Chapter 105: The Love in the Fairy Tale Book
It was deep into the night, and the faint night color enveloped the palace.
Inside the bedroom, the candlelight flickered, illuminating Rast’s clear eyes.
He gently turned the pages of the fairy tale book in his hand, calmly narrating the contents of “Chronicles of Silver Wings.”
…
“‘Knight Lyle, have you lost your mind!’”
“‘It’s unknown how many lives have been taken, how many beings have been demonized, turning once-prosperous kingdoms into disaster zones… just by existing, she brings plague and d*ath to this world, the Plague Witch.’”
“‘And now, you actually stand on the opposite side for her.’”
“‘Have you forgotten the vow you made upon becoming a knight? To be a guardian of order, a friend of justice… to eradicate evil and eliminate disasters and plagues from this world!’”
“High in the distant sky, the magnificent and holy angel was enveloped in sunlight, six pairs of sacred wings wrapped in holy flames, casting a cold inquiry toward Lyle.”
“‘Will you betray us?’”
“However, facing the divine embodiment, the question of the Six-Winged Seraph, Lyle merely closed his eyes slightly.”
“He stepped forward, standing in front of the Plague Witch, who had been heavily injured by the Seraph and had fallen unconscious.”
“‘Yes, I have betrayed… the dreams and hopes I had when I became a knight.’”
“Lyle drew his silver sword, facing the distant Six-Winged Seraph and the holy coalition of the Church.”
“The blade of the silver sword tilted, reflecting a sharp cold light.”
“‘From now on—’”
“‘I will be the just partner who belongs only to the Plague Witch!’”
…
“Chronicles of Silver Wings”
Just as its retro title suggests, this storybook written during the golden age before the Catastrophic Era tells a rather classic story—
Lyle, a boy from a small town on the continent’s border, dreamed of becoming a just knight since childhood.
To achieve this dream, he trained diligently in knightly ways, and finally, during his coming-of-age ceremony, he received the blessing of the Church of Light… obtaining the qualification to become a knight.
All he needed to do was travel the continent and complete his pilgrimage to become a true Radiant Knight.
During his travels, Lyle encountered a girl who had lost her memory.
Out of the knightly virtue of compassion, Lyle decided to help the amnesiac girl regain her memories, and thus they journeyed together.
Through countless battles and adventures along the way, the bond between Lyle and the amnesiac girl rapidly deepened.
In the end, they fell in love.
However—
At the end of their journey, when the amnesiac girl finally regained her memories…
Lyle learned that the true identity of this girl, who had lost her memory, was actually a wanted person of the Church of Light, the Plague Witch, who had once brought immense disasters to the continent, causing countless kingdoms to suffer.
From then on, the plot began to take a rapid descent.
The Church of Light became aware of the Plague Witch’s whereabouts and dispatched the Six-Winged Seraph and the Judgment Knights to pursue her.
What Rast was narrating now was the climax of “Chronicles of Silver Wings.”
After a painful struggle and inner turmoil, the protagonist, Lyle…
Ultimately chose to follow the most genuine voice within his heart.
He betrayed the Church and swung his sword at the Six-Winged Seraph, the representative of the God of Light.
He stood guard in front of the witch, who was deeply despaired and severely injured by the Seraph.
“And then?”
As if Rast’s narration paused slightly, small ice-blue words appeared in the air before him.
Beside Rast, Her Majesty the Queen of this kingdom—Helen sat, holding a pillow, quietly listening with her head tilted on the soft, white bed.
Helen’s mother, the former Queen of the Underworld, left her many fairy tale books, but Helen’s favorite was only “Chronicles of Silver Wings.”
From a young age, listening to her mother tell bedtime stories from the book while lying in bed, to later reading it repeatedly, and now having Rast read it to her… Helen had heard this story many times, yet she still listened intently.
And she was indeed a good listener; even though she already knew the developments of the story, she still tilted her head and asked, “And then?”
Rast turned the rough pages of the book again and continued the narration.
After the climactic battle with the divine embodiment, the Six-Winged Seraph, the plot of “Chronicles of Silver Wings” developed logically.
The protagonist, Lyle, discovered through secret investigations that the witch’s amnesia had actually been orchestrated by a hidden instigator within the Church of Light, aiming to seize the witch’s powers.
Lyle, facing numerous hardships, finally defeated the seemingly holy but ambitious Cardinal, thwarting his plot.
But at the same time, due to various coincidences, the female protagonist became battered by memories of her past life and began to forget her loved ones, losing control of the Plague Witch’s powers.
Thus—
It came to the conclusion of “Chronicles of Silver Wings.”
With the help of the Abyssal beings who had been secretly imprisoned and exploited by the Church but were rescued by Lyle…
Lyle broke through the corrupting power of the plague and approached the out-of-control witch… and confessed his feelings to her.
In the confession, the power of love broke through the shackles, creating a miracle.
The out-of-control witch remembered all the moments of meeting and getting to know Lyle during their travels across the continent, and regained herself.
“‘But I am the embodiment of plague; I will bring d*ath and disaster to this world,’” the awakened witch trembled as she looked at the bloodied Lyle.
“‘Don’t say such things; it doesn’t matter!’”
“‘The lives of all beings, the rules and order of the world… at this moment, none of them matter more than you in my eyes.’”
“‘I have said that I betrayed the oath I took when I became a knight; I will only be your just partner!’”
“Lyle’s voice was weak, yet every word was clear: ‘If one day your power once again goes out of control and is rejected by the secular world, then let me accompany you into the abyss to face the darkness and eternal night.’”
“‘If the Church wants to judge you, then I will be enemies with the Church!’”
“‘If the deity wants to k*ll you, then it must step over my corpse!’”
…
“Later, ten years passed.”
“In a lush and seldom-trodden forest on the border of the continent, Lyle and the Plague Witch built a small wooden house.”
“And the two eventually tied the knot and had children…”
“They lived happily forever in that small house in the forest.”
“Through the dense forest, the sound of the family’s laughter could often be heard.”
“The end of the book.”
Rast gently closed the “Chronicles of Silver Wings.”
The back page of the book also featured a simple illustration similar to its cover.
Just like every adventure game’s concluding CG—
Under the glow of the sunset, the young knight in silver armor hugs the witch shrouded in black mist tightly, everything appeared beautifully breathtaking.
One couldn’t help but exclaim with pleasure, “The end, throw flowers!”
