Chapter 52: Subjugation of the Goddess of Torment!
The absorption of power by deities is related to compatibility.
Some divine professions can be fully absorbed by Soren, while for others, he can only absorb a small portion, or at most grasp the most basic domain abilities.
What just transpired was truly astonishing!
The divine power that Soren did not absorb was partially taken in by the Fallen Witch, Corinna, along with the divine and divine power from the Goddess of Toxicity, Talona, that merged into her body. Observing from his current saint form, Soren noted that the divine power absorbed by the Fallen Witch, which she herself was unaware of, was enough for her to advance to the [Demigod] form.
Why did this happen?
Even Soren was unsure and could not determine if the Fallen Witch was more aligned with the [Disease] divine profession or the [Toxicity] divine profession.
The Saint’s Cataclysm is a disaster.
This is undoubtedly true, but the Saint’s Cataclysm is also a time full of infinite possibilities, as many mortals indeed ascend to godhood during this period. There are always a few lucky ones who can connect with the powers of deities, and there have even been cases where mortals were directly struck by fragments of divine power that fell from the heavens.
Undoubtedly!
The Fallen Witch is now one of those fortunate individuals!
………………
The d*ath of the Goddess of Toxicity directly led to the collapse of the Blighted One, and the Goddess of Torment appeared to be unable to hold out any longer.
Soren killed Talona, and now, if he joined forces with the Princess, Lavita would probably not last even a moment longer. Thus, this goddess of the Lawful Evil Faction decisively created distance and, to the astonishment of the Princess, knelt before Soren on one knee, exclaiming, “Great Lord of Shadows!”
“I am willing to serve you as my master!”
“I once served the God of Slaughter, Baal!… You possess His bloodline power!… Please accept my allegiance!… ”
“I am willing to dedicate everything I have to you!… ”
Completely out of the blue.
What was happening before him surprised even Soren; he never expected Lavita to surrender so easily after her ally’s d*ath.
As expected of a deity from the Lawful Evil Faction, upon sensing something off, she knelt without hesitation.
The Goddess of Torment, Lavita, instantly wanted to serve Soren as her master, causing the Princess to temporarily stop her attack, preparing to see how Soren would handle the situation.
Faced with this development, Soren was also somewhat taken aback.
However, he quickly calmed down and said, “Surely, you did not just serve the God of Slaughter, Baal? You have also served the Tyrant God, Bane, the Lady of the Night, Shar, and the Demon God of Fear!… ”
“You have served such deities.”
“How can I trust your loyalty?…”
Upon hearing Soren’s words, Lavita’s expression stiffened. As one of the Dark Gods, she had indeed served numerous deities, but she was a standard pragmatist and supremacist; when the God of Slaughter fell, she did not hesitate to betray him, and when the Tyrant God failed, she also betrayed without hesitation.
Her past experiences determined that Soren could not trust this evil goddess.
“I… I can make an oath of the River of Underworld!…”
The Goddess of Torment, Lavita pondered and gritted her teeth, saying, “In the name of the True God, in the name of the Soul, I vow!…”
Soren, upon hearing this, felt no joy, but rather frowned, saying, “Not enough. I need your Soul Mark!… If you can manage that, I will accept your allegiance!”
The Soul Mark.
This was harsher than the oath of the River of Underworld; the former would only cost a great price in the event of betrayal, while the latter nearly meant that Lavita would become Soren’s personal slave.
Sure enough!
Lavita immediately refused without hesitation, but the Princess, seeing her refusal, immediately attacked again, causing the Goddess of Torment to panic. It seemed Soren had no intention of accepting her allegiance, and if she did not present her Soul Mark at this moment, she might truly meet her demise here today.
To fight tooth and nail? Or to desperately survive?
Without much time to think, the Goddess of Torment, Lavita, quickly made her decision, saying solemnly, “Great Lord of Shadows! If I give you my Soul Mark, can you guarantee my status and power?”
As expected of a deity from the Lawful Evil Faction.
At this moment, she was still considering her future status and power. Soren quickly replied, his voice steady, “I will grant you the status of a subordinate deity and will not strip you of any of your powers or abilities! But you must serve me completely! Otherwise, I will give you severe punishment!”
“In the name of the River of Underworld!”
As a deity from the Lawful Faction, both Soren’s and Lavita’s oaths carried weight.
After hesitating and struggling for a while, the Goddess of Torment finally spoke, “Alright. I am willing to exchange my Soul Mark for your trust!…”
A glimmer of golden divine light appeared.
A smile finally appeared on Soren’s face as he directly gathered this golden glow into his hand, and after confirming there were no issues, he injected his divine mark into it. From now on, the Goddess of Torment, Lavita, would effectively become his private servant, with her life and d*ath completely under his control. However, since she was still a true goddess, Soren had to show her sufficient respect; at the very least, her status as a subordinate goddess must be preserved.
Dealing with evil gods is always much easier than dealing with those from the Good Faction.
Once the Soul Mark was completed, the Goddess of Torment, Lavita, quickly adapted to her new identity and directly commanded all her believers to abandon resistance, telling them that she had become a subordinate deity of the God of Shadows.
Everything was so dramatic!
The foes who had just been fighting fiercely suddenly became allies, as the Goddess of Torment, Lavita, served Soren as her master, and her church naturally became a subordinate church under Soren. From now on, Lavita’s identity would be that of a subordinate deity to Soren, and her church would obey his control and commands.
All in all, the final outcome was quite good.
The followers of Torment, who had previously believed they were doomed to extinction, quickly accepted their new identity. Since even their deity shamelessly surrendered and became a subordinate deity of another, what was there for these mortals to worry about?
Surrendering to a strong individual is not a shameful thing!
The surrender of the Goddess of Torment, Lavita, yielded returns for Soren that were somewhat unexpected, as this meant he would have a demigod goddess under his command, who could be driven to whip whenever he pleased. However, it also indicated that Vivian’s divine profession remained unestablished for the time being, and he would have to think of other ways to find a suitable divine profession for the little girl.
