Chapter Twenty-Three: It’s You, Big Muscular One!
In a pitch-black corridor, the girl’s eyes flickered with a few azure flames, the dazzling silver armor enveloping her body accentuating her originally delicate curves with a hint of heroism.
Jiang Li stepped forward, facing several ghosts that lunged simultaneously, effortlessly sending out her long kn*fe in a fluid motion.
In that instant, the humming of the kn*fe blade overlapped with the wails of the ghosts.
The long kn*fe, breathing silver light, tore through the darkness, leaving behind a series of solid silver arcs in the air.
Those ghosts swept by the light arcs froze in mid-air and instantly exploded, their dark bl**d splattering like thick ink, shattering into countless droplets in the darkness.
Then, brilliant silver light flared, shooting out and streaking across the corridor’s walls, leaving behind deep cracks.
Jiang Li advanced quickly, where she passed, it was as if she ripped through layers of thin paper, effortlessly tearing apart one urban legend after another.
Without hesitation, without a moment’s thought.
Her kn*fe was fast and sharp, but what was even more terrifying was the poison on the blade.
Even a deity would suffer if the Hydra’s venom invaded their body.
The silver light flashed and disappeared, like a fleeting meteor.
In an instant, Jiang Li had rushed from one end of the corridor to the other. The few remaining ghosts curled up in a corner, hesitating, shivering in fear.
These poor creatures, bound by the higher urban legends, might be deadly beasts for ordinary people, but to a truly powerful spiritual ability user, they were utterly no match.
But this was merely a test.
The pitch-black shadows that enveloped the corridor had yet to dissipate, and Jiang Li was well aware that the instigator was still lurking in the dark.
She no longer looked at the ghosts; she raised her wrist, the kn*fe blade dropped, she sheathed her kn*fe, and her gaze scanned the surrounding darkness, cold as if frozen.
“Come out, the probing is over!”
Jiang Li called softly, receiving no response. Just then, her phone in her arms vibrated.
The encrypted file had been decrypted.
Raising an eyebrow, she quietly took out her phone and opened the document.
Since you don’t want to reveal yourself, don’t want me to know the content of the file, and don’t want me to leave with it, then I’ll take a good look at what it says inside!
Jiang Li thought, unlocking her phone and opening the file. After scanning the contents, she was momentarily stunned.
She had expected something important to be in a document that was kept so securely, but it turned out to contain a few diary entries and several audio files.
Frowning slightly, she clicked on the first diary entry and began to read aloud.
“May 22nd, the Big King’s weight gain progress has been severely obstructed; it has stopped eating.
I believe this is likely because it heard us discussing at the pigpen that we would turn it into a specimen after securing new investments.
Pigs are very intelligent animals; they can read human expressions, and some can even understand human speech.
I am sure the Big King understood our conversation that day. When I looked at it, its eyes spun around, and it even smiled at me, its long white tusks curving out from its mouth.”
The Big King? Jiang Li furrowed her brows after reading the first diary entry. She hadn’t seen a specimen with that name in the Pig King specimen exhibition room, but from the content of the log, the empty glass tank might be prepared for it.
After pondering for a few seconds, she opened the second file, an audio file with a title full of garbled text.
“Beep—!”
As her fingertip touched the file, a dispute between two men erupted from her phone.
“I told you long ago that there was a problem with that dubious formula! It’s only luck we didn’t have an incident in previous years!”
“Shut up! If I hadn’t brought that formula from the Tibetan Highlands, could we compete with the Hope Meat Factory? Could we raise the Pig King? Without the Pig King, could we attract such sponsorship?”
“Hmph! You say that with righteous indignation, but I’ve never heard of feeding pigs a mixture of animal corpses and heavy metals! The meat from such pigs will k*ll people, do you know?”
“What mixture? That’s divine medicine, do you know divine medicine?”
At this point, Jiang Li tensed her brows.
The description sounded like a kind of sinister alchemical potion?
Is this what they call meat?
As she pondered, she suddenly felt the shadows around her grow increasingly deep. Something in the darkness stirred, emanating a wave of oppressive spirit energy, as if trying to force her to halt this offensive behavior.
“Hmph—!”
Jiang Li let out a cold snort, her delicate body tremoring slightly, as a horseman phantom with fur as pure as the moon flashed past her. The oppressive feeling instantly dissipated, and she continued to click on the next file to read.
“June 17th, for such a paltry investment, the factory director stubbornly insisted; it’s absurd!
The people at Hope Meat Factory always think we have some special scientific breakthroughs. This time, they even went so far as to conduct absurd acts of sending people to sneak into the factory to steal.
When two absurd incidents came together, something finally happened.
That thief accidentally fell to his d*ath in the Big King’s pigpen.
No, perhaps he was not dead when he fell; he was only found dead when we discovered him…
d*mn it!
I told the director long ago that we couldn’t feed pigs that stuff anymore; once they’ve tasted raw meat, they won’t forget it!”
After reading the second diary entry, Jiang Li was about to open the second audio file when suddenly, a deep growl echoed from the other end of the corridor, sounding like a raging wild boar, mixed with heavy breathing.
