Chapter 139: Domain of Eternal Sleep! [Request for Recommendation Votes]
A gray wasteland.
It seemed as if some terrifying power had drained all vitality from this place; all the grass and trees had withered, and even the soil was shrouded in a decaying aura.
This place had clearly just experienced a battle, with many corpses of necromancers nearby, along with some individuals dressed in strange long robes, marked with the emblem of a “golden scale supported by arm bones.” These people were priests serving the King of the Dead – Klanvor, who had just gone through a great war but still loyally guarded one of their own. That was a young warrior, handsome and calm, wielding a heavy sword and wearing special armor. In front of them was a group of individuals attempting to retreat, led by a figure cloaked in gray, whose pale fingers gripped a staff, enveloped in a strong aura of corruption.
“Vishalon!”
The young man stepped forward slowly, saying, “You cannot escape now.”
——Lich God – Vishalon!
Soren had once tracked the traces but had never been able to find this god, whose fall was tied to the God of Mages. Ultimately, Soren had traced back to the God of Prophecy – Saphiras, only to be led to the territory of the Ancient Red Dragon.
Surrounding Lich God – Vishalon were his fanatics, mostly necromancers, along with two powerful liches. The divine profession of the Lich God encompassed necromancy, necromancers, evil liches, and the undead. He was one of the most hated enemies of the God of Death System because he and his followers often disturbed the peace of the deceased.
Vishalon was nothing more than a skeleton; a cunning god, who had begun his divine saga by dodging punishment among many deities.
He used the power of the Goddess to escape the wrath of the Lord of Storms and secretly colluded with the Lady of the Night to serve her while secretly trying to curry favor with the Lord of Storms again. At this moment, the followers surrounding him had dwindled in number, far fewer than the priests in front of him, yet his expression remained calm, with the fire of souls in his pupils flickering slightly as he said slowly, “Naive Klanvor! Do you think this will kill me?”
“You have already fallen into our trap.”
Klanvor calmly listened to his words and then stepped forward slowly, saying, “I know. If there were no trap, how would you, a deity with weak divine power, dare to appear before me?”
“Let me guess who is plotting against me? God of Death – Naraku!”
All the gods knew that the King of the Dead – Klanvor had long wanted to reclaim the power of the God of Death System, and the Lich God was one of the thieves involved, having evaded Klanvor for hundreds of years. The fact that he dared to appear before him now surely meant he had some sort of backing.
Vishalon chuckled, “So you know it is a trap yet still dare to come; I didn’t expect you to be so arrogant!”
As his words fell, a strange figure appeared near the wasteland. He wore a tattered black cloak, his upper body a pale skeleton, holding a massive scythe of the God of Death, and a terrifying pressure enveloped the surrounding space. Even without speaking, everyone recognized his presence, for this stench of hatred towards life could only belong to one god: the God of Death – Naraku.
“Narak!”
The King of the Dead – Klanvor’s expression grew serious as he said in a low voice, “This is not the world of Greyhawk; do you really intend to involve yourself in the conflicts of gods in this world?”
The Material Plane is not just one.
While the God of Death – Naraku had some following in this world, his core faith resided in a material kingdom named Greyhawk. The world he ultimately chose to descend into clearly had a scheme behind it. Within the multiverse, there are numerous material planes, large and small, scattered with many deities, their faith spread across many places. Among these deities, one particularly special figure is the Spider Queen, as almost all worlds inhabited by Drow contain her worship, and her limited number of followers are spread across the majority of material planes.
Unfortunately, her faith is limited by race; the strength of her worship within a plane is entirely determined by the size of the Drow population.
“You do not deserve to dominate death!”
Naraku’s voice carried a decaying aura, as if seeking to end everything, his voice hoarse: “Your weak doctrine is nothing more than a blasphemy against death!”
Klanvor’s doctrine is very gentle.
The realm he presides over is eternal sleep; the church upholds the peace of the deceased and maintains an antagonistic relationship with the majority of evil faction necromancers and liches. Klanvor has always opposed the rebirth of the dead, believing that those who have died should follow their predetermined path and should not be awakened to linger in the world.
To some extent, most masters of death harbor hostility toward him!
Even with the appearance of the God of Death – Naraku, Klanvor showed no signs of fear, for he is the King of the Dead and a deity with strong divine power.
Naraku possesses medium divine power.
