Chapter 78: Clean Up the Outpost! (Fourth Update)
Under the pitch-black night sky, a warship with black sails entered the river inland from the seaport. Soren’s patience was quite remarkable; he waited until dusk before quietly approaching the territory of the Indigenous People’s Tribe. This time, he brought along only a small number of people. Even including the Drow Warriors, there were only a total of 121 individuals, and the majority of the pirate crew remained at the camp. To achieve the element of surprise, one needed to be few in number and possess powerful combat capabilities; only an elite force could catch the enemy off guard.
As night deepened, Soren and his subordinates disembarked about ten kilometers from the Indigenous People’s Tribe. This distance was just right; being too close would easily alert the enemy, while being too far would be inconvenient to traverse in the dark. Most of the pirates Soren brought along were quite unusual in appearance; many bore numerous scars on their faces and necks, while others had ears with multiple piercings or were covered in strange tattoos. Over seventy percent of these individuals had fierce and wicked visages, no doubt they were the surviving elite among pirates who had fought repeatedly.
The profession of a pirate truly is a survival of the fittest!
Generally, after three battles, those who managed to survive would not be too weak, and under such circumstances, pirates could quickly increase their strength given that they were, after all, professionists. All the pirates Soren brought along were at least of Second Tier, with about twenty percent being small leaders of around Third Tier. These pirates far outclassed ordinary ones in combat experience and equipment skills. Pirate equipment was mostly privately assigned, so Soren did not need to foot the bill for their gear; they would purchase equipment with their share of the bounty.
This batch of pirates was all equipped with finely forged military weapons, and some small leaders even carried First Tier extraordinary weapons.
Then, the Drow Warriors disembarked from the ship.
They looked much better than when they first arrived, as Soren had supplied them with equipment. He had prepared a large quantity of standard military weapons beforehand, enough to arm nearly three hundred individuals. This included some leather armor and iron-studded armor. Better armor was hard to come by, primarily because the cost of higher-tier armor was much greater; even Soren would feel pain parting with the price for a full set. Now, all the Drow Warriors were clad in new leather armor, and almost a third of their weapons had been replaced.
After all, having given them a +2 elven longbow, Soren felt he should reciprocate some benefits!
He was a fair person.
The overall strength of those he brought was quite high, and the Drow possessed remarkably powerful night vision capabilities. Fighting at night posed no problem at all. After all, the Underdark didn’t have much brightness, and most of the Drow were either albino elves or half-elves mixed with humans, possessing vision akin to infrared in the dark. The pirates accompanying them generally did not suffer from night blindness either, so their combat effectiveness would not be significantly reduced during a night raid.
“Stop!”
Soren glanced back at the others, then gave Vivian a look and said slowly, “Last time, we eliminated their scout. I’m afraid they will be prepared this time; I’ll go check for any outposts.”
After saying this, he nodded at the others and stepped into the darkness.
Soren’s figure was completely shrouded by the night. Once he entered stealth mode, he moved closer to the Indigenous People’s Tribe, leaving his companions nearly three kilometers away.
Eliminate the outpost!
This was the most common task for a Wanderer. Soren was quite adept at spotting outposts.
A glimmer of light appeared ahead, and Soren carefully approached along the edge of the path. He didn’t enter the tribe itself but cautiously circled around it. Soon, he sensed a slight movement coming from the grass to the southwest. It was tough for outpost watchers; the Indigenous People couldn’t remain completely still all night. Soren quietly crept over from the side and soon spotted a small, thin Indigenous person crouched among the grass.
The natives of the Overseas Islands were short and somewhat resembled the indigenous people from Indonesia, often mockingly referred to as “native monkeys” by pirates.
Soren silently approached without any expression.
As he got within about fifteen meters, he suddenly accelerated without making a sound. A faint, cold light shimmered, and Soren lunged forward, covering the person’s mouth and nose with one hand while stabbing a knife through their heart from behind. A spurt of blood gushed forth as the subdued Indigenous person convulsed briefly before becoming a lifeless corpse.
A line of cold data appeared:
“Combat finished!”
“You performed a backstab on the target! … Dealt 86 points of piercing damage! … You struck the vital point of their heart! … Triggered lethal damage judgment! … The target failed their constitution saving throw! … The target is dead! …”
“You gained 1750 points of killing experience! …”
…
Although Soren hadn’t scanned the Indigenous person’s strength, the killing experience obtained allowed him to roughly judge that their profession level was around Third Tier strength. Due to a lack of civilized knowledge and limited sorcerous bloodline, very few of the Indigenous People were spellcasters; most spellcasters were concentrated among Shamans. However, there were some who could wield psychic abilities, which typically wouldn’t appear in small tribes, suggesting a larger tribe with thousands of members was involved.
The proportion of those with psychic abilities was estimated to be much smaller than that of sorcerers!
Thud.
A soft sound, and Soren set the corpse down, covering the grass slightly.
Then, he entered stealth mode again, moving along the Indigenous People’s Tribe. Given that he had already discovered one outpost, there surely would not be just one; there had to be more Indigenous People nearby. Under the invisibility state, Soren was very careful. After circling around without any findings, he began to enlarge his search range. If he did not eliminate the outposts and they discovered him beforehand, the effectiveness of the night raid would be greatly reduced, and there could be significant losses.
His patience was good.
After circling three times, Soren finally discovered a second outpost, surprisingly hidden in a large tree to the south. Without his keen hearing, he might have missed it. Soren spent a whole hour eliminating three outposts outside the Indigenous People’s Tribe, and after ensuring there were no more outposts nearby, he returned to where he started.
It was now nearly one o’clock in the morning.
He had entered the river on the island only after it was completely dark, and after walking this way and clearing out the outposts, it was now about one o’clock.
This was the perfect time for a raid!
