Chapter 41: Fate Coin
The cold sea breeze blew towards them.
It was now the coldest time of the year; the temperature would gradually warm up after February next year. Soren brought Vivian onto the pirate ship and, whether it was his illusion or not, he felt that today Vivian was quieter than yesterday. The little girl gently held his finger with her small hand, occasionally looking up at him with a sweet smile. This reminded Soren of the time in Amber City when Vivian liked to hold his finger like this.
A number of fierce-looking pirates had gathered on the pirate ship, their expressions revealing surprise at the sudden appearance of the little girl!
However, no one dared to ask anything further.
This gentleman before them had frightened them all; Throat Cutter’s reputation was spreading further and further throughout Shipwreck Bay. Perhaps because they had experienced much on this journey, the little girl remained calm while looking at the fierce pirates, occasionally curiously observing their tattoos. Pirates liked tattoos because sometimes they might not even be able to identify the bodies after d*ath, so tattoos became a mark of identification.
The warship soon left Taro Port, and Soren did not specify the destination, only instructing them to sail towards the deep sea.
This undoubtedly aroused confusion, but everyone obeyed his orders honestly!
“Brother!”
Vivian stood on the deck, gazing at the sea as the sea breeze blew her beautiful long hair. She smiled sweetly at Soren and asked, “Can I go fishing?”
Soren’s expression was calm. Hearing her, he smiled slightly and casually said, “Sure. But fishing in these waters could easily attract sharks!”
“Sure!”
The little girl’s eyes lit up as she clapped her hands and exclaimed, “I want to catch a great white shark!”
Soren was taken aback for a moment.
He then ordered others to bring iron hooks; ordinary methods wouldn’t do for sharks, they had to be attracted with something bloody. A fishing rod wouldn’t suffice; they needed different tools for fishing, which the pirate ship lacked. However, for Soren, catching a shark was still an easy task. He hung a piece of meat on the iron hook and then said softly, “Why did Vivian change into a white dress today?”
“Hm?”
The little girl eagerly watched Soren at work, then smiled sweetly. She twirled in place like a cute little princess and said, “Vivian has two favorite dresses, one white and one black. Do I look good, brother?”
“You look good.” Soren nodded with a smile.
The little girl blinked and smiled again, her expression seeming slightly different, before she returned to gazing at the sea.
The pirate ship continued its journey.
Upon passing a certain sea area, he ordered to furl the sails and stop for a moment. Then he looked at the sea floor and continued to sail towards the more dangerous deep sea region. The other pirates were visibly worried, seemingly afraid of encountering ocean monsters, but they did not dare to defy Soren’s orders. They only showed a concerned expression on their faces. There were many sea monsters along the deep sea route, as well as other ocean races, which was why the fleet had to pray for the blessing of the deities before sailing.
Otherwise, they could only use powerful sea monsters as sacrifices!
………………
Northern Tower.
A captivating woman arrived at one of the many towers standing in the Northern Region. This was a very old wizard tower, existing longer than the histories of many cities in the Northern Region. It was also the only wizard tower that had remained well-preserved since the era of the Arcane Empire. The entire wizard tower was shrouded in a special energy field, making it unapproachable for ordinary people, who even couldn’t see it with the n*ked eye. The enchanting woman knelt before the tower’s door and humbly lowered her head.
A faint sigh could be heard.
The tower’s large door slowly opened. A hint of surprise appeared on the woman’s face, and she quickly walked inside.
At the very top of the tower.
An elderly woman sat at the astrology platform. Her hair was completely white, and what stood out most were her pupils, which had almost turned completely white, with no distinction between the sclera and iris. She looked up at the enchanting woman who walked through the door and couldn’t help but sigh gently, slowly saying, “Corinna. You still haven’t given up?”
The enchanting woman humbly lowered her head and said, “Eye of the North!… I… I really can’t let it go!…”
The seemingly blind elderly witch shook her head lightly, sighing, “With your talent, if you weren’t obsessed with powers outside of yourself, you would have long entered the Legendary Domain. I exiled you to White Horse City hoping you would awaken soon and one day replace me. But I didn’t expect that after all these years, you still haven’t given up!”
“Your daughter is about to surpass you; yet you remain stagnant, which is incredibly disappointing!”
A trace of unwillingness appeared on the enchanting woman’s face as she muttered, “I really can’t let it go!… I can’t just give up like this!… You said before that as long as I can study this knowledge, I can master the power of the Arcane Empire!… I have already lost my daughter to research its mysteries!… I have sacrificed my most youthful and beautiful years!… I am about to lose everything!… How can I abandon it as well!…”
The Eye of the North sighed and said slowly, “Even if you research it, what can you achieve? The Arcane Empire was once so powerful! If those Grand Archmages hadn’t been obsessively fixated on power and knowledge!… How could it have led to the destruction of the mighty Arcane Empire?… They destroyed themselves, trying to touch the forbidden realms in madness!…”
“You have already lost your way in power.”
“I see only destruction and ruin in you. Even if you finally achieve results, it will only bring you destruction!”
The enchanting woman bit her lip, her face pale, and asked, “Is this the fate you see belonging to me, so you no longer support my research? And you exiled me to White Horse City?”
The Eye of the North said nothing, only showing a hint of pity in her eyes.
“Why?!”
Tears began to fall as the enchanting woman unexpectedly wept, a rare occurrence, and she rose angrily, her voice sharp as she asked, “Why? Since you have already foretold my fate, why are you only telling me this now?”
The Eye of the North remained silent, merely lowering her head in melancholy.
The enchanting woman shot her a cold glance and then turned to walk out of the wizard tower, saying in a cold voice, “You desire that power too, don’t you? You know I can’t possibly succeed, but you still hope to unravel this secret from me!”
“I will not give up.”
“If fate dictates my destruction, then let me embrace destruction.”
The enchanting woman began to recite a segment of forbidden language, and then her skin actually started to change, turning from pale to dark green, and eventually transforming into an unusual pallor. The Eye of the North showed a hint of shock, mumbling, “You actually… actually have…”
The enchanting woman coldly stared at her and said slowly, “Yes. Since I have been regarded as evil and destined to fall into the abyss after d*ath, what does it matter if I transform like this sooner?”
She turned to leave.
But at that moment, the Eye of the North suddenly spoke, telling a story, and said slowly, “It is said that before the birth of the Fate Twins, everyone’s fate was controlled by the Goddess of Luck. She would throw up the fate coin representing each life’s future luck at the moment of their birth; some would show heads, some tails. However, there was a very special kind of person, whose fate coin would stand upright when the Goddess of Luck threw it.”
“The fate of such a person would be beyond the control of even the deities. In terms of destiny, they are freer than the gods!”
“Fate is constantly changing.”
“The Eye of the North sees only a fraction of it; if you truly do not wish to give up, then go seek such a person. If you gain his assistance, your fate trajectory will also change.”
“As for whether it ends in success or failure.”
“No one knows!”
The enchanting woman’s gaze softened a bit. She slightly bowed in acknowledgment and then left.
