Chapter 79: Surprise Attack and Massacre! (Fifth Update)
Soon, Soren returned to where it all began.
At this moment, the gap between the Drow Warriors and the Elite Pirates became apparent. Although their strengths were not vastly different, the disparity in discipline became evident after more than an hour of waiting. The Drow Warriors maintained their silent demeanor, occasionally wiping their weapons, while the Elite Pirates grew restless, with many unruly pirates becoming impatient. If it weren’t for Soren’s reputation and the suppression from the Pirate Leaders, they might have started to stir.
The level of discipline between the two groups was not at all comparable!
The former reminded Soren of his days in the Underdark, where he experienced the brutal rule within the Drow and the strict discipline enforced by the Drow army. However, the pirates were completely different; these elite pirates had become accustomed to being unruly and restless after only waiting for an hour. Soren noted this situation and resolved to train them well in the future.
“Move out.”
As Soren’s figure appeared, the pirates immediately found their backbone, and those restless elite pirates settled down.
After issuing the command to advance, everyone began to close in on the Indigenous People’s Tribe. Vivian cast Flight and Invisibility Spells on herself, flying to the front of the group. Soren couldn’t help but feel envious of how the little girl seemed to have grown in power; despite spending most of her time sleeping recently, her skill in flight spellcasting was remarkably smooth. In contrast, Soren had only managed to master a specialty in spell control and had not acquired any other spellcasting specialties.
The Drow Warriors remained quite silent, following the group without a word.
The pirates, on the other hand, occasionally made noise, with some quietly complaining about the rough terrain, which was immediately reprimanded by the leaders.
Andrei Darkblade shook his head, feeling no great expectations for today’s battle.
He had actually prepared to retreat if things went awry, considering the dwindling number of tribal warriors; this elite and precious Drow warrior force should not be wasted here.
Now, he just hoped they could successfully launch a surprise attack, and that Your Grace Throat Cutter could take down the Shaman!
They were getting closer.
As a glimmer of light appeared ahead, Vivian gradually lowered her altitude. The pirates were a bit better off, having previously witnessed her flight spell, but the Drow Warriors were somewhat startled. The little girl, who seemed so tiny in appearance, actually possessed unfathomable power; she had already cast several spells in quick succession.
—”Haste!”
The first spell was Haste, a group enhancement spell. It could speed up people within a certain range, and Vivian could enhance about twenty people at once, so she cast it three times to include some of them.
—”Dragon’s Might!”
This was the spell cast on Soren, which greatly increased his combat power.
The little girl didn’t expend too many spell slots on enhancements. After completing several simple spells, she quickly began to prepare her protective spells, then nodded to Soren below. Their mission was to eliminate the Shaman; they absolutely could not give the spellcaster a chance to cast spells.
Creak!
Soren easily opened the wooden barrier of the Indigenous People’s Tribe, and teams of people quietly infiltrated it. The sentry on the watchtower was taken out by Vivian’s Dispel, and another one was directly ensnared by Soren’s Charming Berserk. Thanks to the Haste spell, the Drow Warriors entered quickly, during which some outer low-class Indigenous People were startled awake. Before they could even speak, their throats were cut.
No mercy, no sympathy.
In the blink of an eye, over ten corpses had accumulated.
“Ignore the others!”
Soren glanced around at his subordinates and instructed in a low voice, “Andrei! You lead the assault on the chief in the center of the tribe. I’ll take out the Shaman and then join you!”
The Manifestation wouldn’t appear any time soon, so Soren needed to eliminate the Shaman first.
His figure slipped into the shadows, heading toward the courtyard he had initially identified, while Vivian flew in midair, having cast Greater Invisibility on herself. The two of them quickly approached the location of the Shaman. Meanwhile, Andrei Darkblade had already led the Drow Warriors in a surprise attack, charging directly toward the center of the tribe. On the way, they inadvertently startled some Indigenous People, but regardless of gender or age, anyone who entered their line of sight was slaughtered.
The Drow showed no mercy to these Indigenous People, and the pirates had no sympathy whatsoever!
A path lined with corpses and bl**d.
Those who attempted to resist were mercilessly killed, and soon nearly a hundred corpses had accumulated. The Drow had reached the center of the tribe, and their movements had awakened some of the Indigenous warriors. However, many of them didn’t have time to pick up their weapons before they were slain by the charging Drow. It was now around two in the morning; under normal circumstances, most people would be in deep sleep, and even if they heard the commotion, they wouldn’t react quickly enough to respond.
“k*ll! k*ll them all!… ”
The bl**d and screams finally stirred the entire Indigenous People’s Tribe, but it was already too late.
In just the first round of confrontation, the Drow Warriors, possessing dark vision, completely held the upper hand. Although they numbered only about thirty, the number of heads they claimed during the fight was nearly twice that of the more than one hundred pirates. Truly, they were a race capable of survival in the Underdark; they showed no mercy during the slaughter.
“Follow me!”
Andrei Darkblade sensed a possibility of victory and said in a deep voice, “Rangers come with me! sh**t those guards!… Charge the big house ahead and take out the Indigenous chief!… ”
The elite pirates had begun to engage with the progressively reacting enemies. The raucous pirates roared as they fought; while their momentum was astounding, it also began to attract more and more Indigenous People. Their own casualties began to rise, with seven or eight pirates killed and over ten others injured to varying degrees, more than half of whom fainted. However, the Drow Warriors suffered very few casualties; only three were injured, and no one had died, as they possessed night vision abilities that made them more suited to the current battle environment than the Indigenous People.
bl**d flowed.
The Indigenous warriors were not grouped together; although they lived in the central part of the tribe, they resided in separate houses where their wives and children were.
Some half-grown children were also fighting, even managing to k*ll one or two pirates.
Andrei Darkblade’s expression was cold as he drew several throwing knives from his waist and threw them at an Indigenous child who looked to be only twelve or thirteen years old. The kn*fe struck the child in the chest, causing him to drop to the ground, and soon after, an Indigenous man’s furious roar turned into a scream.
The Drow showed no change in expression, and the pirates still wore fierce looks on their faces.
………………
On the other side.
Soren and Vivian had approached the courtyard of the Shaman, and just as they reached the vicinity of the courtyard, the little girl furrowed her brows and whispered, “Brother! There’s a strange aura here! I don’t like it!…”
Soren had just opened his mouth to say something when suddenly the house before them shook, and then a giant creature appeared—an enormous brown bear, approximately five meters tall. Although it looked like a brown bear, it lacked any trace of life. Upon appearing, it let out a silent low growl and charged at Soren, raising its massive paw to strike.
Clang! Clang!
Soren certainly wouldn’t be hit so easily; he rolled away to dodge the attack and then swung his twin daggers at the giant brown bear. To his surprise, the Icebane in his right hand broke through its defenses, but his curved blade in his left hand seemed to strike some incredibly tough energy field, deflecting away with almost no damage.
Soren’s expression turned serious as he said in a grave voice, “Bear Spirit Manifestation?!”
