Chapter 110: Dragon Pulse Sorcerer
In a dimly lit room, Soren cautiously took out the heavy stone. Vivian had been following Gloria lately and was being taught knowledge by the Northern Witch every night. Perhaps she sensed something, as the little girl was clearly working much harder than before. Gloria’s personal collection of books was nearly finished, and at this pace, she would soon become a qualified wizard. Soren believed it was a good thing for the little girl to learn more, as finding a high-level witch for instruction wasn’t easy.
He held the heavy stone in his palm and tried to identify it. Soon, a row of data appeared:
“Item Type: Elemental Crystal (Earth)
Item Level: [First-Stage Legendary Item]
Item Description: A special treasure from the Earth Elemental Plane, formed from the essence of the earth, imbued with special magic, and can cast powerful spells when activated. It seems not to be a standalone item, as the patterns on the edges suggest it was once part of something larger.
Equipment Requirement: None.
Special Effects: Summon Earth Elemental (1 time/7 days), Stone Skin Spell (1 time/3 days).”
…
First-stage legendary equipment.
A smile crept onto Soren’s lips. After such a long time, he finally acquired his first legendary equipment. Gear that can enhance attributes was extremely rare in this world; most equipment generated additional effects or could cast certain spells. For instance, most wands used by wizards could not enhance their spell intensity, and the most common effect was to store spells. Gloria had a wand in her dimensional bag that stored spells.
Wands could be used more times than spell scrolls but could not store higher-level spells.
A simple rule to measure whether an item is legendary is that legendary items can automatically restore their spellcasting uses. They also have lower usage requirements. A wand without the corresponding specialty cannot be activated, but many legendary items can activate their powers even without spellcasting ability. Soren also had a withered wooden staff in his dimensional bag, a wand-like weapon that had spells with defined usage counts attached to it.
However, legendary equipment did not have such a usage limit; many legendary items could automatically recover over time.
“Summon Earth Elemental.”
Soren gently stroked the smooth stone, murmuring, “This seems to be a sixth-ring spell. Although it can only be used once every seven days, it’s enough for many situations.”
The biological level of the Earth Elemental was around 15, and summoning one as an assistant would have a significant impact.
Just looking at how Soren fought for half a day, one could understand how strong their meat shield capability was. This thing could go toe-to-toe with an iron golem for quite a while.
The second usable spell was ‘Stone Skin’, one of the wizards’ primary defensive spells!
If the Mage Armor can block one or two attacks, then the Stone Skin spell allows the wizard to stand in a crowd while being surrounded and attacked. The protective strength of Mage Armor is at most a few dozen points; high-level Mage Armor might only reach a little over a hundred. However, Stone Skin can absorb over 150 points of physical damage. Given Soren’s current full-power strike at around thirty points of damage, he would need at least four or five hits to break through the protective energy of Stone Skin.
However, Stone Skin has a drawback; it reduces agility after being applied. The agility will decrease by about 2 points.
Because it is not an energy field like Mage Armor, Stone Skin can be broken with high-intensity attacks but can significantly reduce the damage taken.
“Summon Earth Elemental [Sixth-Ring Spell]: After casting the spell, a portal connecting to the Earth Elemental Plane will open, summoning an Earth Elemental with a basic life number of 12. There is a 10% chance of summoning an advanced Earth Elemental with a basic life number of 16, a 5% chance of summoning an elite Earth Elemental with a basic life number of 20, and a 1% chance of summoning an Earth Elemental Lord or Earth Elemental Elder.
Upon a successful casting, the Earth Elemental has a 10% chance to attack the caster, who must complete a willpower check to successfully control the Earth Elemental. The Earth Elemental will act according to the caster’s will. The difficulty of the willpower check is determined by the Earth Elemental’s level. The higher the Earth Elemental’s rank, the more likely it is to trigger the willpower check.”
…
The basic life number is the minimum health value for each level. If the life number is 12, then with 10 biological levels, it will have at least 120 health points. Soren’s Wanderer class has a basic life number of 6, while the Wizard class has a basic life number of 4. Therefore, if a basic life number of 20 points of Earth Elemental is summoned, it could withstand a giant dragon for a short time.
Supernatural creatures generally have much higher basic life values!
Moreover, this basic life number can be enhanced with constitution. This means that as long as the constitution is above 10 points, every additional 2 points of constitution will grant an extra 1 point of health bonus.
Thus, supernatural creatures exhibit such vigorous vitality, clearly surviving many cuts!
Soren was the same.
