Chapter 22: The Strange “Love Letter”
Not sure how long she had been asleep, a chill wind that seemed to penetrate to her bones blew over her, and Yun Meng suddenly woke up.
Opening her eyes, she found herself lying on the cold floor. Rubbing her sleepy eyes, she sat up and was taken aback by the scene before her; a chill ran down her spine.
Where is everyone? Why… are they all gone?
A foul-smelling wind drifted through the empty corridor. The Pharaoh, who should have been beside her, and Liangyue, who sat opposite her, had both vanished without a trace.
The door to the room where the Brazilian Warrior God was located was tightly closed. She had no idea what was happening inside and didn’t dare to check.
Surrounded by darkness, her emotions gradually became frantic, and she hurriedly picked up the flashlight beside her.
“Click—Click—!”
She pressed the switch several times, but the flashlight didn’t turn on; it seemed to be broken.
Don’t be afraid, maybe they just went to the bathroom? Yun Meng told herself in her mind, trying to force herself to calm down, but her hands were trembling uncontrollably.
Just then, the door of the venting room at the end of the corridor suddenly opened, and a series of light footsteps came from inside. The sound grew clearer as it approached.
Several indistinct shadows began to outline in the darkness.
“Dear? Is it you guys?” Yun Meng asked softly, and soon saw the figures quickening their pace as they approached her.
They walked strangely, as if all their bones were broken, stumbling and swaying like they could fall at any moment.
Fear spread within Yun Meng, and as the figures drew closer and she could see them clearly, her mind felt like it short-circuited, buzzing.
Their somewhat bloated human forms were wrapped in grayish-white soft skin, and their appearances were painted with faces, eyes, noses, and strange smiling mouths.
The dolls were now just inches away. Yun Meng didn’t have time to think and turned to run down the other end of the corridor.
These dolls were indeed problematic!
Had they been attacked by these dolls?
What should I do?
In her panic, Yun Meng’s thoughts were like a tangle of wool, indistinguishable.
“Bang—Bang—Bang——!”
Just as she turned to flee, the doors of the venting room behind her were violently pushed open, slamming against the walls with a dull sound.
In the next moment, the sound of fabric tearing came, and she glanced back to see a terrifying scene.
The dolls’ limbs were torn apart, rotten hands and feet protruding from the moldy cotton as they leaned forward, running on all fours, their speed astonishing.
The distance between her and the dolls was visibly closing.
“Ah——!” An unprecedented fear made Yun Meng scream in terror, tears uncontrollably welling in her eyes, blurring her vision.
Soon, she had crossed the corridor and reached the stairs. A flicker of rationality stopped her at the foot of the stairs.
Upon seeing that the stairs leading to the third floor were also filled with dolls, her pupils constricted, and she turned to run up the stairs to the rooftop, quickly swallowed by the darkness.
…
In the Art Supplies Classroom.
Luxianbei stood with her arms crossed, watching Du Sixian gradually awaken in the storage locker. Tilting her head, she asked, “Awake? What were you thinking, encountering an urban legend and hiding in the locker?”
“Um…” Realizing she had narrowly escaped a disaster, Du Sixian was stunned for a moment, then weakly replied, “Hiding in the wardrobe when encountering an urban legend isn’t a common practice?”
“……”
Luxianbei pondered for a moment, quickly understanding where Du Sixian had learned this strange knowledge from. She facepalmed and sighed, “Ah, you learned that from horror games, didn’t you?”
“Um, yes.” Du Sixian replied, momentarily taken aback.
Luxianbei, “……” Seeking a sense of reality in games? Do you have a problem with your brain?
While Luxianbei was silent, Du Sixian noticed the paper scraps scattered on the floor and the big pits made by the Ming King Statue. She felt a surge of surprise.
“That urban legend… you killed it? How did you do that?”
Wasn’t it said that humans could not defeat urban legends? Du Sixian thought.
“Um…” Faced with Du Sixian’s question, Luxianbei didn’t know how to respond immediately.
How the hell did I k*ll it? I smashed it for ages, and it was like it had unlocked invincibility; it wouldn’t d*e. Then, for a brief moment of madness, it just disappeared.
How to explain this? The urban legend’s special ability expired, and I seized the opportunity to strike, and it died?
Wouldn’t that sound too ridiculous?
Luxianbei thought, stealing a glance at the scattered paper scraps on the floor, then clasping her hands behind her back, gazing up at a 45-degree angle as if reminiscing, she said lightly, “It was a terrifying battle. The strength of that urban legend… was not bad…”
Since the emotional state of the dead is stable, I can show off a bit; there shouldn’t be a problem. Luxianbei thought.
Du Sixian looked at that petite figure and suddenly felt her image had become much taller, her eyes sparkling with admiration.
She’s definitely super strong! No wonder I have my sights on this powerhouse! Du Sixian thought.
