Chapter 17: Legendary Naval Battle
The Ghost Ship gradually sank into the sea.
Soren activated the special emblem on his body, solidifying his ability to breathe underwater. The undrowned undead picked up their weapons and stood on the deck, while vengeful spirits began to emerge all around. The Requiem slowly approached from the seabed, and ahead, the Naga battleships had already started to join the fray. Many Naga warriors jumped into the water, immediately swimming towards the warships in front of them. There were quite a few ships in the battle group, and besides the Betrayer Merchant Association’s warships, it seemed that other pirate factions had also appeared.
—”Thunder Summoning!”
A dull rumbling of thunder seemed to echo across the sea, and then dark clouds gradually covered the sky, dimming the surroundings in the blink of an eye. Bolts of lightning danced like electric snakes, and even Soren, who was hiding on the seabed, could feel the violent lightning. This was not a simple spell but a thunder summoned by the Lord of Storms Priest. This was a near-level nine spell, covering an area of over ten kilometers and shrouding an entire maritime region.
“Is this the Lord of Storms? Or the Storm Priest?”
Soren felt the slight electrical currents at the seabed, somewhat akin to an electrostatic field, but the coverage was larger than he had ever encountered before, indicating the presence of a legendary level powerhouse. A torrential rain quickly fell from the sky, and a terrifying storm seemed to be brewing as the spellcaster forcibly altered the nearby climate, turning this place into the eye of the storm. Waves surged across the sea, and the swirling black dragon appeared somewhat unstable. Soren was somewhat better off at the seabed, but he could see the ships on the surface rocking violently.
Storm Lightning!
Crackling bolts of lightning fell one after another, and corpses charred black began to drop into the sea. Among them were Naga Guards struck dead by lightning, as well as the sharkmen riding on tiger sharks. Soren couldn’t help but feel relieved about the decision he had just made. If he had recklessly charged up, he might have been struck dead by lightning. The situation on the battlefield seemed odd; the battleship summoning the storm did not seem to be attacking the Betrayer Merchant Association at all.
It was as if they had reached some form of agreement. These beings, who looked like pirates yet resembled storm priests, were actually helping them fend off attacks from the black dragon and others.
“Did the Betrayer Merchant Association promise some benefits?!”
Soren’s expression was not good. He ordered the Ghost Ship to move closer to the seabed. In this struggle, he prioritized his own life; he didn’t want to d*e inexplicably in this place. Shadows seemed to dart across the surface. Those were Amazon Female Warriors wearing leather armor and wielding war spears; they were the backbone of the Amazons. He could see these women running directly across the water, empowered by certain storm spells, as they charged towards the enemies ahead.
“What fierce combat power!”
Soren closed his eyes, sensing his surroundings, mumbling, “At least more than thirty high-level professionists have appeared, and the number of legendaries has reached over five!”
“Let them fight for a bit first.”
Looking from the seabed at the battle above was quite awkward. Even Soren’s dark vision was of no use. Everything he saw was distorted. The black dragon in the sky seemed to have taken a severe blow, letting out an angry roar and unleashing a breath of fire. Adult dragons often had life points exceeding 500; many times they appeared heavily injured, but in reality, it was merely light wounds. The regeneration ability of dragons was not a trifling thing.
—”Dragon Wing Strike!”
Soren’s most feared move seemed to have been executed by the black dragon. The sea surface was suddenly engulfed by fierce winds and towering waves, and under the terrifying force, three warships were capsized, revealing their bottoms as they sank. Many figures fell into the sea as a result. This made Soren’s eyes light up; it seemed he thought of something and immediately ordered, “Undrowned, go up! Sink all those warships for me!”
d*mn it.
If you can’t beat them on the surface, then bring them all down into the water.
Soren did not believe that those professionists would be able to outdo him once they fell into the sea, especially since he had the underwater breathing emblem.
The undead began to move.
The Ghost Ship gradually rose a little, and there were many pirates and guards on the surface. Just moments ago, the black dragon had overturned several warships in its rage. Dozens of enemies had directly dropped into the sea. Soren already had a plan in mind; he immediately ordered the Requiem to rise while drawing out his curved blade, saying in a low voice, “Animate the ropes!”
Swish!
The ropes from the Requiem flew out. Don’t underestimate this ghost ship; it was also an activated life form of a near-legendary level.
The ropes on the ghost ship were long. Following Soren’s command, they shot out immediately, capable of extending tens or even hundreds of meters, looking like activated tentacles. At Soren’s command, the animated ropes quickly bound some of the enemies who had fallen into the sea and dragged them into the water. Soon, he saw five or six pirate sailors being pulled in, and even if someone tried to cut the ropes with swords, they couldn’t be severed due to their toughness.
“Is this counting as headhunting?”
Soren felt surprisingly good; he withdrew his curved blade and walked over. Once the animated ropes pulled the enemy close, he directly struck down those ensnared foes. Many of the pirates were of approximately third-tier strength, with a profession level around 10; however, in the water, they had no combat power due to the animated ropes binding them. It felt like he was collecting heads; he quickly dispatched more than ten enemies and gained nearly ten thousand points of killing experience.
