Chapter 86: The Long-Awaited Roommate
I opened the food delivery app; since I’m in the accommodation district, there aren’t many good restaurants around, and most of the options are dishes I’ve never tried or even seen before. Each has its own unique flavor, but they may not suit my taste.
Furthermore, the delivery fees for places that are farther away can be quite high.
Actually, I’ve been discouraged from ordering takeout several times because it’s so expensive, but who told me I’m financially free now?
So now I can order takeout without any guilt.
There are also many types of delivery riders; for instance, those who use flying broomsticks arrive quickly but at a higher cost, while those without flying licenses use bicycles, which are slower. Deliveries that need to cover the entire academy can take quite a bit of time, but they are cheaper.
Perhaps from this perspective, obtaining a flying license has its advantages for delivering food quickly and making money. However, I doubt anyone in the academy would specifically get a flying license just to deliver takeout, right?
No way, right?!
In any case, after some deliberation, I ended up choosing the cheaper bicycle delivery because it was somewhat far away and would take some time. However, I don’t mind, as the senior delivering my food can pick up professional alchemical items at the club, so there’s no fear of the food getting cold or losing its flavor. According to the estimated delivery time, the food should arrive just in time for dinner—simply perfect.
After placing my order, I prepared to relax fully. Today, I had to memorize many flying regulations for that theoretical assessment, and my mind was filled with all the questions from the practice bank, along with various brainwashing cases of reckless witches.
For example, as a witch flying at a constant height on a broomstick, if a fast-moving black dot appears on your left side, how should you respond?
The correct answer is to immediately swerve to the right and quickly cast a protection spell on yourself.
Of course, there are many misleading wrong answers, such as swerving to the left, which is a common mistake. Some others suggest preparing offensive magic while prioritizing personal safety, and so on.
In short, most of these questions are common sense, but I feel that many of the tempting options could lead people to engage in violations.
While I was enjoying this rare moment of leisure, I vaguely heard some noise.
I immediately stopped what I was doing, not making a single sound. I was afraid I had misheard; surely that was a knock on the door, right?
Is someone really knocking on my door at this hour?
Could it be my roommate?
Thinking this, I quickly stood up and walked briskly to the door, but soon remembered that if it were my roommate, she probably wouldn’t knock, right?
Where’s the room card?
Regardless, I went ahead and opened the door, as I had confirmed that someone was indeed knocking outside.
When I opened the door, there stood two young girls. Just from their positions, it was clear that the senior behind had a strong dominance over the timid girl in front of her.
From the aura they both radiated, I could guess that the one in the back was the senior, while the one in front… wearing a rather flamboyant dress that clashed somewhat with her style, was the new student.
What could have happened here? I looked at the new student, who seemed too shy to meet my gaze. Since I opened the door, she hadn’t even looked up at me.
“Hello, Senior. Did you come to bring the new student here?”
I quickly pieced together what was happening and smiled as I spoke directly to the senior behind.
“Yeah, this is Newmengli 62, right? I haven’t been here much.” The senior held out a room card, which I assumed was the one allotted to the new student. She checked it and then passed it to me.
“Newmengli District 2, No. 62—this should be it.” I took the room card from the senior and tried it in the door.
The door quickly clicked open, indicating that the card worked, and indeed I was at the right place. It seemed that there would finally be a second occupant in this villa!
“Yep, this is the right place. Could you please bring my roommate inside? Does she have any luggage? If so, I could help her carry it.” I said enthusiastically, as this girl would soon be my roommate. Seeing her expression, it looked like her relationship with this senior wasn’t great either; I thought it best to rescue her sooner rather than later.
Making a good impression wouldn’t hurt.
“Luggage? She doesn’t have any. Whatever, I’ve delivered her here. Since there’s a roommate, then Dongli Yiren—let’s meet again if fate allows!”
It was evident that the senior hadn’t prepared any luggage for her, judging by her irresponsible tone. Compared to Quan Xiuzhu, this was definitely better; at least she was brought to the villa instead of being dumped on the roadside.
That girl was left on the street, after all, by someone who didn’t care.
But could this girl named Dongli Yiren have been a boy before?
But is there really a boy’s name called Dongli Yiren?
“I said I’m not Yiren!” At that moment, the new student quietly shouted in a slightly hushed voice.
“Ah… Sorry, she was a boy before, so I adjusted his name; the pronunciation is similar, isn’t it? No need to rush. In any case, I hope you can get along well and not… avoid her because she was a boy before.” The senior seemed to realize this and hurriedly explained to me.
However, this explanation seemed quite retaliatory. When her former status as a boy was mentioned, Dongli Yiren’s head dropped, as if she wanted to hide underground. It seems the senior wasn’t someone naive either…
“Ah? A… boy?”
I cooperatively responded with a somewhat incredulous tone, but I had no intention of probing further. The senior was already preparing to leave, leaving the new student awkwardly standing there.
After the senior took out her broom and flew away, the girl, who had been renamed Dongli Yiren, finally spoke up.
“Sorry… if you mind, I’ll leave…”
“Tsk… If you leave, where will you go? Don’t think you can just stroll out of the Witch Academy; if you don’t stay in the academy-assigned room, will you live on the street corner?” I changed from my shocked expression to respond.
My words successfully made Dongli Yiren stop in her tracks.
“Did you have a falling out with that senior? Come in. Don’t worry, I don’t mind that you were a boy before.”
I pushed the door open and stepped back to let her inside. I couldn’t let my first roommate just leave like this!
“Really, you don’t mind? Earlier, you…”
“Just acting. Didn’t she want to see you being alienated by your roommate? I saw how satisfied she was when I expressed surprise at her.” I smiled and explained, sensing that this new roommate seemed a bit naive. Or perhaps she understood everything but wanted validation because of her shyness?
“Thank you…”
“Don’t mention it, just come in. It’s way too boring living here alone.”
I led her inside and then closed the door completely.
Thus, there would be a second person in this villa!