In the next moment, sparks erupted from the cold ground of the corridor, and a sharp, high-pitched sound burst forth, tearing apart the deathly silence.
In the dark, a massive figure was charging, bellowing wildly, with iron hooves stamping down, bringing with it a thunderous sound.
A thick wave of foul spirit energy surged forth suddenly, suffocating, as the pounding hooves resembled a drum announcing impending d*ath.
In the darkness, a piercing sound abruptly shot out.
Without warning, Jiang Li drew her blade forward, the blade clashing against something unusually hard in the dark, sparks flying, and the sound of teeth-grinding friction rang out.
The blade collided hard against the ghost’s tusk, the tip pivoting upwards, and Jiang Li felt a sudden numbness in her palm.
Using the momentum, she leaped into the air, rolling backwards. As her hand touched the ground, silver armor silently materialized, and as she landed, the armor shifted, her lower body transforming into that of a powerful steed.
As the hooves hit the ground, azure and silver intertwined, dispersing the surrounding filth with the breath of a raging wind.
At that moment, a strange feeling suddenly rose within Jiang Li’s body, and the black sun totem on her back began to emit a faint glow, flickering restlessly.
She felt her spirit energy falter momentarily, her movements momentarily stiffening, and the next moment, a heavy iron hook soared in from the darkness, striking her in the chest.
Her chest armor caved in, propelling her backwards instantly, her body crashing against the wall, creating a massive breach, before falling from the high building, tracing a parabolic arc in the air, landing heavily on the ground in front of the building.
“Boom—!”
The ground erupted with a sound as Jiang Li hit the ground, gritting her teeth through the intense pain, she stood back up, her complexion pale, her bl**d-stained lips revealing an eerie quality.
Feeling the stirring of the black sun totem on her back, an unsettling feeling gradually rose in her heart.
Members of the Solar Eclipse Society were at the South Suburb Slaughterhouse; they had broken the seal and were performing that ritual in the dark!
Jiang Li thought heavily, her fingertips unconsciously moving towards the d*ath-Owl Badge hidden beneath her armor.
Even if she were punished for acting without permission, it was better than letting those damned fellows from the Solar Eclipse Society succeed, she thought.
If they succeeded, an A-grade being would be born from the contaminated land of the South Suburb Slaughterhouse, just like what she had once personally experienced.
But there were so few like her who had withstood the Night Decay and become spiritual ability users; those born from that kind of ritual were most likely urban legends.
“d*mn it, d*e for me, d*e for me!”
Just as Jiang Li was about to touch the d*ath-Owl Badge, a sudden shrill shout rang out from a distance.
Looking in the direction of the voice, she saw a white-haired girl single-handedly carrying a burly man more than twice her size, racing across the factory’s rooftop, leaving behind a trail of remnants, while constantly pulling out things from her bosom and throwing them at the three massive figures resembling wild boars chasing behind her.
Every time the three urban legends were struck by the objects thrown by the girl, a purple-black smoke would rise around them, making them sway as if drunk.
“That’s…” Jiang Li focused her spirit energy to cover her eyes and peered at the things in the girl’s hands, and her mouth twitched slightly, “Floodwater? This…”
Where did she get so much floodwater?
With such a large volume, she was definitely not just a mover; she was surely a producer.
This woman was a big problem!
As Jiang Li was pondering, a gust of fierce wind suddenly swept overhead, and the next moment, a half-human, half-pig monster covered in human face-like tumors descended from the sky, throwing a massive, sharp iron hook at her.
She hurriedly dodged, the iron smashing down and being dragged across the ground by a pair of pale hands, leaving deep trenches.
————
Zhang Dexian watched as Luxianbei seemed to disregard the cost, continuously pulling out floodwater to throw at the urban legends behind her, leaving him dumbfounded.
This girl truly is…
Too despicable, too wealthy, too disgusting!
“What are you looking at? Didn’t you say you had a killer move? You’ve been preparing for over ten minutes and still not ready?”
“With your poor performance, do you think you can learn from others to be the Dragon Domineer? How many times have I told you? The Dragon Domineer cannot choose a profession with long read times; that’s not cool enough!”
Hearing Luxianbei’s voice in his ear snapped Zhang Dexian back to reality, and he hurriedly replied, “Okay, I’m ready! I will…”
Before he could finish, Luxianbei suddenly stopped, turned around, and made a backstep shooting motion, throwing him toward the relentless urban legends behind.
“Ready, then you go! It’s decided, it’s you, Big Muscular One!”
Zhang Dexian, “???”
I thought we were already friends; how could she…
Caught off guard for a moment, his bulky body was already descending toward the three urban legends, sensing the approaching spirit energy below, he snapped back to attention and quickly drew from his bosom the powered-up Vajra Pestle, aiming it at his chest.
“Puff puff puff—!”
Three stabbing motions, countless golden lightning burst forth from within him, illuminating the air.
Watching Zhang Dexian seemingly descend like a war god, Luxianbei nodded in satisfaction.
He’s the one I threw out; if we win this round, the credit will definitely be split 80-20, I eight, he two!
