Demons are clever.
Long before the competition for the Lord of d*ath concluded, they had quickly retreated after a last plundering in the Underworld. Those demons that remained were actually just the ones who hadn’t gained enough benefits earlier and were still looking for chances; all of them were slaughtered by Soren’s d*ath Servants, nearly wiped out. The Underworld is a special area of the lower planes, roughly layered as the Material Plane—Shadow Plane—Spirit Realm—Underworld—Gray Wastes—Asura Field—Hell of Bartok and Bottomless Abyss.
Below the Bottomless Abyss lies the Sea of Chaos.
The main currents of the River of Underworld were quickly reclaimed by Soren’s d*ath Servants, but the River of Underworld crosses the Multiverse, and many places still require patrolling by the God of d*ath System.
That very afternoon,
Soren’s territory welcomed a group of special visitors, who were demons from the lower planes.
The God of d*ath System has maintained a relatively neutral stance.
Soren’s guests were a group of Ygoroth, a kind of demon race from the Hell of Scorching Flames, specifically classified into—Kano Ygoroth, Meiz Ygoroth, Malai Ygoroth, Nika Ygoroth, Yano Ygoroth, High Rosé, and Ao Ygoroth Commander.
The leader of this group of visitors was Nika Ygoroth Commander.
At this level, Ygoroth are essentially equivalent to demon lords, commanding vast territories under their authority.
The demons sent a messenger, bringing with them ample gifts, including various rare metals, high-level Soul Crystals, materials from the Astral Realm, and Annihilation Material from the edges of planes.
“The great Lord of d*ath!”
Nika Ygoroth Commander respectfully knelt before Soren to express his esteem, and then said, “I am Nika Ygoroth Commander-Kanolas, representing the other Ygoroth Lords to pay a visit to the great Lord of d*ath.”
“At the same time, we hope to continue to serve you.”
According to the oldest contract,
that dates back to when the Underworld was just beginning to grow, Ygoroth served as assistants to the God of d*ath System.
Their activities are limited to the lower planes, and these demons are also known as “Ferrymen of the Underworld.” They travel between the Bottomless Abyss, Hell of Bartok, Gray Wastes, Hell of Scorching Flames, etc., conducting trade via the River of Underworld, while also providing a paid service to help other beings cross the River of Underworld. As the most greedy and selfish beings of the outer planes, Ygoroth dominate the Hell of Scorching Flames. They usually serve as hired troops for demons, devils, or other powerful entities from different planes. Among them, the most special are the “Bridge Demons,” known in common terms as the “Ferrymen of the Underworld.”
This is a special Advanced Profession.
Often, a Ferryman of the Underworld who has served for a long time will eventually transform into a semi-undead state.
For the internal landscape of the Ygoroth, the Ferryman of the Underworld is a critical aspect of the plane, allowing them to easily travel back and forth in the lower planes while seeking ways to gain more benefits.
Soren has become the Lord of d*ath.
Then, accordingly, the new Ferrymen of the Underworld also need to gain His recognition.
On the throne above the palace, Soren looked down at the Ygoroth before him. Although they are demons, as long as they have value, they can be utilized. Ygoroth may only be ferrying across the river, but they also assist the d*ath Servants in maintaining the interests of the River of Underworld; they act like mercenaries, ready to heed the commands of d*ath when it’s beneficial for them.
Soren’s contemplation made the Ygoroth feel a slight unease.
But soon Soren’s voice resounded, slowly stating, “Everything will still proceed according to the ancient contract.”
“However, the waters you are allowed to operate in need to be redrawn, and some tributaries of the River of Underworld have already been seized by demons and devils. If you wish to maintain your current positions, you must prove your value.”
The number of d*ath Servants is still insufficient.
He still cannot manage the waterways outside the Underworld, but since these Ygoroth wish for profit, they must offer something in return.
Let them deal with those demons and devils first.
Hearing Soren’s words, the Commander of the Ygoroth visibly hesitated for a moment, but then nodded and said, “Okay! The army from the Hell of Scorching Flames will soon assist you in regaining control of these rivers.”
Although the Hell of Scorching Flames cannot compete with the Hell of Bartok,
it is a battle system of a lower plane, and the Ygoroth within it are the most numerous and powerful. The Ferrymen of the Underworld represent free travel and trade across the entire lower planes, and they are willing to pay some price for this.
“Very well.”
Soren nodded, then cast his gaze towards the Ygoroth behind, solemnly asking, “Are they the Ferrymen of the Underworld you have chosen?”
The Ygoroth Commander respectfully replied, “Yes, great Lord of d*ath.”
The Bridge Demons are special kinds of demons.
In a sense, their demonic forms have already been altered.
The waters of the River of Underworld are dangerous even for deities; direct contact can harm the soul, and only those of the God of d*ath System can easily alleviate it. However, even the d*ath Servants cannot come into too much contact—only Soren can swim a few rounds within the River.
Demons cannot resist the corruption of the River of Underworld either.
This corruption is aimed at life, but the most special type of demon among them, the Bridge Demon, can touch the River of Underworld. Although they cannot remain in contact for long, it is certainly much better than other beings.
All Ferrymen of the Underworld have numbers.
Bridge Demons will only be responsible for their respective regions and will not easily intrude into the territories of other peers. Thus, if certain domains cannot be reached directly, beings from the lower planes may need to deal with two Ferrymen of the Underworld.
Any one of the Bridge Demons is a servant of Soren.
They report directly to Soren, but according to the contract, the Lord of d*ath rarely mobilizes them, as their task is to operate on the River of Underworld.
“Let them come up.”
Soren waved his hand, and then many Ygoroth stood panic-stricken before the hall. Soren gazed down at these demons, and then a point of divine power brilliance emerged, transforming into countless specks of light that fell upon these demons.
Their life forms quickly changed.
The characteristics representing the Ygoroth gradually faded away, while a new d*ath Aura manifested upon them.
This granted them a touch of fear aura ability, while also allowing them to freely cast transformation spells, acquire control over corpses, and use accurate teleportation spells.
Rows of Ygoroth knelt before Soren; starting today, they would be the new Ferrymen of the Underworld.
The rivers that directly connect to the River of Underworld do not require Ygoroth; this area is managed by the d*ath Servants, and the activity range of the Ygoroth includes the Gray Wastes, Hell of Scorching Flames, Asura Field, Hell of Bartok, and Bottomless Abyss. Generally, Ygoroth rarely venture beyond these areas.
They have been vassals of the God of d*ath System since the growth of the River of Underworld.
