Chapter 77: Battle Bow +2! (Third Update)
Soren needed a ranged attack method.
In the past, he often participated in team activities, but now he mainly acted alone. The spell slots of a wizard were indeed too few; it wasn’t practical for a high-level wizard to rely on spell slots for ranged attacks. Soren used to prefer a crossbow, but now he found that a bow and arrow were more suited to his equipment. However, this gear had a limitation: using a battle bow required him to carry a quiver, and if close combat occurred, he would have to have the bow on his back.
In such situations, a flip could be fatal; one can imagine how awkward it would be to roll and dodge with a battle bow strapped to the back.
In some aspects, a bow and arrow were certainly less convenient than a crossbow!
However, Soren had no such concerns because he had an equipment he had never had before: the Battle Master Gloves. As long as he owned this equipment, he could switch weapons at any time, using a crossbow and a bow with equal ease. He could take the bow out and put it away anytime, and then draw his curved blade for close combat. In other words, this equipment resolved the issues Soren had faced with using a bow and arrow, and it perfectly addressed the problem of a bow affecting performance during close combat.
Soren had touched upon another combat direction, but he wasn’t in a hurry to change his fighting style.
The reason was simple.
Using a bow and arrow required considerable skill, as well as multiple specialties to support it. With his current high attributes but lacking any specialties, he might be able to deal with ordinary people, but hitting high-level professionals would be difficult. He needed to master the specialties of Precise Shooting, Moving Shooting, and Eagle Eye to effectively use a bow for combat.
“Interesting,” Soren said as he returned the elven battle bow to the drow warrior leader in front of him, nodding slightly. “Your opinion is quite good, and it is indeed useful to me.”
Andrei Darkblade slightly bowed but did not reach for the elven battle bow; instead, he lowered his head and said, “It is my honor, Your Excellency. I believe you are more suited to use this battle bow, and it will definitely unleash its maximum power in your hands!”
“Please do accept it!”
Soren smiled slightly upon hearing this, and without any hesitation, he nodded and accepted it.
A second-tier extraordinary battle bow.
Moreover, it was an elven battle bow. Although its value could not compare to legendary equipment, it was still quite rare. Currently, bows, short bows, and longbows were mostly +1 extraordinary items due to the lack of sufficiently special wood for crafting. Just like the crossbow, second-tier extraordinary ranged weapons were relatively scarce, while third-tier extraordinary ranged weapons were even rarer. Soren had only seen the highest-level bow crossbow, which was just a +3 piercing bow; he had heard of legendary bow crossbows appearing but had never truly encountered one.
The power increase of bows and crossbows mainly depended on the arrows and bolts.
“Item Type: Elven Battle Bow [ +2 ]
Item Level: [Second-tier Extraordinary Item]
Item Description: This is an elven battle bow with some history. It is made from wood sourced from ancient war trees and took a full three years to create. It boasts durability and resilience far beyond that of other battle bows. The surface of the bow is carved with strange patterns. This is a mark of enchantment; it remains unclear why the creator did not complete the enchanting process. There is a repaired sword mark near the bottom of the bow; its history is unknown, but it remains a powerful elven battle bow.
Equipment Requirement: 12 Strength or higher [Strength Requirement +2].
Weapon Effects: Hard Bow. Rapid Fire, +2 Penetration. +1 Armor Piercing.”
………………
It seemed that this elven battle bow indeed had some history.
Soren glanced at it briefly, his expression slightly surprised. If this elven battle bow had been fully completed, it should have had its own unique name. However, it looked like something prevented its completion. He touched the carvings on the bow, which indeed seemed like the marks left from enchantment, but since it was incomplete, it was merely a second-tier elven battle bow.
“This weapon is not bad; it actually has armor-piercing effects.”
Soren peered at it and thought, “The power of a bow mainly relies on the arrows to enhance it. Although there are no explosive arrows or ice arrows in the overseas islands, there are plenty of poisonous tools. As long as I eliminate that indigenous people’s tribe, I can directly poison the arrows afterwards; it should be no problem to mass-produce poisoned arrows.”
The blow darts used by the indigenous people could reach +3 extraordinary levels.
If their poisoning techniques were used to create arrows, it might well yield +3 poisoned arrows, which combined with the elven battle bow could be quite terrifying.
Definitely more useful than many spells!
By this time, daylight had fully arrived, and many people were already up. Just as Soren was about to say something, he saw a one-eyed cyclops pirate carefully walking towards him, respectfully saying, “Your Excellency, everything is prepared!”
“Mm.” Soren nodded in response.
He glanced at the drow warrior leader in front of him and said in a deep voice, “Launch the attack tonight and have your people ready!”
So soon?
Andrei Darkblade looked slightly hesitant but nodded, saying, “Yes. I will arrange it now.”
Soren smiled satisfactorily, waved his hand to summon a subordinate, and whispered a few instructions in his ear. He then said a few words to the cyclops, and immediately, the two men ran off in different directions. Soon, the camp began to operate; all the elite pirates of the various pirate leaders had gathered, but they were not entering the jungle; instead, they all headed to the harbor to board the warships outside. This island had a river flowing to the sea, which would lead to the inlet near the indigenous people’s tribe.
In the room.
When Soren walked in, Vivian was already dressed and waiting for him. Upon seeing him enter, the little girl sweetly smiled, but her expression seemed excited as she chirped, “Brother! Let’s go! Let’s take down all those annoying indigenous people!”
Today Vivian was wearing a black princess dress.
For some reason, recently, the little girl had taken a liking to wearing black and white princess dresses and rarely wore her other clothes.
Perhaps because she was gradually getting used to the changes in her attire, Soren felt no strangeness; he just nodded slightly and instructed, “Have you remembered everything I taught you? The first element for spellcasters is self-preservation; don’t be too impulsive! Our target is those souls; as long as we eliminate the souls, we can handle the other indigenous people at any time.”
The souls are the key to everything.
For both Soren and Vivian, killing souls could increase their divine power. As long as the souls were eliminated, the threat of the indigenous people would be reduced by half, and they could always return to deal with them later. Moreover, Soren had already accumulated 9 points of divinity; as long as he eliminated one more soul with divinity, he could reach 10 points and obtain the enhancement of [Weakened Divinity]. At that time, all of Soren’s attributes would increase by +1, equivalent to an additional 6 total attribute points.
This would greatly enhance his combat power!
Hearing Soren’s instructions, Vivian obediently nodded, then cheerfully asked, “Brother! When are we leaving!?”
“I’m a bit eager to show off!”
For some reason.
Soren felt the little girl was much more aggressive than before, but he preferred this change. With the Saint’s Cataclysm drawing closer, Soren felt increasing pressure, especially since the future enemies would likely be deities, and he might not always be able to protect Vivian’s safety. Therefore, equipping the little girl with more self-defense capabilities was undoubtedly a good idea. Combat also requires courage; if one does not even have the courage to face slaughter, then battle would become a joke.
Soren nodded lightly and said in a solemn tone, “We’ll set out shortly; we’ll go by sea!”
