“Uh!…”
Soren’s expression was hesitant. From his personal perspective, it was very necessary for Vivian to familiarize herself with combat, as an unprecedented chaotic period was approaching, and she needed to master some self-defense skills. However, from a personal standpoint, Soren was reluctant to let her take risks and felt it was too early, after all, she had just turned eight this year.
Letting an eight-year-old girl fight?
Gloria seemed to understand Soren’s hesitation. After glancing at the others, she whispered, “Vivian. Show them your spell.”
The little girl nodded and looked around, softly saying, “Can I cast it here?”
Gloria raised her hand to set up a magical barrier and then pointed to the wall, saying, “Cast it over there.”
Vivian nodded gently. Then, under the incredulous gazes of the others, she pointed her hand directly at the wall, and an Arcane Missile appeared at her fingertip. Without incantation or gestures, the Arcane Missile instantly struck the wall, leaving a three-centimeter deep dent. But this was just the beginning, as ‘BIU, BIU, BIU’ sounds of magical light emerged, and a total of eight Arcane Missiles were launched consecutively. The first four created a hole in the wall, while the last four struck the ground outside, leaving dents over ten centimeters deep.
“Instantaneous spell!?”
Soren’s expression was instantly remarkable, nearly unbelievable. Although Vivian didn’t utter any incantations, she managed to cast spells four times in a row, and the power of the eight Arcane Missiles was equivalent to a higher-level Secondary Missile Storm. Soren silently calculated his abilities and unexpectantly discovered he would have no chance to retaliate against Vivian; he could be heavily injured by her four consecutive Arcane Missiles in just one second!
How could this be possible!!!
How did my sister become someone I can’t even defeat?
Soren’s expression became somewhat dazed. The halfling’s mouth was agape enough to fit an apple, while a trace of pride appeared at the corner of Gloria’s mouth as she slowly said, “Due to time constraints, Vivian has only learned one or two simple spells. But with her innate talents, it’s quite easy for her to deal with ordinary enemies.”
“When casting Arcane Missiles, her abilities surpass even mine; I must say she is a genius!”
Missile Storm Rampage.
This was once a prevalent combat method among wizards. It merely required a prerequisite specialty, Mastery of Spellcasting.
Arcane Missile is the fastest casting spell; no other spell can surpass it, as it requires only one second to cast. This battle method requires extensive training in the Mastery of Spellcasting specialty but has no other requirements, commonly referred to as the mindless ‘BIUBIUBIU’ tactical strategy.
A 9th-level wizard can have four 1st-level spell slots, and one Arcane Missile can condense five energy orbs. That means one can unleash 20 energy missiles in just one second, equivalent to a maximally effective 4th-circle spell, Secondary Missile Storm. If combined with the Spell Amplification specialty, one can memorize all 1st-level Arcane Missiles in 2nd-level spell slots. Additionally, when paired with the Spell Mastery specialty, one can memorize all 1st-level Arcane Missiles in 3rd-level spell slots.
If there is also the Spell Instant casting specialty, 4th-level spell slots can also be used to memorize Arcane Missiles.
These three Spell Mastery specialties are used to enhance spell power but require increased spellcasting capabilities and levels. To amplify the effect of a 1st-level spell, a 2nd-level spell slot is required for memorization; to maximize the effect requires a 3rd-level spell slot. To turn a spell into instantaneous casting requires a 4th-level spell slot.
The legendary mindless Missile Storm technique is such an extreme combat method.
Wizards using this combat style are extremely aggressive yet also extremely fragile; their explosive lethality can be terrifying, but their sustained combat ability is quite poor.
They were once jokingly referred to as “men whose combat power lasts only one second!”
For a long time, wizards using this combat method would determine victory or defeat in just one second—either they would utterly annihilate enemies with their Missile Storm or be instantly bested by their foes, losing their spellcasting ability.
Very powerful yet very fragile.
Best suited for single opponents, they become ineffective against two.
