Chapter 333: Resurrection Spell and the Essence of Life
“How is that possible… The Dream Demon, the Dream Demon can actually monitor my actions in that way… If I were to bring something like that to my brother…”
Ninglan Qiuyue thought of this possibility and was filled with dread. Given the known abilities of the Dream Demon, it would be easy to assassinate Ninglan Qiuyu.
“Take it easy. At least it hasn’t happened yet; everything is still moving in a good direction,” Tan Han comforted from the side.
Now, that Ninglan Qiuyu has so much support, or you could say it has gathered the “mandate of heaven” to rationally amass such power.
Tan Han had never experienced such a change in power dynamics, or rather, in this already peaceful Main World, no one had any experience in this regard. However, one thing is certain: those who find the right path gain support, while those who lose it lose their advantage.
Numbers, power, technology, or extraordinary skills are overwhelmingly dominant at this moment. At least Ninglan Qiuyu won’t d*e unless he does something reckless.
“Let’s meet up with the Ground Patrol Team first; we can’t afford to hesitate here any longer,” Tan Han said.
At first, Tan Han felt there was plenty of time, but the arrival of Ninglan Qiuyue brought her some bad news. The fact that Ninglan Qiuyue could come out secretly indicated that there was an issue at Ninglan Township Fort, causing those guarding her to be negligent.
According to Ninglan Qiuyue’s speculation, Ninglan Qiuyu might take advantage of this opportunity to violently initiate a change in power.
After all, such opportunities are rare; who knows when they’ll have to wait for this kind of favorable timing again?
“Yes, let’s send people up to provide support… Hmm?”
“What’s wrong?”
“I just received a text message from my brother… he really wants to take action and is asking how things are progressing here,” Ninglan Qiuyue said as she looked at the message.
After all, when she left, she had contacted Ninglan Qiuyu, and coming here in person to check the situation was also a result of negotiating with him.
At least everything is going smoothly now.
“Why so anxious? Is there no room for error? If we fail here or if the progress isn’t ideal, his reckless actions could end up ruining everything,” Tan Han frowned and commented. After all, speculation is one thing; confirmation simply changes the stakes.
“This kind of thing itself has no possibility of preparation. We all need to give it our all; this is not a peaceful transition of power for a City Lord.”
“That is true,” Tan Han nodded and did not pursue the matter further in terms of details.
Ninglan Qiuyue was also exchanging information from her side with Ninglan Qiuyu, and the most important point regarding the Dream Demon needed to be emphasized!
The presence of the Dream Demon is simply too uncontrollable, and she was afraid to imagine whether the people led by Ninglan Qiuyu were being monitored by nightmares like she was, potentially striking a fatal blow at a critical moment.
Qiuyue: The Underground City situation is basically under control, but I’ve encountered an attack by a Dream Demon on my side.
Qiuyu: Provide details.
Qiuyue: The Nightmare has the ability to attach itself to an item on a person, and it was just on me; fortunately, it was discovered.
Qiuyu: What?
Qiuyu: How did you find out?
Qiuyue: Oh, don’t you care about your little sister at all?
Qiuyu: This matter is very important.
Qiuyu: I want to know how you found out; I hope you understand the gravity of the situation.
Qiuyue: A visitor helped discover it; the method is unknown, but they’ve been brought into our camp.
Qiuyu: Understood. How is the situation over there now? Can you bring the Ground Patrol Team to help suppress the remaining forces within Ninglan New City as quickly as possible?
Qiuyue: Not meeting up? It would be very dangerous for you without our support.
Qiuyu: I’ve received news that the City Lord and the Dream Demon seem to have a conflict, and the situation isn’t as bad as you think.
Qiuyu: The main issue still lies with those Dream Demons.
Qiuyu: Just have a few people bring extraordinary weapons from the Extraordinary Research Base to connect with my people.
Qiuyu: With this cooperation alongside the outsiders, we can stabilize and suppress things.
Qiuyue: I hope so.
Qiuyue: Contact me immediately if anything happens; don’t be too proud to speak with your sister.
Qiuyue: Also, please send the handover location.
After having a detailed communication with the other party, Ninglan Qiuyue also had a target for the next steps.
“Have you communicated well?”
“Yes, it seems he really sees us as a backup plan. In a few days… Ninglan New City might…”
“No time to lament, let’s go.”
“Let’s go. However, this time, there are many members of the Ground Patrol Team. We can’t go back the way we came; that’s unrealistic and a waste of time. We need to take control of the elevators that lead up now.”
“Exactly the plan.”
