Chapter 167: High-Level Artifact – Crown of Horns! [Request for Monthly Ticket]

Author: Floating Tower

Soren’s power partly comes from the Three Death Deities!

He is very sensitive to the powers of these three powerful evil gods, almost instantly sensing a strong reaction when they unleash some form of malevolent black fire.

“What is this power?”

Soren frowned as he stared at the Dragon Witch Sect member in front of him. Under the terrifying black fire, the life force of the silver dragon, Alexandrina, rapidly weakened, as if the flames were directly igniting her life, continuously burning her vitality. This power comes from the former King of the Dead, Myrkul, a flame of the God of Death System, possessing terrifying lethality against any being, much like the famous ‘Silver Fire’ of the Goddess of Magic.

Soren seemed to recall something, exclaiming in surprise, “Crown of Horns?”

Undoubtedly.

Myrkul among the Three Death Deities has absolutely fallen.

He died a long time ago, his divine profession long inherited by someone else, and most of his power should have dissipated.

So, in the case that he has already fallen, what could still unleash his divine power?

An artifact!

And it must be a high-level artifact!

An artifact that disappeared from the Material Plane surfaced in Soren’s memory, one obtained and taken out by a legendary figure.

— “Crown of Horns!”

This is an artifact that retains a part of the divine nature and intelligence of Myrkul, the former God of Death. It is a silver headband set with a black diamond, from which four bony spikes extend, the diamond flashing with strange radiance.

The Crown of Horns is an evil item with self-awareness, its sole purpose in the world is to incessantly spread evil and suffering.

This artifact was crafted long ago when Myrkul still possessed godly power. Although it was eventually shattered by the Black Staff, Kaelbon, these fragments still retain some power. When Myrkul was killed by Midnight (the later Goddess of Magic), he used his nearly extinguished power to breach the layers of defenses surrounding the Black Staff Tower, to reforge the fragments of the Crown of Horns, and poured his remaining divinity into it before teleporting away. For a long time, this silver crown delighted in controlling humans to attack and destroy the church of Sherek and its believers, but would go out of its way to avoid Kaelbon’s allies and the temple of the Goddess Mystra.

This artifact preserves the most essence of Myrkul’s divine power.

It contains the secrets of death, preserving the most evil negative energy fire of death, capable of instantly killing mortals and incessantly eroding the life of divine beings.

“This artifact is still preserved!”

Soren’s heart began to stir. Legend has it that Myrkul infused his final divinity and power into it before his death. This divine power of death is extremely useful to Soren. If he could obtain this artifact and extract its power, he might be able to comprehend the divine profession of death.

— “Shadow Plane!”

In the next moment, Soren vanished from his place.

He did not intend to save the silver dragon Alexandrina in front of him, but he was determined to obtain this artifact left behind by the former God of Death!

— “Time Stop!”

— “Divine Power Shockwave!”

The wounds of the silver dragon Alexandrina became increasingly severe, and death seemed imminent.

She couldn’t help but recall her past, a young silver dragon soaring at the peak of the Cloud Mist Mountain, as Alexandrina sensed the approach of death, which made her feel very unwilling. Therefore, she prayed to the deity for help. The next moment, it was as if the deity answered her prayer, as everything around seemed to freeze.

A silver-white stream of light flashed!

In an instant, the dragon lich before her was cleaved in two by an unimaginably terrifying power, a force that mortals could not fathom. She had never seen anything that could so easily kill a dragon lich.

She thought it was the Forest Goddess arriving.

However, immediately afterwards, Alexandrina sensed an even more terrifying evil aura!

Soren’s figure flashed through the space.

In an instant, after unleashing sixteen sword strikes to slay a dragon lich, he locked onto the other wizards.

— “Divine Power Dispersion!”

Layers of protective spells shattered like eggshells as Soren wielded the silver-white stream of light, piercing into the lich’s body. In the moment of destroying the opponent’s shell, the powerful divine power crossed space to obliterate the opponent’s life box with death.

It seemed only to have passed a second.

When Alexandrina’s consciousness gradually returned, all the enemies before her had turned into cold corpses.

And before this silver dragon stood a terrifying, emaciated figure. Even just standing there casually made her soul tremble.

An evil god!

A truly terrifying evil god!

Although he had not looked at her even once, Alexandrina felt breathless, not daring to move at all.

Soren ignored Alexandrina behind him.

He gently waved his hand, and a crown flew out from the remains of the lich in front of him. The moment it fell into his hand, the crown trembled violently as if struggling, accompanied by some kind of bizarre, terrified cry. But all its struggles were in vain; Soren easily suppressed its power.

— “Crown of Horns!”

A high-level artifact created by Myrkul, it bestows the following abilities:

“Possesses fear aura equivalent to that of a lich.”

“When resisting necromancy spells and magical effects, has spell resistance 25.”

“Has the ability to rebuke or command undead creatures equivalent to a 6th-level priest. If the ability is already possessed, it can stack with the priest level.”

“Can cast 1 teleportation spell per day with certainty, limited to teleporting the wearer and their equipment.”

“Death Light: Can be cast once every 10 minutes, with an area of effect of a 40 ft cone. All creatures within this cone must succeed on a DC 20 fortitude save, or immediately die and transform into a bound spirit under the wearer’s control after 1d4 rounds. Success on the save results in 3d6+20 damage. This is a necromancy instant death effect.”

“Myrkul’s Hand: Once per day, the wearer can envelop one of their hands with black flames. Using these black flames counts as a touch spell. When the wearer successfully hits a target with a melee touch attack, the target must succeed on a DC 25 fortitude save, or immediately die and transform into a ghost under the wearer’s control after 1d4 rounds.”

A truly high-level artifact.

It is itself a very terrifying item, with Myrkul infusing it with the divine power of death, offering not only the terrifying black fire but also the Death Light that can be used every 10 minutes, causing any being killed to become a bound spirit.

This is an artifact that can easily create an Undead Army!

However.

This high-level artifact is also cursed, affecting anyone who wears it:

“The wearer’s faction will immediately change to neutral evil.”

“Unless Myrkul consents, the crown cannot be removed. The only way to remove the crown is for it to teleport away itself.”

“The Crown of Horns can cast suggestion on the wearer once per day, controlling their consciousness.”

“The wearer will gradually transform into an undead creature under a curse lasting up to two years. Each use of the Death Light and Myrkul’s Hand accelerates this process by 1-4 months. Upon completion of the transformation, the wearer’s appearance and creature type will become that of an undead creature, but they will still retain normal abilities. If the Crown of Horns leaves the transformed wearer, they will immediately perish.”

“The wearer will become highly suspicious and will strive to protect and possess the Crown of Horns, preventing others from taking it away.”

“When the Crown of Horns is worn, all creatures within 100 feet of the crown must succeed on a will save, or be affected by the resonance effect.”

………………

The residual consciousness of Myrkul emitted a terrified scream.

He sensed Soren’s power and was filled with immense fear, trying to escape, but had no means to do so; he was already suppressed by Soren’s divine power.

“Is this the Crown of Horns?”

Soren gazed at the crown before him, muttering to himself, “Its abilities are somewhat similar to those of the magic rings I made.”

He created seven magic rings in the Bottomless Abyss.

All of them ranged from inferior artifacts to high-level legendary items, also possessing suggestion and control spells, similar in effect to the Crown of Horns but lacking its overwhelming additional abilities.

Soren took a deep breath, then closed his eyes, sensing some kind of power, murmuring, “Death!”

“The residual power of the divine nature of death!”

“It seems I really have to thank you! Myrkul! Now you can die completely!”
