Chapter 31: The Store Manager of the Bakery
When the baked dough was placed on the exquisite countertop, Tang Yihan’s flowing movements quickly transformed it into something I couldn’t afford.
I must say, Tang Yihan is indeed charming when she focuses on her work.
Meanwhile, Ying Shiqian was just watching me from the side, showing no inclination to help.
“What are you looking at? I’m the one who has to run errands later,” Ying Shiqian quickly added, noticing my gaze.
“Run errands? Do you really have to do it yourself?” A hint of confusion flashed in my eyes; I didn’t know what the senior was up to.
Sending it over would mean the delivery person… Oh, I recalled the price of that order. Indeed, that much money justified the senior going herself.
What if the delivery person damaged the cake?
At that moment, I still didn’t grasp the seriousness of the situation until someone walked into the bakery.
“Welcome~”
I cheerfully welcomed them, which has become a habit for a service-oriented part-time job.
“Oh, is this the new employee?” The senior who entered seemed quite familiar, looking at me with enthusiasm and immediately reaching out to hold my hands.
“Um, yes.”
I responded a bit awkwardly, unsure of what the situation was. Could she be a regular customer?
“Store Manager? You finally have time to come back.” Ying Shiqian said from behind me, and her address for this senior surprised me.
“Store Manager?”
I looked at this senior, or rather, I should now refer to her as Store Manager.
Moreover, she was still holding my hands and gently rubbing my knuckles, clearly taking advantage of the situation.
If it weren’t for her being a senior, I would have pulled my hands away.
She looked a bit too infatuated; could she have been a boy who was kidnapped back in the day?
But how could this senior be my overly naïve and cash-rich store manager?
This completely shattered my worldview!
“Yes, nice to meet you, my dear employee~ and you’re a new student too.” Shali reluctantly let go of my hands, seeming quite pleased with me as the new employee. “Do your best, although you’re not skilled yet, I look forward to your future performance.”
“Okay, I’ll work hard.”
I quickly responded with a standard phrase, not really understanding why there was an expectation of ability at a part-time job in a bakery.
Did I need to watch out for some kind of zero-cost purchase within the academy?
That seems pretty unlikely, right?
Though I wanted to ask about that, the Store Manager directly bypassed me and went straight to Ying Shiqian.
Tang Yihan instinctively took a step back to maintain her distance upon the Store Manager’s arrival.
“Yihan, are you serious about stepping back? I just wanted to care about my hardworking employee,” Shali said in an exaggerated tone, then suddenly threw herself into Ying Shiqian’s arms, looking for comfort.
“Only Shiqian’s warm embrace and softness can soothe my empty heart.”
I awkwardly walked to the cashier station where I worked; this Store Manager made a strong impression on me at our first meeting.
It truly made it hard for me to evaluate her.
“Don’t mind the Store Manager; that’s just how she is.”
Tang Yihan moved closer to me, seeming to want to soothe me because my shocked expression was not an act.
“This…”
“You just need to know she pays you. If she tries to take advantage, you can refuse directly or ask for more money; she will definitely choose to pay more.”
“Huh?”
At this moment, I was shocked by this operation. So there was this way to make money?
That’s incredible; I’ve learned something new!
However, Tang Yihan didn’t bother whether I understood; she went off to do her own tasks.
After all, the big order had just been completed, and the packaging hadn’t even been started.
“Um~ Shiqian, I received news that something big happened, right?” Shali engaged in a self-service face-washing while still not leaving Ying Shiqian.
And Ying Shiqian didn’t resist; perhaps this was the power of asking for more money?
Suddenly I felt a bit envious.
“Yeah, all the orders are here, and Yihan has done them all; I was just about to package them.”
Upon hearing Shali’s inquiry, Ying Shiqian quickly responded, although I found it somewhat hard to understand from the side.
What does a big commotion have to do with a large order?
Surely no one orders a red velvet cake for a birthday party, right? Wouldn’t it be better to spend that money customizing a birthday cake?
“So soon? That’s great; you’re really amazing and so efficient! What’s the note for this one?”
“To sum it up, it’s about abducting people; they just pay without sharing benefits.” Ying Shiqian shrugged, seemingly at a loss.
“What’s the delivery address and recipient?” Shali continued to pry.
“Holy Angel Academy, recipient is… Tan Han.”
Upon hearing this, I finally caught on to a few things, especially “Tan Han”!
If I heard correctly, isn’t this the academically exceptional student of this year?
Could it be a coincidence in name?
But my intuition told me it likely wasn’t, as having the same name as a genius would be very awkward.
But if the recipient is Tan Han… the situation becomes complicated.
Tan Han, a prodigy, doesn’t seem like someone who would join the Witch Academy.
She should have a better path; wouldn’t the top three elite academies be more appealing?
Then how is Ying Shiqian going to deliver this red velvet cake across cities?
And would Tan Han, who is usually busy, order something here at the Witch Academy?
Suddenly, too many questions flooded in, but it wasn’t my place to interject; clearly, this was a sensitive conversation, and as a part-timer, I had no right to ask.
“Huh? Holy Angel Academy? d*mn, I’m going with you on this one. I’ll ruin this order even if I won’t make any money from it!”
At this moment, the intensity in her expression suggested she was provoked.
Holy Angel Academy.
As soon as Ying Shiqian mentioned it, the Store Manager became angry. It looks like I should avoid asking the Store Manager about anything related to Holy Angel Academy in the future.
“Hey? Store Manager! Don’t act impulsively; making money is important, take the opportunity to ask for more money.”
“Right, ask for more money, tell them we’re increasing the price, and include me too!”
“Store Manager! Are you actually listening? Let them increase the price! We can’t just run around for free; we’re putting in the effort, and we’re leading the charge. If I fall, are you going to reimburse my resurrection costs?”
After hearing the Store Manager’s words, Ying Shiqian immediately exploded; she was really on the verge of going crazy with the Store Manager’s way of thinking. The only reason this store hasn’t gone under is probably all thanks to her preventing the Store Manager’s antics!
“Resurrection fees… right!”
It seemed like hearing this calmed Shali down instantly; the resurrection fee must be pricey, otherwise, how could it have such a calming effect on the Store Manager?
But… resurrection!
I shouldn’t have heard wrong; could people really come back to life after dying?
This… is this the Extraordinary world?
It’s terrifying; it’s practically tampering with d*ath!
“The resurrection fee has to be reimbursed by the other party!”
In the end, the Store Manager managed to squeeze out this statement before receiving a barrage from Ying Shiqian.
And I was just watching from the side, wondering if the Store Manager had a low profile in front of Ying Shiqian. Was there some sort of relationship between the two?
