meditation method I mentioned is different from the theoretical meditation you understand. In the first class of the semester, your teacher will teach you the meditation method exclusive to witches. The formless mental power will transform into solid strands of mental power, and only then will your mental power qualify to interfere with magic.”
I nodded slightly, not entirely understanding. So that means I can start learning after the semester begins, and I’ll be exposed to a new meditation method.
Putting aside everything else, I have confidence in theoretical meditation, so the new meditation method shouldn’t be an issue.
“Thank you for telling me all this, senior…”
“You’re welcome. Do you have any other questions?” The senior’s tone changed slightly when she said this, as if my questions were too numerous.
If I continued to ask, it felt like I might make her unhappy. After all, she wasn’t here just to answer new students’ questions early in the morning; she was registering.
“That’s all. Thank you again, senior!” I wisely chose not to ask further and left quickly after expressing my gratitude.
However, I didn’t go far; I sat down in a corner. The earlier conversation had given me a lot of useful information, such as the academy system on my phone, which has many functions I would need to explore myself.
Then there was the matter of how to use magic, which relates to a new meditation method.
Also, if I heard correctly earlier, it seems the magic source can be transferred?
This means the first magic source within new students is transferred to them by seniors.
I had observed the so-called magic source in my body with spirit vision, so I clearly knew there was a large amount of magic within it, and it seemed to be the kind of magic that could recover slowly. If the magic source could be transferred…
Then a person with abundant resources can cause their own magic source to increase rapidly. In my current understanding, the magic source represents magic, and magic is extraordinary power. Isn’t the extraordinary world all about who possesses more power?
From this perspective, the magic source is equivalent to a blue bar; the more blue you have, the more spells you can cast, and naturally, the stronger your abilities become.
I wonder how the extraordinary fields define abilities. Could it be simply tied to the number of magic sources?
It shouldn’t be that simple and crude, right?
I pushed these baseless fantasies out of my mind; after all, just relying on my imagination wouldn’t be of practical use. I bet teachers will explain this common knowledge later.
For now, I should worry about my financial future. If I can’t find a satisfying way to make money, I estimate I won’t even enjoy lunch properly.
Even finding a somewhat easier part-time job would be good.
Preferably one where I can come and go as I please, billed by the hour. After all, my main goal at the Witch Academy is to learn extraordinary knowledge, not to find part-time work for living.
I mustn’t lose sight of the main objective.
Of course, making money at this stage is also crucial. I wonder if the academy has any financial aid for impoverished students. Speaking of which, don’t male students receive subsidies upon enrollment?
Forget it; I’ll take a look at that later.
I opened the academy system and began to scrutinize it.
I saw class assignments and courses, which the senior had mentioned, but I could not see it now, or it showed as unassigned.
That makes sense; after all, the school hasn’t officially started. They probably don’t even know how many new students will register. The discrepancies must relate to the new students they’ve brought in.
They can’t just exclude the transferred students from being assigned to departments and classes, can they?
Having learned there was currently no notice on this, I began to explore the academy’s task system.
Upon opening it, I noticed the task system was divided into several regions. The most notable section was the academy’s “official” tasks. At first, I thought the pinned task was about guiding new students as volunteers, but the first was a bounty task to snatch someone!
It was even meticulously pinned by the academy, and it was the only one pinned.
This task showed many people had accepted it, but no one had completed it yet. What kind of important person would deserve this treatment?
Looking at the first task, I opened it to see the specific details.
The new student to be snatched by the academy was named “Tan Han.”
From what little information I gathered, she was the nation’s number one and the only student with a perfect score. That’s a perfect score! Given my limited understanding of college entrance exam rankings, I know full well that perfect scores come around at least once every few years.
It was precisely because of this that I had heard of this person I had never met before.
Many years had passed since the last perfect score; it’s no wonder the Witch Academy released such a task.
No need to think—this task has nothing to do with me. I’m also a new student; how could I snatch someone?
I’ll just find a stable part-time job instead. Ideally, it should be close to where I live or near the central teaching area.
After browsing for a long time, I noticed the familiar name “Xinmengli District.” Speaking of which, my dormitory is there too, isn’t it?
That means it’s very close!
Upon clicking, I found a bakery hiring apprentice staff. It seems this listing had been up for a while, and not many were recruited. Did they forget to take it down?
Even so, I still wanted to contact them to inquire. If possible, trying it out wouldn’t hurt.
Plus, mastering some baking skills would be nice. I could try making things in the dormitory later since that large villa has a kitchen, even though I only glanced at it and didn’t focus on it; it would be a shame to let it go to waste.
I quickly dialed the number, eager to get connected.
“Hello? Is this for a job application?”
Once the call connected, the other party’s voice came immediately. From their tone, it seemed this number was specifically left for job applicants to reach out.
“Yes, may I ask if you are still hiring…?”
“We are hiring. If you’re interested, you can come directly to my registration location for an interview.”
“Okay… thank you.” I replied politely.
“It’s no trouble. Goodbye.”
Hearing how quickly the other person hung up, I couldn’t help but worry; it should be a legitimate part-time job, right?
After all, the senior mentioned that if I got scammed, I could file a complaint for compensation.
Thinking about this boosted my confidence; trying it out wouldn’t cost me anything.
