Chapter 18 So, please d*e!
Luxianbei suddenly stood still, staring intently at the oil painting turned upside down on the ground, a pair of dark red eyes flowing with golden light.
Du Sixian looked at Luxianbei and, for some reason, felt a bit scared, as if prey instinctively feared a predator.
The girl seemed a bit off; she resembled someone mentioned by a big shot in their chat group—someone in a spiritual medium state.
She can enter the medium state, meaning her identity may not be as simple as she claims. Du Sixian thought, excitement gleaming in her eyes.
According to that big shot, people like them who specialize in dealing with urban legends seemed to be called… called… Urban Legend Hunters? That should be the name.
Among the many Urban Legend Hunters, only a small portion could master medium spells.
So…
She is most likely a very powerful Urban Legend Hunter!
That’s right, it must be! She doesn’t need to prepare special rituals or recite special incantations, effortlessly entering the medium state…
Just a moment ago, when the painting was strange, she exterminated it easily. Can other Urban Legend Hunters do that?
Du Sixian felt delighted by her conjecture and couldn’t help but plot quietly.
I can’t believe I have the chance to meet such an amazing person; tonight wasn’t a waste at all.
I have to think of a way to befriend her; if necessary, I can forgo the equipment costs, treating it as an investment to win her over.
As long as I cling to this big leg, recording videos in the future will be much more convenient and safe.
At worst, when I get popular and start making money, if the income is split fifty-fifty… or sixty-four… er, even if it’s thirty-seventy, I wouldn’t be at a loss!
Du Sixian calculated in her heart, and unknowingly, a greedy smile appeared on her face, reminiscent of a chipmunk stuffed with nuts.
Just as she was immersed in her beautiful fantasies about the future, a sudden muffled sound in the corridor outside the Art Supplies Classroom interrupted her thoughts.
“Bam——!”
The sound was like someone knocking something over; it wasn’t loud, but echoed in the silent hallway, sounding particularly clear.
Du Sixian turned her head towards the sound. On the window of the classroom close to the corridor, covered with a thick layer of dust and with the hallway being pitch black, she couldn’t see what was happening outside.
“Bam——!”
Not long after, that strange muffled sound rang out again, this time seeming closer.
Du Sixian frowned, instinctively stepping back a few paces, distancing herself from the window near the corridor.
What could that be? Could it be the Pharaoh and his crew coming over?
Just as Du Sixian was pondering, the sound echoed in the corridor once more, this time it was definitely close; she could tell the source of that sound was somewhere not far from the window.
“Bam——Bam——!”
Like wooden blocks hitting the ground, the muffled sound rang out outside the window, and then Du Sixian saw two pale, elongated, indistinct shadows appear outside the window, pausing.
The shadows looked like legs, but they were definitely not human legs; if humans had legs that long, they would be at least three meters tall.
Seeing this scene, Du Sixian began to panic, holding her breath and standing still, not daring to move.
She could feel the madness and evil emanating from those two shadows.
Anxiously, she shifted her gaze to Luxianbei, hoping Luxianbei would deal with the unknown presence outside the window, but Luxianbei was still tightly shut-eyed, seemingly still immersed in the medium state.
Time passed slowly in this tense and chaotic atmosphere. The muffled sound rang out again, and those legs started to move, walking farther away in the empty corridor.
Seeing this, Du Sixian let out a slight sigh of relief, her tense nerves suddenly relaxing. She felt a tingling sensation in her limbs.
I need to get out of here quickly; I don’t know if that thing will come back!
Du Sixian stealthily approached Luxianbei, contemplating how to awaken her from the medium state, just then that muffled sound echoed in the corridor again, but this time it was mixed with the crisp sound of metal clashing.
Suddenly, the muffled sound paused for a moment, followed by a sound of a door opening echoing in the dark, silent corridor. The rusted door hinges creaked, making a sound like a thin person choking on their throat.
“Is anyone in there?”
“No…”
Someone spoke in a strange voice, uttering chilling words; Du Sixian seemed to suddenly realize something, her pupils constricting sharply.
That sound of metal clashing was from a key ring! The thing outside was opening the classrooms, searching for something!
The thought flashed through her mind, and every hair on Du Sixian’s body stood on end; her scalp tingled as if being bitten by a swarm of tiny bugs. The heavy footsteps and door opening sounds in the corridor grew closer. She had no time to think and turned to run back to where she had come in.
In her frantic running, she brushed past the “dazed” Luxianbei. Du Sixian frowned, gritting her teeth and muttering, “If I’m going to d*e, then so be it!” She scooped Luxianbei up and carried her onto her shoulder.
Just as Du Sixian began to carry Luxianbei out, she heard the sound of a key opening a door in the corridor again; it was very close, just next door.
“Is anyone in there?”
“No…”
That eerie whisper echoed again, and Du Sixian felt her legs weaken, swallowing hard.
This is bad; that thing is coming! I might not make it out carrying this girl!
Only…
As she pondered, the door of the Art Supplies Classroom suddenly made a sound as if someone was turning the lock.
“Click—click—click—!”
The faint sounds rang in her ears like a d*ath knell, and Du Sixian felt all her nerves being tugged by something.