“If we encounter the City Guards in the Dream World, I will be relying on you for that.”
When Ninglan Qiuyue was preparing to violently occupy the place with her Ground Patrol team, the City Guards there were already waiting for a long time.
“Miss Ninglan Qiuyue, we have been waiting here for a long time. There’s no need for us to point blades at each other; we will cooperate with your actions.”
“What do you mean?”
Facing the sudden cooperation from the other side, Ninglan Qiuyue instinctively felt there might be a trap, but then thought it didn’t seem likely.
“This is the City Lord’s order. If we lose contact with the City Lord, we must fully cooperate with the arrangements of Ninglan Qiuyu and you, Miss Ninglan Qiuyue.”
“Lost contact? What do you mean, lost contact with the City Lord…”
“Calm down, miss,” someone beside her immediately stopped Ninglan Qiuyue and advised.
“Let’s go, everyone. Please trust us; after all, we don’t have many people guarding this place, and we can’t fight you. We are aware of our own limitations.”
“Let’s go.” At this moment, Tan Han was also urging Ninglan Qiuyue.
Though even Tan Han was somewhat surprised by how smoothly everything was unfolding.
But now, combining the reactions and words of these City Guards, it doesn’t take much to deduce certain things.
These City Guards were clearly not on Ninglan Qiuyu’s side, which means they must be the City Lord’s people. If the City Lord made such arrangements, it can only prove one thing: it appears that this uprising led by Ninglan Qiuyu is, at its core, a test from a father to his son.
If all these Nightmares, Dream Demons, and outsiders hadn’t arrived, perhaps this test wouldn’t have occurred. Ninglan Qiuyu would simply inherit the position as per the normal process.
Realizing this layer, one can see that the rush deployed by the City Lord is apparent, but Ninglan Qiuyu has indeed provided an expected yet excellent answer.
Looking at it this way, the anomaly within Ninglan Township Fort doesn’t seem coincidental either. According to the information Ninglan Qiuyue received from her brother, it suggests that the City Lord had a conflict with the Dream Demon.
It should be Ninglan Qiuyun responding with a final counterattack after understanding some kind of key information about the Dream Demon, sweeping away most of the threats posed by the Dream Demon for his son.
If everything goes as expected… Once Ninglan Qiuyu arrives at Ninglan Township Fort, he can smoothly and easily complete the City Lord’s transition.
Combining the information brought by Ninglan Qiuyue and understanding the public opinion reversal among the city’s citizens, all this was already laid out in advance.
With this thought in mind, Tan Han breathed a slight sigh of relief, as if the situation had suddenly reversed, and even the pressure faced had been halved. However, none of this could be taken lightly.
Since the current City Lord and the soon-to-be successor have already made plans, everything can proceed in an orderly manner. Once the internal situation of Ninglan New City begins to stabilize and unify, they can unite against the Dream Demons and Nightmares, and they will be able to return.
But when Tan Han thought of this, she also felt a bit conflicted because she hadn’t found the answer she was seeking among all this.
Will the answer foretold by the spiritual vision also show deviations?
Or has she missed that answer at a certain moment?
But unfortunately, no one could provide Tan Han with this answer.
Ninglan Qiuyue stepped into the elevator, watching the Underground City gradually recede beneath her feet; her heart felt somewhat heavy.
At this moment, the Ground Patrol Team Headquarters.
“Hello, this is the Ground Patrol Team. What’s the matter?”
“Quick! Hurry! Someone come! Those cats! The cats have gone crazy! Hurry… ah!”
“What’s going on? Sir! Please clarify, what cats have gone mad?”
“Sir? Are you still there? Tell us where you are. Are you in danger?” The unusual situation on the phone also drew the attention of others in the Ground Patrol Team.
“What happened? Fights again?”
“Not clear; he mentioned something about cats going crazy.”
While they were confused, another call came in, and what they said was similar. After a simple differentiation, they learned that the so-called cats referred to those little ones known as “Fool Dreams.”
“What’s the situation? Our main force just left not long ago. What’s going on?”
“They said there’s been an attack by Nightmares, and with Nightmare-killing weapons, let’s go see what the situation is. Leave a few to guard, and the rest come with me.”
“By the way, Captain, since this incident involves that cat, should we notify that scholar? The one…”
“True, sigh… trouble. You, yes, you. Go find that scholar at the base; the rest come with me.”
At this moment, in my residence.
With nothing much to do, I was studying the runes involved in the Resurrection Spell, slowly dissecting the mechanisms behind its operation.
