Chapter 150: The Queen’s Heir
December 25, 2014
Author: Floating Tower
The Frost Wyvern is a large creature.
The male weighs over three tons, and the other two are also around two tons, so Soren can only carry as much as possible, selecting a good spot to bring it back. A typical adventure should involve five or six people, which can roughly carry back valuable items. There are no infinite storage artifact rings in this world; the closest Soren has seen to artifact-level items are the thirty-foot storage gloves and storage rings. Among all professions, only Legendary Spellcasters can store items without restrictions, followed by powerful deities, as they can open dimensional spaces.
If you do not open a space yourself, the storage space of extraordinary equipment is very limited.
Soren, covered in bl**d, took a moment to rest and tidy up his clothes. He then raised his hand and snapped his fingers; the bl**d on him gradually disappeared, although a faint metallic smell lingered. Level 0 spells are very practical tricks that can often solve troublesome situations. In wilderness adventures, rogues are the dirtiest because scouting and exploration cannot consider elegance; when required to lie on the ground, they must do so, even in filthy muddy areas with animal waste. Warriors and rangers are also quite dirty at times, as they may need to play various roles; the only one with elegance in the party is the Spellcaster, clean and tidy.
Sometimes, dwarves can also be the dirtiest. Their short arms and legs may cause them to fall into pits, especially those overly confident dwarf warriors regarding their jumping abilities.
With a plop.
You might turn around and find surprises!
Soren had nearly finished processing the wyvern’s corpse; the smell of bl**d seemed to attract the attention of certain creatures, and he thought he vaguely heard some sounds carried by the wind. He glanced at the cliff before him. He then began to collect his most important loot—those dragon eggs placed in the dragon’s nest. The value of these items is hard to determine; they could be very valuable or just suitable for consumption. The difficulty of taming dragons is incredibly high.
Currently, only those near Dragon City have mastered the skills to tame Lesser Dragon Species; others simply cannot accomplish this.
Many creatures are wild and difficult to tame, especially those with innate genetic memories. The best executors of dragon abilities over the past century are the Drow of the Underdark. Their methods are straightforward; they only need a male pure-bl**d dragon, while others find it quite difficult to achieve.
The cliffs are very smooth, as the subspecies of dragons have high standards for their nests.
These cliffs have been sprayed with frost breath, freezing nearly three centimeters thick. Soren touched the surface, which was extremely smooth, and found it impossible to climb. However, he wasn’t entirely without options; he pulled a dagger from his body and stabbed it into the slippery cliff, using it to climb a little at a time. Soon, he reached a height close to three stories, pushing off from the cliff with his toes to jump into the dragon’s nest.
Inside the nest, there are three white dragon eggs, roughly the size of basketballs, half buried in ice.
Dragon eggs have special hatching requirements.
Soren also spotted a small pile of Gind in the dragon’s nest, likely from the Frost Wyverns attacking other creatures. Collecting wealth is in the nature of dragons; they hoard shiny items. Most of these are not worth much, and some are even damaged, but he could see some minerals, including several crystal ambers and a fist-sized natural gold nugget. Subspecies dragons sometimes attack goblins, and some of the loot gets dragged to their nests.
Soren discarded part of the dragon meat, turned his head, and put the gold nugget and gems inside. The stuff here is probably worth two or three thousand Gind.
Finally, he reached the three dragon eggs and knocked on them with his fingers to feel for any movement. Then he raised them to the sunlight; there were no signs of life inside. It seemed they had not been laid for long, and it would take a while before they could hatch; these eggs are edible. They are considered a top-tier delicacy and are not toxic.
Lesser dragon eggs cannot be preserved for long. They have specific temperature requirements.
Soren packed two eggs into his bag and began to return the way he came. He vaguely thought he heard the sounds of trolls; he wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but there were indeed many Ice Trolls in the Frozen Kingdom.
Those things are harder to deal with than wyverns!
When Soren returned, Princess Anna visibly breathed a sigh of relief. She raised her small hand and patted her chest, saying, “You’re finally back! I heard sounds over there and almost went to check!…”
Fortunately, you didn’t come over.
Soren raised his hand, highlighting the dragon eggs and raised an eyebrow, saying, “Please have a taste of this delicacy.”
He used the kn*fe handle to break open a dragon egg; the shell was quite sturdy. He then took out a spoon, stirred the contents, poured in a small bag of flour, and followed it with some fine salt. The dragon egg can be directly roasted over a fire, and when cooked, it is quite similar to a boiled egg, tasting delicious. In the past, he often ate it this way. Lesser dragons are widespread; high-level adventurers have mostly tried dragon eggs, and sometimes pure-bl**d ones are roasted and eaten too. [The survival rate of dragon eggs is only one in ten.]