She glanced at Luxianbei on her shoulder, looked around, and fixed her gaze on a corner of the room, her focus sharpening.
…
In the dimly lit room, various art supplies were scattered everywhere, and an easel lay upside down in the center of the room, a faint glow flowing over a statue resembling a nuclear warhead.
The whole room was eerily quiet, with only the sound of the key turning in the lock echoing.
“Creeeak—!”
The door of the Art Supplies Classroom was pushed open, accompanied by the faint sound of paper rustling in the wind, and a shadow squeezed in through the gap.
Its outline resembled a human, but its limbs were unnaturally elongated, appearing boneless, twisting into grotesque shapes along with the cold wind.
That pale body was supported by an easel, and the whole form was thin as paper, with only the head painted with a grotesquely stiff smile.
Though it was smiling, its pair of dull eyes were filled with pain and sorrow.
It moved through the classroom, its thin body crawling rapidly along the walls and floor, making a unique rustling sound, characteristic of paper.
The entire classroom became extraordinarily oppressive.
Du Sixian hid inside a storage cabinet, peering through a gap to observe the situation outside. When she saw the eerie figure wandering in the classroom like an evil spirit, she silently covered her mouth with her hand.
She had no doubt that if she relaxed her grip now, a scream laced with cries would erupt from her mouth.
Time seemed to stretch infinitely, flowing slowly.
Gradually, a sense of heat spread from her chest.
Du Sixian looked down at the girl in her arms, frowning tightly.
So hot! Why is her body so hot?
Like she’s about to catch fire.
Is it because I disturbed her medium state, causing some mutation in her body?
But if that monster… if I’m leaving her out there alone, she could d*e, right?
Du Sixian pondered anxiously as Luxianbei’s body temperature continued to rise; she felt like she was hiding in an oven, her consciousness gradually becoming fuzzy.
In a daze, she felt the girl in her arms wriggling slightly, followed by the storage cabinet door being pushed open, cold air rushing in and instantly relieving her discomfort.
In a haze, she heard someone talking, and in the next moment, there was a terrified scream.
The sound was like a muffled cry from someone whose throat had been cut; just the sound made her shiver.
The intense negative emotions contained within that voice struck her like a hammer on her head. She instantly felt a wave of dizziness, followed by a fainting spell.
…
Regarding Zhao Ke’s past, it suddenly came to a halt in the dark.
Luxianbei abruptly opened her eyes, only to find herself confined in a small space, her heart sinking with a silent curse.
What the heck is this? What’s going on? What do I do now?
She internally posed three questions, then she pushed hard, and the iron door of the storage cabinet swung open with a loud “bang!”
After calming herself down a bit, Luxianbei suddenly noticed a boy standing in the disordered center of the classroom, facing away from her, trembling as if he had been startled.
“Who are you!?”
“Ah!” Hearing a low growl behind him, the boy exclaimed in terror, spinning around to look at Luxianbei with a frightened expression, his voice a little shaky, “I—I was going to ask you that; you scared the life out of me!”
“Uh… sorry…” Luxianbei weakly replied, expressionless as she stood up, walking toward the boy. “What are you doing here at this late hour? Don’t you know this place is dangerous?”
“I know!” the boy replied. “I actually came here with some classmates to play a courage-testing game, but we encountered some, uh, strange things, we got scared, and then… we got separated.”
“I heard some noises in this room earlier, and I thought it was my companions, so I came in to check, but ended up meeting you.”
As the boy spoke, his gaze drifted toward Du Sixian, who seemed to have a high fever, her face flushed, unconscious, with a few burn marks on her clothes.
“Really? I’m here doing an urban legend livestream, too, and I’ve encountered some really scary things… I got scared when you came in, so please don’t hurt us, I beg you.”
A petite, cute girl with watery eyes pleaded in a weak voice, displaying an innocent demeanor. Most people, including urban legends, would relax their guard, and this unexpectedly appearing boy was no exception.
He paused for a moment, scratching his head with a nervous chuckle, “Why would I harm you? I’m scared too, uh, how about we team up? That way, we can look out for each other.”
“Really? That would be great, but my companion hasn’t woken up yet, so…”
While Luxianbei spoke, she moved closer to the Ming King Statue. Upon noticing that the Ming King Statue was just a step away from her, a hint of ruthlessness flashed in her eyes.
“So, please d*e!”
Luxianbei suddenly let out a shrill shout, stepping forward and grabbing the Ming King Statue, swinging it toward the boy.
The sudden attack took the boy by surprise, and without time to react, his body was struck hard by the Ming King Statue, sending him crashing away and scattering the easel.
In that instant, many questions sprang up in his mind.
Why did she suddenly attack me? Shouldn’t I have been the one to ambush her first?
Why is she so strong? What in the world is that terrifying spirit energy fluctuation coming from her?
She… she’s coming!
“DUANG!” The muffled sound of metal clashing echoed again, and the boy’s neck bent backward as if it were broken, his body weakly tilting back.
In a daze, he saw a delicate face splattered with bl**d, bearing a chilling calmness and coldness, advancing toward him like an emotionless killing god…