The higher the health points, the more vibrant the life force. A normal person would start feeling dizzy after losing a little blood, but as long as he didn’t exceed the life-threatening threshold, his combat power wouldn’t drop too much. Life force is reflected not only in this aspect but also in many other areas, such as response to poison, resistance to lethal spells, and the impact of injury on one’s strength, etc.
“Stone Skin [Fourth-Ring Spell]: After casting the spell, the caster will be covered in a layer of Stone Skin energy, absorbing any physical damage with an intensity of less than 10 points. Each point of spell energy can improve the damage absorption effect by 1 point. Attacks below the protective energy absorption effect will not deal any damage to the caster, with a maximum absorption of 200 points of attack intensity. Adding Stone Skin will reduce the caster’s agility by 2 points.”
…
Stone Skin emphasizes the caster’s level and spell strength. A regular Stone Skin only protects against attacks below 10 points of intensity. If a normal person were to swing a knife at full force, it would take around twenty strikes to break through the protective energy; during this time, the caster would not suffer any damage. However, if a professional were to attack, any attack exceeding 10 points would deal damage based on the effect after being negated by the protective energy. A gut-slashing sword could merely graze muscle tissue.
10 points of spell energy can raise the protective attack intensity of Stone Skin to 20 points.
Thus, it becomes most troublesome when high-level wizards cast Stone Skin, as any physical attack below 40 points cannot break their Stone Skin protection.
Soren would need to execute five instances of [Sword Intent – Heavy Strike] to break through the protective energy of Stone Skin!
Among all protective spells, Mage Armor (AT field) is still the best, as it acts as an energy protective field. Unfortunately, Mage Armor has limited damage resistance and can be easily broken after just a couple of hits. Therefore, in high-intensity battles, wizards prefer to apply Stone Skin first because it can withstand more attacks and lasts quite a long time.
…
Soren solemnly put away the equipment.
This was the best legendary equipment he was able to acquire before the turmoil began. As long as he had it, he could even attempt dragon-slaying, although not against the dragon he encountered today. Rather, against more common varieties like wyverns, earth drakes, and bipedal dragons. If a white dragon were willing to fight him on the ground, Soren was around fifty percent confident he could take down an adult white dragon, as it is the lowest of the five-colored dragons, with the weakest spellcasting abilities among them.
They commonly appear in Soren’s destination, which is within the Frozen Kingdom.
Thinking of dragon-slaying, Soren seriously considered his chances of success in that endeavor. Among sorcerers, there is a powerful advanced profession known as the Dragon Pulse Sorcerer.
Dragon Pulse Sorcerers have only two ways to advance: the first is to awaken their dragon bloodline. This preserves the sorcerer’s spellcasting ability while continuously granting the properties of dragon blood. This advancement method has extremely high requirements, occurring mostly among half-dragons. It’s difficult to advance a dragon bloodline that has been too diluted.
The second method is dragon-slaying!
Sorcerers possess a unique bloodline talent with strong fusion and absorption capabilities. Even sorcerers without dragon blood can transfer dragon-like abilities to themselves through a special advancement ritual after slaying a dragon. After this ritual, the sorcerer can advance to become a Dragon Pulse Sorcerer, retaining all original spellcasting abilities without any diminishment, while gaining bonuses to dragon-like strength, constitution, intelligence, and charisma.
A Dragon Pulse Sorcerer of around profession level 10 can receive about 12 points of extra attribute bonuses. [24 profession levels]
In addition, their basic life number becomes the same as that of a warrior (10 points). Upon entering the legendary ranks, their vitality reaches the same level as that of a barbarian (12 points), making them BOSS-level characters who can both cast spells and engage in melee combat among sorcerers.
In those days, many sorcerers died on the path of advancing to become Dragon Pulse Sorcerers, but those who succeeded became extraordinarily powerful.
They liked to refer to themselves as [Dragonborn].
The growth potential of Dragon Pulse Sorcerers is undoubtedly immense, but the downside is that the killing experience required for the profession level is roughly three times that of other advanced professions. They are subject to experience penalties for growing into dragon kin. Dragons take hundreds of years to mature, and their strength increase is similarly restricted.
Among all spellcasters, Dragon Pulse Sorcerers are the only ones who do not need to reach high-level (profession level 15) or require any transformation rituals to possess a lifespan exceeding five hundred years [do not age].
Theoretically, a level 10 Dragon Pulse Sorcerer can live for 2000 years.
Soren thought that if possible, he would try to have Vivian advance to become a Dragon Pulse Sorcerer, and the sooner the better.
If she truly is the Child of God!
Advancing through this method, upon entering the legendary domain, it would be hard to say who would win or lose when facing a fallen deity!