Vishalon possesses weak divine power.
Even combined, these two deities cannot match his strength, which is why Klanvor, knowing there is a trap, dares to come. He does not want to miss the opportunity to end the Lich God; killing the Lich God would significantly reduce his enemies while regaining some of the power of death.
The scythe of the God of Death sliced through the void.
Amidst the overwhelming divine power, the heavy sword in Klanvor’s palm was enveloped in dark power, directly blocking the opponent’s attack. Some translucent, similarly wielding scythes appeared; these were his reaper servants. Knowing it was a trap, he certainly wouldn’t come alone. He had gathered almost all of his power for this expedition, preparing to eliminate both opponents of the God of Death System in one fell swoop.
“*Cackle!* …”
With just one clash, the God of Death Naraku was forced back. He said in a hoarse voice: “No wonder you are the King of the Dead! Such divine power is indeed not something we can face alone!”
“However.”
“What you have to face is not just us two.”
Hearing Naraku’s words, Klanvor couldn’t help but furrow his brow; the situation seemed to exceed his expectations. He thought the Lich God was only colluding with the God of Death – Naraku, but at the moment they had just exchanged blows, some decaying, evil auras also appeared in the wasteland.
Unbeknownst to him, the entire wasteland was now filled with various powerful undead.
——“Undead – Owwo!”
A terrifying lich, holding a staff, appeared on the battlefield. He gazed at Klanvor with icy pupils, not concealing his disgust and hatred.
——“Sazastan!”
The leader of the Red Robe Wizards, who once ruled the Torrey region, an evil lich, with many red-robed wizards behind him.
——“King of the Undead – Orcus!”
As the aura of evil emanating from the Bottomless Abyss spread, the large, corpulent figure of Orcus appeared, his eyes filled with madness as he stared at Klanvor.
One powerful undead after another appeared.
These undead were at least of high-level legend strength, with many powerful demigod liches among them. They were all lords of death lurking in the lower planes. From the spirit realm to the underworld, from the gray wastelands to the bottomless abyss, evil and terrifying undead creatures infested every corner of the lower planes.
These were all Klanvor’s enemies!
From the very beginning, his doctrine had violated the will of these undead lords. If it weren’t for the outbreak of the Saint’s Cataclysm, any one of these undead lords would be no match for Klanvor, but now, with the outbreak of the Saint’s Cataclysm, even a deity of strong divine power like Klanvor was significantly weakened.
This gave the undead lords before him a chance to fight him!
Hundreds of liches appeared before him, coming from more than a dozen different planes and half-planes, the horrifying aura of winter ghosts also emerged. For any undead, the King of the Dead is a feared enemy. And the divine powers and divine professions that the King of the Dead possesses are also what they most desire. The God of Death – Naraku’s scheme is to use their hostility towards Klanvor; over the course of thousands of years, Klanvor’s church and doctrine have offended countless powerful undead. If it weren’t for the influence of the God of Death – Ye Ge behind him, he probably would not have been able to stabilize his position as the King of the Dead.
Klanvor’s expression finally grew grave.
Without the Saint’s Cataclysm, in his true god form, he would face so many enemies without any fear, but now he was only in saint form. Even as the god presiding over death, he might not be able to withstand so many enemies.
However, at this moment, he had no way out.
The God of Death – Naraku had sealed off all space, and all he could do was fight with all his might!
………………
October was about to arrive.
Soren had stayed in Arendelle for seven days, and when he returned to Modo, it was already close to October.
Gloria welcomed his return and brought good news from the Fallen Witch. But before Soren could feel joy, he looked up in shock towards the sky.
In a realm unseen by mortals, the stars representing the King of the Dead – Klanvor dimmed.
As if some limitations were lifted, the aura of death throughout the material plane suddenly intensified, and with the subtle fluctuations of elemental tides, an aura filled with decay, corruption, and death began to spread gradually.
Something had happened to Klanvor!
Although he had not yet fallen, his state seemed even more serious than the last disappearance of the Goddess!
Because the Domain of Eternal Sleep, shrouded over the material plane and controlled by the King of the Dead – Klanvor, was gradually decaying and fading. Since Klanvor ascended to godhood, the Domain of Eternal Sleep had enveloped the material plane, making the chances of undead revival far lower than in other worlds, and now the Domain of Eternal Sleep was gradually dissipating.
