Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School – Chapter 93

Chapter 93: Club Volunteer Activities

After arriving at the kitchen, I briefly explained the current situation to Senior Tang Yihan.

After all, these were just ordinary matters, and the other party was just my roommate.

So, Senior Tang Yihan quickly shifted the topic away from that.

“Xiao Han, you’ve been at the Witch Academy for quite a while, right? Although classes haven’t started and there’s no school atmosphere, aside from the courses, this is the most common state of being in the academy.”

“Indeed, it feels a bit too comfortable,” I nodded in agreement. The past few days had been about helping out in the store or practicing flying in the afternoon, so it definitely felt like a monotonous routine.

“Do you like this kind of life?”

“Um… I wouldn’t say I like it a lot, but I can’t say I dislike it either.”

For a moment, I couldn’t quite grasp what the senior was trying to convey, but I did enjoy this laid-back routine. However, over time, it did feel dull, and it was quite different from the extraordinary world I had imagined.

“You’re saying you even kind of like it? Actually, everyone who enters the Witch Academy is considered a preparatory witch. Witches are the ones who can’t sit still,” Senior Tang Yihan laughed at my response. “Want to change things up a bit? You’re part of the bakery club, and actually doing cash register and baking aren’t the entirety of our club activities. Have you heard of club activities?”

“Club activities? I’ve heard of them.” Hearing the senior mention this, I suddenly felt awake.

Each club has its own unique activities; they can be tedious or quite exciting. For example, the flight training club recruits students to teach flying skills, occasionally holding flying competitions and events.

I heard that some meaningful or interesting activities that get reported to the academy can even receive funding from the academy.

Could it be that our small club with only a handful of members also has some thrilling activities?

“Um, Senior, do we have any interesting activities in our club?” I set down my tools and asked with expectation.

“I can’t guarantee it’s interesting, because it’s all organized by the store manager. She often organizes some club activities when she has time. Before, there weren’t many people, so we didn’t really pay attention to her. Now that it’s a new semester and clubs are recruiting new members, she’s gotten the idea again.”

“Ah… feels like it might not be interesting.” My previously curious mood instantly deflated.

If even the senior wasn’t interested in the activities, how could I possibly enjoy them?

Speaking of recruitment, if I remember correctly, it seems they only recruited two members, and Tan Han probably doesn’t have the time to humor the store manager, so if this activity happens, wouldn’t I be the one supporting it alone?

The senior would mostly just provide some assistance when I got busy.

“Indeed, it’s not very interesting, but this activity has to be done. Who told the store manager to offer some appealing rewards? There are Magic Sources and Spellbooks,” Senior Tang Yihan said casually when she saw my lack of enthusiasm.

“Ahem… I still think this activity could be interesting.” I immediately changed my tune; why didn’t she mention the rewards sooner!

These represent an increase in magic capacity and spell skills. This could allow me to pull ahead of those new students before the semester even starts!

“Um, Senior, I think I’m really suitable for participating in this activity. Can you tell me what it entails? As long as it’s not too outlandish, I’m okay with anything!”

“New Student Guidance,” Senior Tang Yihan said succinctly.

“Huh? What?”

“New Student Guidance means that before classes officially start, due to the irregular special recruitment of new students by many current students, a significant portion of the new students entering the academy haven’t completed the full process. In fact, many new students haven’t even collected their room keys, and it’s not uncommon to see them sleeping on the streets within the academy…”

“Wait a minute! Doesn’t the academy manage this?” I interrupted the senior, not to mention mischaracterizing abduction as special recruitment, but that this irregularity seemed to be the norm!

“Aren’t they managing it? But someone still needs to be specifically assigned to do it.”

“This… isn’t that just essentially cleaning up after those irresponsible seniors!” I retorted, and I seemed to have done something similar before, like with the unlucky Quan Xiuzhu. If I hadn’t been there, I felt she really would have ended up sleeping on the streets that night.

“But there are rewards,” she said.

“This… I…”

For a moment, I was at a loss for words; the rewards were indeed tempting. Both the Magic Sources and Spellbooks were attractive.

“So… are you all going?”

“I don’t want to go,” Senior Tang Yihan clearly expressed her stance. “Ying Shiqian probably feels the same.”

“And… what about Tan Han?” I asked tentatively.

“As for her, the academy has given this top student very generous treatment, which naturally includes things like Magic Sources and Spellbooks, so she probably wouldn’t be interested.” Senior Tang Yihan sighed and spoke in a low voice.

“Ah…”

At that moment, I felt the so-called gap between people, but I quickly voiced my soul’s question, “So am I the only one in the entire club who might go? Why is the store manager even organizing this activity!”

“This is a preserved activity for every incoming class; it’s a volunteer obligation for every club. If our club continues to not fulfill it, the store manager will face even more pressure. But it’s okay, if you feel wronged, you can just do your part to meet the assigned number of participants. Our club isn’t big, and the target isn’t high. At worst, I’ll just ask the store manager to give you some compensation; I’ll go cry to her for you.”

“Well, it’s not that serious,” I quickly responded, running to the store manager to cry wouldn’t really be necessary.

“Then I’m counting on you for this; you’re the last hope for our club!” Then, Senior Tang Yihan seriously held my hand, looking intently at me, giving me no chance to back out.

So I was forced to accept this assignment, and she even said that the pay during this period would be counted as full-time.

After all, no matter what I did, it was efforts for the bakery, so how could they not pay me?

This was something I could start doing tomorrow. If possible, I could even start today; this activity would continue until the official opening day of classes. After that day, the process would follow the correct procedures, rather than being as chaotic as now.

If you ask me, this was simply asking for trouble; all they needed to do was adjust the specific requirements of the academy system for the improper recruitment task, ensuring that the required process was followed. That should solve most of these issues.

But evidently, I was thinking too much. Those seniors probably looked down on the rewards of the recruitment tasks, some had personal grievances with other colleges, and others simply enjoyed abducting junior students.

If the rewards for such recruitment (special admission) tasks were high, then the trend of recruitment at the Witch Academy could become even more terrifying. The three main academies wouldn’t just sit idle; they would surely react to this.

Thus, the number of “special admissions” is indeed very small, even fewer than I imagined. When I first arrived, it was probably during the peak of admission notice distribution, and many new students voluntarily arrived early, so the numbers looked large.

Now, the number of new students has already decreased. The most direct evidence was when I accompanied Dongli Yiren to collect the four-piece set; I hardly encountered any new students. The senior responsible for registering and distributing uniforms seemed particularly relaxed.

When the admissions office of Witch Academy called, I was stunned—I had been accepted into a school I never imagined I could touch. Yes, I am a boy and it is an all-girls’ academy, but they did not mind, so I saw no reason to object. I had applied secretly, without telling my family, just to take a chance. But as soon as those striking seniors greeted us newcomers—pressing every boy against the wall with a knowing smile—I realized things were about to spin out of control. “Oh, come now, you sweet little freshman,” one of them said smoothly, her voice full of mischief. “Don’t make this difficult for me, your big sis. Swallow this core and transform into a witch like me, alright?” She held the glowing orb before us, half-threatening, half-teasing, almost inviting the new boys to react. It was clear she enjoyed it—the blend of fear and resistance in their expressions. Our unease seemed to be her personal amusement. After all, they only had this opportunity once a year.
