Chapter 4: Violent Recruitment
But the more it was like this, the more anxious I became.
I just didn’t show it on my face, trying to maintain a poker face so that others wouldn’t know what I was thinking.
However, my gestures became increasingly urgent, until I finally completely gave up and prepared to open the game to pass the time.
At any time, the game was my go-to choice for relieving stress.
So… game, start!
But after playing for a while, I found it uninteresting; the development of this world seemed somewhat distorted. Why wasn’t the gaming industry evolving?
If other novel protagonists traversed into a world where the gaming industry wasn’t developed, they would bind a system and then start dominating the gaming circle, right?
But I, since transcending into this world, have been getting annoyed at home. This is really a failure.
I mindlessly scrolled through my phone’s interface; there weren’t any interesting games or captivating novels. I really didn’t know what else this phone was good for.
I boredly opened my phone’s notes, and what’s recorded in there is quite stimulating; it’s my diary.
But who still writes diaries these days?
What’s a diary for?
Of course, it’s for recording life. If there’s nothing memorable on a given day, the diary seems to lose its significance.
Even so, my notes are filled with entries, albeit in a fragmented manner.
Every piece records the pain and helplessness experienced on certain days.
My endurance has grown over time; emotional breakdowns have decreased. In this calm yet eventful life, I often like to open it when I have nothing to do, to see what I still remember writing.
Just then, my high-speed train arrived at the station. I watched the crowd outside rapidly retreating, the speed gradually slowing down. Unfortunately, this stop wasn’t my final destination.
At first, I thought this was just a small interlude during the journey, but as a terrifying commotion erupted outside, the people outside began to panic and dodge.
The noise outside drew me to lean against the window to see what was happening. An indistinct figure flashed by outside, chased by another person.
Oh… it’s a battle between extraordinary beings!
After the initial excitement, I started to worry about the safety of the high-speed train I was on…
“Don’t worry. It’s just a recruitment battle between the academies. I didn’t expect that we’ve already arrived but they still haven’t settled the score,” Sister Bai noticed my emotional change and comforted me, then complained to herself a bit.
“Recruiting… people?”
This was my first time seeing a recruitment battle between academies making such a stir!
Ignoring the potential for collateral damage, this was far more exciting than what I had seen online!
Moreover, this was a duel of extraordinary powers; the invisible forces in their hands were causing terrifying destruction to the surrounding environment.
I had initially thought of using Spirit Vision to observe, as even invisible energy can be detected through Spirit Vision when observing the Inner World, where energy fluctuations can be perceived almost in any expressive form. However, it becomes quite a mental strain if you look for too long.
Unfortunately, they moved too fast, and by the time I reacted, their figures had vanished.
“Um… Sister Bai, is it really okay for them to do this?” I still asked worriedly.
“Don’t worry. The damage they cause will be reimbursed by the academies, and the battle is about to end.”
As Sister Bai finished speaking, the fighting noise outside seemed to have calmed down.
“They really stopped! How did you know, Sister Bai? That’s amazing.” I said with surprise, casually complimenting Sister Bai’s prowess.
“Their fight was drawing to a close. The fact that they could be brought here on the high-speed train only means that the one recruiting students has a rather twisted sense of humor, leaving the opponent watching them board the train, unable to do anything.” Bai Yu seemed to appreciate my compliment and began to explain with a slight smile.
“Ah? There are people like that? Which academy are they from?” My mouth twitched slightly at the thought of that person’s twisted sense of humor.
“Which academy could it be? The Witch Academy. Every year around this time, they’re the most aggressive in recruiting.” Sister Bai explained straightforwardly, as if she was used to it.
“Ah, really? They just recruit people so directly?”
I still found it hard to believe that the senior sisters of the Witch Academy were this fierce and proactive.
I instinctively glanced at Sister Bai, unsure if she had ever done something like this…
“Why are you looking at me? Recruiting is naturally done this way. The more straightforward the method, the higher the efficiency. They probably have some past grievances; lurking and recruiting is also a rather absurd form of revenge.”
“Indeed absurd…”
I leaned against the window and watched the situation outside. Because of these two, the stop time at this station was extended, and it felt like the staff here were about to curse.
Just as I was about to say something, a person walked into our train car. She had a confident and slightly smug smile. If it weren’t for the fact that there was a boy looking like he might have fainted tucked under her arm…
I couldn’t relate her to the one who had just been fighting.
“Sister Bai, she’s coming!” I instinctively said. No way? Could she be in our compartment?
“Of course, she’s coming. This compartment is a designated area for academy specialists. Don’t you think that since a while ago, it’s just been the two of us in here?” Sister Bai explained carefully.
And I listened, eyes wide open. Are the privileges of extraordinary academy members so great?
I had never heard of this before.
“Hmm? The sensing of magic… Oh! I didn’t expect to meet someone from the Witch Academy here. Hahaha, are you a senior?” The lively and cheerful big sister, carrying another person, swept through the compartment as soon as she entered, quickly spotting me and Sister Bai.
Her initial expression was somewhat wary, but upon sensing something, she immediately cheerfully approached us to call Sister.
Even I was surprised at how she recognized Sister Bai as a senior sister from the Witch Academy!
“Um, thank you for your hard work. Please sit here.” Bai Yu didn’t say much, only thanked her for her hard work in recruiting a fresh student.
Wait… when encountering such a situation, should we be comforting the other person for their hard work?
“Well, I won’t be polite then.” This senior sister came over to our seat as if she was familiar with us, settled the genius she had “recruited,” fastened the safety belt for him, and then sat down herself.
“Hello, senior sister! My name is Deng Xiaonan. Nice to meet you.”
“I’m Bai Yu; you can call me Sister Bai.” Bai Yu introduced herself as well. Throughout, Sister Bai seemed to maintain an attitude of being a higher-level senior interacting with a junior.
It seemed to express her unwillingness to get too close.
“Alright, Sister Bai, haha! By the way, are you also here to recruit students?” Deng Xiaonan glanced at me with curiosity and asked, “Your methods as a senior are truly brilliant, able to persuade new students to voluntarily follow you?”
It was clear that this future senior had mistakenly identified me as a student led away by Sister Bai. I wished it were true; that would mean I had some value in being “recruited.”
But in reality, I was just lured by a phone call and ended up willingly running over to join the crowd…
Thinking about it was somewhat pitiful.