While Du Sixian was contemplating, Luxianbei had already walked to the window through which they had climbed in, pointing outside to the empty campus.
“I heard some unusual noises just now. Maybe your companions are in trouble. Let’s go out first, and then…”
“And then go save them?” Du Sixian interjected.
Luxianbei, “….” Save them? Who knows what trouble they’re in. What if it’s a ruthless and particularly difficult urban legend?
Going there now would just be asking for trouble!
Isn’t it time to think about leaving this haunted place?
Although Luxianbei had followed the girl entangled with urban legends into Shihhekou Middle School, she had not seen her after entering.
But now that she had obtained what she wanted, she just wanted to rush back and ask those folks in the apartment about the correct way to devour the core of the urban legend.
“You truly are a high person, always compassionate. Shall we set off now to save them?”
“I…” Luxianbei opened her mouth, I don’t want to go!
“By the way, things were urgent just now, and I didn’t have time to tell you; the price we discussed for the equipment is invalid now! I don’t want it anymore; let’s consider it a gift to you. We must maintain a good relationship and collaborate more in the future!”
“Um, this… that’s too gracious!” Luxianbei waved her hand, “What we do in our line of work, exorcising evil and rescuing people from danger, is part of our duties; how can I….”
Seeing Du Sixian frown and open her mouth to say something, Luxianbei quickly changed the subject, speaking first, “But if you insist on giving it to me, I can only accept it. No need for more words! Let’s go check it out first and then plan.”
Are you an idiot? Want to take back what you offered? Trust me, that’s not happening.
Actually, it’s okay to just go check; if anything dangerous arises, I can always come up with an excuse to run away with her. Luxianbei thought.
A high person is indeed a high person, treating money like dirt. I originally thought she’d refuse because I was offering too little, and I was even thinking about giving her something better! Du Sixian thought.
As Du Sixian stood up from the storage locker, a yellowed pink envelope was lifted up and fell to the ground with a soft sound.
“Clap—!”
Luxianbei’s attention was drawn to the soft sound. She walked over to pick up the envelope, examined it for a moment, and found a line of fine, small writing on the back.
【TO Zhao Ke. BY your loyal servant, Lin Yiqi】
Huh? What is this? Luxianbei frowned, wasn’t Lin Yiqi the girl from Zhao Ke’s diary who was currently toyed with by him? How did she suddenly become his servant?
What can I even say about this? The circle is really chaotic? My pure little male perspective is about to be shattered by you guys, d*mn it!
Seeing Luxianbei staring at the envelope in a daze, Du Sixian leaned over and examined the envelope in her hand, saying, “Oh? Didn’t expect it to be a love letter? A sweet high school romance? How interesting.”
Luxianbei glanced at Du Sixian, her expression inscrutable, “Take another good look at the signature, will you?”
“Fine, I’ll look.” Du Sixian pouted.
What kind of scenes have I not seen before? (×)
I actually haven’t seen this scene before. (√)
Even in a romantic relationship, referring to oneself as a “servant” shows some psychological issues. Upon considering the hidden implications, this isn’t just sweet; it’s a bit ambiguous.
Du Sixian thought, then quietly asked, “Should we open it and take a look? Although I know it’s not good to open someone else’s letters…”
Before Du Sixian could finish, Luxianbei nodded, “Then let’s take a look…”
After reading Zhao Ke’s diary, I’m actually quite curious what happened at this school that led to its closure.
Let’s see this so-called “love letter,” which might trigger that strange state again and allow us to see some special scenes? Luxianbei thought.
The envelope had already been opened. Luxianbei turned it around and gently shook it, causing a piece of letter paper to fall into her palm.
Unfolding the letter paper, Du Sixian’s handwriting appeared before her eyes.
【I’m sorry, it’s my fault, it’s all my fault, forgive me? This school is filled with demons, only you are different. I can’t be without you. I will be obedient; I will listen to you!
If you’re willing to forgive me, come to the venting room after evening self-study today; I will be waiting for you there.
If you don’t come, I’ll be waiting there forever.】
The content of the love letter came to an abrupt end. Luxianbei didn’t feel her eyes heat up and didn’t see any special scenes.
This ability really is unstable; when I want to see, it just won’t let me. Luxianbei silently complained, turning to look at Du Sixian.
“This school has a venting room? Do you know where it is?”
Venting rooms are quite common in universities, but she had never heard of high schools having them before.
“I don’t know.” Du Sixian shook her head. “But the Pharaoh, um, he’s the one who initiated this activity; he seems to have a map of this school. If we can find him, we’ll know where the venting room is.”
Luxianbei, “……” But I don’t really want to find him! I want to leave, and continuing to investigate this would only ensnare me deeper!
What excuse can I come up with to trick this girl into letting me off the hook while I leave quickly? Luxianbei thought.