Regrettably, I discovered that there is nothing “unknown” in this Resurrection Spell, which includes the “soul” and “soul material” that I have yet to cover. This Resurrection Spell seemed to work without these two elements, undermining the information I previously understood about the essence of life.
So… this should be considered a rejected “Resurrection Spell.”
After all, the Academy Head had also said that the interpretation of life represents the iteration and development of the Resurrection Spell; previous Resurrection Spells also couldn’t be called Resurrection Spells.
Although I still couldn’t fully understand the operational mechanism of this Resurrection Spell, based on my comprehension, it seems to create a lifeless shell.
However, there are specific instances that require careful analysis, such as… the previous successful attempt with the Dream Demon; it can be resurrected.
In fact, there are no necessary components like shells for resurrection, additional rituals, spellcasting materials, sacrificial materials, etc. This further confirms that the so-called Dream Demon doesn’t seem to be a form of life widely recognized by the Void; it’s merely a peculiar creature drifting between reality and dreams.
Its form of life hasn’t been encompassed by the definitions of life recognized by the Void, and what it consumes as soul material is simply “food” to them, ultimately transformed into their source of power.
Additionally, I discovered a surprising fact: the effect of the Resurrection Spell is not about shaping a shell for a deceased person; the resurrected being’s body, consciousness, memories, etc., do not belong to the spell effect but are the results facilitated by the effect of the Resurrection Spell.
After all, if you resurrect someone and the form of that person’s existence post-resurrection is a result of the spell effect, then once the effect dissipates, doesn’t that mean the person is dead again?
If this spell is called a Resurrection Spell, no one would want to use it.
What’s more, the permanently existing individual post-resurrection does not function like the permanent effects of the Great Spellbook but is akin to my “Dream Rewriting Spell,” where the various effects achieved within the dream do not represent the spell effect but instead rewrite dream information to drive the dream itself.
The Resurrection Spell seems to be comparable, but it’s more sophisticated than my understanding.
It rewrites a life’s existence between life and d*ath in the Void!
Thus, the interpretation of a life’s existence form is crucial as it directly impacts the underlying logic of how the Resurrection Spell rewrites life and d*ath.
If you don’t know what life is, if you don’t define life, then you can’t use extraordinary skills to delineate the space of life and d*ath that can be resurrected.
Through the Resurrection Spell, I have gained insight into three forms of life.
One is the living form, which is the most meaningful form of life.
The second is the life-and-d*ath form, or perhaps a superposition state? It roughly means that any action of life loses meaning, which is the typical understanding of d*ath.
This is what people generally regard as the state of d*ath, yet the Resurrection Spell considers this still as a living form. Thus, I have called this form the life-and-d*ath superposition state, representing the threshold where the Resurrection Spell operates, allowing lives in this state to return to the first form through certain means. This is the guiding basis for resurrection.
The third life form is the completely dead state, which is the form of d*ath that I previously understood as unrecoverable by the Resurrection Spell.
Therefore, concerning the interpretation of life, the interpretation of soul material was able to endure for so long and remain unbreakable because it provided a clearer definition of the interval of life and d*ath forms. Even now, as the interpretation of life begins to transform from soul material to soul, it merely expands the definition of the life-and-d*ath interval.
Because the essence of the soul is higher than that of soul material, the life-and-d*ath interval is broader, making the possibility of complete d*ath less likely.
At least in the realm of the Resurrection Spell, the soul has such an advantage.
When I personally realized this, my blind fear of the Resurrection Spell diminished by over half. Once a person understands their true essence, they won’t fear d*ath as much.
Even if some worry that the resurrected one might not be me, I can only say that people often complicate things too much, believing in the nobility and complexity of their own life, but those are merely additional values they assign themselves.
I have a very clear positioning for myself: I am someone who has crossed over; my essence is merely a soul. Even if I’m not that person from my past life anymore, when I come to this world with memories, my essence can only be a soul.
Even if you say the essence of life is something higher, like the primordial spirit or holy soul, that’s just different forms of life. If they’re really that good, then I would find a way to transform.
But don’t forget what the Academy Head told me: the essence of people in this world is soul material. When the Truth Witch of the Soul exists, the essence of life transforms into the soul. When everyone in the Witch Academy becomes an Extraordinary Witch, they will transform the essence of their life into the soul. Therefore, there’s no need to be overly troubled about the essence of one’s life.
Thus, the interpretation of life didn’t eliminate the original Resurrection Spell; rather, it guides the Resurrection Spell towards deeper applications…
Just then, a violent knock sounded on my door.
“Who is it?”
I spoke with a hint of annoyance, as this was interrupting my contemplation on the Resurrection Spell!