More and more people fell into the sea.
It seemed that the Pirate King near the Soros Archipelago had also joined the battle. The surface had turned chaotic, with the rumbling of thunder, the black dragon’s roars, the crackling of electric spears, countless high-level spells being cast, and many elemental lives being summoned. What was happening above was becoming increasingly unclear to Soren, but his business underwater was going rather well. He easily eliminated a large number of pirate sailors who had fallen into the water.
With the support of a near-legendary ghost ship, he was quite relaxed at the seabed!
bl**d gradually spread.
With a faint vibration, Soren sensed a very significant force spreading throughout the water, since he was submerged.
Suddenly!
A golden light appeared before Soren.
No, no, no!
That was not golden light, but rather gold sand falling from the sky into the seawater! The intense battle on the surface made it impossible for others to completely protect the five merchant ships filled with gold and jewels. One of the ships was affected and exploded, sending scattered fragments flying everywhere. Among the flying debris, a heavy giant chest was flung open, and in the midst of the strong winds, over three hundred kilograms of gold sand was swept away, glimmering in the light of the flashing lightning, cascading down like a dazzling curtain of gold from the sky, all falling into the sea!
Pieces of gold sand dispersed in the water, shining brightly under the various strange lights and the gradually mingling bl**d.
“d*mn!”
“d*mn!”
“d*mn!”
A series of curses erupted.
The black dragon’s pupils turned significantly redder, and it roared again, unleashing another breath of fire. The recent battle had spilled more than half a ton of gold, and many small bits of gold sand and gold nuggets fell into the sea, swirling in the dark currents. In the blink of an eye, a lot of gold was swept away to unknown locations, with those sands sinking into the ocean. In the end, it would be hard for anyone to recover them.
Glub, glub!
One after another, more gold and jewels fell to the seabed within the sinking and splitting merchant ships, suddenly revealing a dazzling golden color.
That was a throne weighing over half a ton, completely made of gold.
This heavy throne was encrusted with all sorts of jewels, and just a glance could remind one of its astounding value!
It seemed there were individuals willing to risk their lives to grab it, but the immense weight dragged them down into the sea, and the heavy golden throne momentarily hazed Soren’s vision. However, he quickly regained his clarity and ordered the ghost ship to move elsewhere. Sure enough, a massive black shadow suddenly swooped down from above, and the black dragon abandoned its current enemies. It dived down from the sky, extending its dragon claws to grab the golden throne. The half-ton weight was bearable for the dragon, and it flapped its wings and flew back up.
“It’s mine!”
The black dragon let out a deep roar and growled, “Osaketh can forsake other treasures, but this item must be mine! Osaketh will not return empty-handed! Hand it over to me, and Osaketh will give up the rest of the treasures! …”
It seemed it had indeed been wounded.
Otherwise, the black dragon’s greed would not be satisfied with just this one treasure, and from its words, the others clearly slowed their attacks a bit. It seemed someone hoped that once it secured this treasure, it would leave.
After all, this was merely one ship!
In the midst of everyone’s struggle, there were still four such merchant ships, almost each packed with tons of gold and jewels!
The recently spilled gold sand had already made many envious. If things went on like this without restraint, who could predict how many treasures would sink into the sea? The larger treasures might still be followed to some extent, but the smaller ones swept away by the sea would be lost forever. Gold and silver adornments, gold and silver utensils, golden sculptures, jewels, an entire large tribe from noble chiefs to commoner merchants had been thoroughly plundered by the Betrayer Merchant Association. This astounding wealth had only just revealed the tip of the iceberg!
It seemed the black dragon really just intended to take this one item!
But reality cruelly dragged it into the sea as a massive tentacle suddenly reached out from the deep abyss, coiling around the black dragon’s body and directly pulling it into the ocean’s depths.
“All… all… mine…”
A strange and muffled voice echoed, mixed with bits of demonic phonetics. Very few in attendance could recognize this phonetic; even Soren merely felt the pronunciation was odd. The massive tentacle possessed an incomprehensible terrifying strength, and even an adult black dragon couldn’t break free from its grasp. Thus, it was dragged into the seawater, throne and all, and began to sink rapidly.
The battlefield fell into a dead silence!
It seemed that this power stunned many, even the legendary figures present ceased their attacks for a moment.
Tentacles lined with suckers suddenly emerged from the darkest depths of the sea, faintly revealing an incredibly huge shadow that had appeared near the battlefield.
It was an overwhelming pressure!
The powerful professionists capable of resisting dragon pressure felt profound terror under this oppressive force.
Soren seemed to recall something.
His face turned slightly pale as he forced out a bitter smile, mumbling, “What a crow’s mouth! Whatever I say comes true! This monster truly emerged! …”
“Ghost ship, turn around! Hurry, turn around! … Get out of here! Quickly leave this place! …”
A terrifying shadow loomed.
From the deepest part of the sea, it neared them, covering the battlefield with hundreds of tentacles.