The lethality of Arcane Missiles is relatively limited, capable of being mitigated by physical damage reduction. If the spell’s strength isn’t high, one Arcane Missile deals a maximum of 5 points of damage; twenty Arcane Missiles would result in 100 points of damage. Warriors above level 10 typically have hundreds of hit points, and with armor and shields, they can block at least 5-10 Arcane Missiles. Therefore, to use the Missile Storm tactic to k*ll high-level warriors, one must fully memorize Arcane Missiles in the subsequent spell slots.
This combat method is difficult to define.
Since there are spells that can neutralize the energy of Arcane Missiles, such as Shield, and many pieces of equipment can reduce spell damage, suppressing explosive power by over 50%. There are also skills that can avoid damage, such as the thief’s Shadow Travel; as long as one avoids that one second of time, they won’t take any damage.
Soren found it hard to assess the effectiveness of this combat method, but it was excellent for ambushing.
Of course, after the encounter, they would have no combat power left.
………………
“Hmm.”
Vivian withdrew her fair little finger and timidly glanced at Soren, whispering, “I’m out of spells. I only have one 2nd-circle spell left.”
That’s right.
It was just a matter of one second.
Vivian used up her 1st-circle spells and made a hole in the wall, leaving a ten-centimeter deep dent on the ground. Her powerful innate traits granted her high spell strength, and when paired with the Spellcasting Genius specialty, the power of her Arcane Missiles was approaching that of a 3rd-tier wizard, although she didn’t have their quantity. In the future, as her profession level increases, the number of Arcane Missiles she can cast will expand to five, the maximum number for a spell.
“Oh my gosh!” The halfling reached out to touch the hole in the wall and peeked at the dent outside, muttering, “I can’t believe I couldn’t survive even one second against a little girl!”
“Should I go back to farming?”
It seemed not just Soren who was impacted; even the halfling beside him was shocked.
Dodge an Arcane Missile is about as difficult as dodging a b*llet; it’s very hard for non-legend rank professionals to achieve. Although most of their spell slots were used up in one go, such lethality could not even be endured by Soren and the halfling beside him. In just half a month, Vivian surprisingly gained the ability to heavily injure or even instantly k*ll them!
Soren fell into silence.
He didn’t know how to evaluate Vivian’s combat power. Calling it powerful seemed accurate due to its astonishing explosive strength, but it’s a single-strike combat style—after using her spells, she’d just be a bystander. On the other hand, it wasn’t considered weak; with proper timing, she could inflict severe injuries or even k*ll an enemy, which could be crucial for saving the world.
In the past, wizards with this combat style evoked mixed feelings in people; many hesitated whether to cooperate with them.
They scared people during their explosive moments but then needed protection for spell memorization afterward.
—Repair Spell.
Gloria lightly waved her hand, restoring the damaged wall, then glanced at Soren, slowly saying, “With Vivian’s abilities, she should be able to help. After all, she’s not an ordinary child; you need to let her learn and engage with more things. This can help train her willpower and will be beneficial for her future path.”
Soren continued to remain silent.
After a long period of silence, he sighed and said, “Alright. This time, let Vivian join us, but you must ensure her safety.”
The little girl’s face instantly lit up with a joyful and excited smile as she lunged into Soren’s embrace, clinging to him like a koala, giving him a kiss on the cheek and cheerfully saying, “Brother is the best! Vivian will be very obedient and won’t run off.”
Gloria nodded seriously and then beckoned the little girl over to attach a delicate badge to her chest, whispering a few words in her ear. As a high-level Northern Witch, Gloria clearly knew the drawbacks of this combat method, but it was undoubtedly the most suitable combat style for the little girl. After all, at her current age, she couldn’t cast many techniques utilized by wizards. High-level spellcasters’ combat styles require not only extensive knowledge but also very rich experience.
Now she should focus on familiarizing herself with some simple and aggressive combat methods!
Thus, the matter was settled.
A little girl had been added to Soren’s combat lineup; though she seemed inconspicuous, she was truly not to be underestimated!