Princess Anna’s expression seemed a bit worried as she pointed at Soren with her fair finger and said softly, “I think I heard something moving to the north.”
Movement?
Soren had gone southwest, and any sound from the north must be from other creatures.
His expression became slightly serious; he secured the dragon eggs and jumped onto a rock to take a look, but unfortunately, he couldn’t see anything. He then landed and slowly spoke, “It might be Ice Trolls; we’ll go around them. Let’s stay here for a couple of days on the mountainside, and then we’ll cross the mountain range towards the sea. The believers shouldn’t suspect that you can cross the mountains. We can take a detour to Arendelle from there.”
Princess Anna stood up and looked at the distant mountain range, murmuring, “Can we make it over? There’s no path there! Many places are impossible to get through.”
“Yes,” Soren fiddled with the dragon eggs and said in a deep voice, “So I need to learn a spell first.”
Princess Anna looked surprised, her eyes widened, “You are still a wizard?”
What a stupid question.
Soren didn’t answer that question. After roasting the dragon egg till it’s cooked, he broke it open, sliced it with his curved blade, and divided it properly. Adventurers are not particular; a kn*fe just used to cut through a person can also be used to slice meat. He handed the other half to Princess Anna, saying seriously, “Eat it all. This will temporarily enhance your cold resistance; the energy should sustain you for two or three days.”
Some food can boost status; such items are very rare, and the dragon egg in front of them qualifies as one of those.
Resistant enhancement alchemical potions are made from these materials.
The two quietly filled their stomachs; Princess Anna’s bruises seemed to diminish significantly after eating the dragon egg. She basically regained her ability to move, but when Soren prepared to set off, she shyly leaned against him and rested on his back. Soren didn’t pay much attention to this; he simply picked up the girl and moved towards the southeast, preparing to take the rugged mountain path. Since he agreed to send her back, he wouldn’t turn back halfway; Soren values promises.
Half a day’s time quickly passed.
They found an abandoned cave, seemingly the den of a Northern Bear, which smelled horrid.
Princess Anna was a bit dirty; mainly, she got dirty while cleaning up, and aside from her cute and clean face, she no longer had much of a princess’s noble feeling. The girl adapted quite well; she even knew how to stack and organize since they would be staying here for several days.
Soren set up two animal traps and a simple alert trap.
Perhaps due to neglected skills, he spent over half an hour finishing them; his style still leans towards a combat-oriented Wanderer, rarely spending a lot of time on traps.
Mainly, enemies during battle wouldn’t necessarily step directly into traps, and it requires ample time to set them up in advance.
As dusk approached.
Soren lit a candle and opened a spell scroll, occasionally using a quill to record some notes. He shaped a stone into a simple platform. Beside him was Princess Anna, who had tilted her head; she had used snow to wipe her clothes, her hair styled into twin braids, sitting quietly beside him. He wasn’t sure if it was the dragon egg that had caused it, but her complexion had taken on a slight blush; perhaps the energy from the dragon egg accelerated her bl**d flow, or it could be due to some other effect.
The girl seemed quite capable of adapting to mundane matters.
Her patience was definitely good, as she managed to watch Soren analyze spells for a full two or three hours.
A princess’s life is indeed quite dull.
Especially for someone like her, destined to manage the kingdom as a practical princess. While other princesses enjoy leisure, she spends most of her time reading. Books are the most crucial source of knowledge in this world; she needs to learn laws, literature, religion, etiquette, art, geography, etc. Sometimes, her learning tasks are even heavier than those of the Ice Witch.
The type of princess who grows up to marry into the royal family without a care does not need to learn these things, as their function is inherently different. But Princess Anna is one of the two jewels of Arendelle, and when she comes of age, she will at least need to manage half of the kingdom’s affairs, with the populace under her rule likely exceeding millions. She needs to assist the Long Princess in handling national affairs; as a future member of the ruling class, it would be unacceptable to only enjoy pleasures.
Though she is a princess, she effectively receives the education of a successor to the throne.
If all goes well.
The future ruler of Arendelle will be her child, as the immensely powerful Long Princess has almost no man worthy of her, and it’s even possible she may become a divine entity.
The Long Princess indeed has the qualifications for investiture; if she is vested, she becomes the next Queen of Arendelle.
The throne will be inherited through her bloodline.
Though she may lack experience and seem a bit childish and naive, she is still very young, just a fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl, so one cannot expect too much from her.
