Chapter 95: Soul Confinement

The curved blade once again pierced through the enemy’s body.
Although the Earthbound Spirit’s body was not made of flesh and blood, striking it felt like cutting through jelly, with hardly any sense of impact. However, the shadow energy condensed by Shadow Assassination still affected it, while the additional element of the Legendary Curved Blade, Icebane, gave it a touch of chilling silver. If only Soren’s weapon were more advanced, a weapon enchanted with high-level elements could have easily taken half its life with a single strike.
—“Raise the Undead!”
—“Mirror Image!”
After being hit several times by Soren and withstanding two Shadow Assassinations, the Earthbound Spirit finally felt the threat of death. It was seen that a strange spell light appeared in its eyes, and then its figure transformed into five, becoming five nearly identical figures that appeared in place. This was not the wizard’s projection spell, as projection spells create identical actions only to confuse lower-level enemies. The Earthbound Spirit had turned into five illusions, each performing completely different movements, making them nearly indistinguishable at first glance.
Creak, creak!
A series of skeletal movements echoed throughout the house.
In a small compartment that Soren did not enter to check, a series of strange noises erupted, followed by the appearance of numerous skeletons, varying in size and bizarrely diverse, with hardly any identical bones among them. Once they awoke, their pupils shone with the light of the Undead’s soul, and they charged out toward Soren and the others before them.
“Brother, get back!”
Vivian’s voice rang out from behind Soren. Upon hearing the little girl’s voice, Soren immediately leaped back without hesitation, using a foot to lift a table as a shield. He sensed a surge of heat coming from behind him, and just as he raised the table, Vivian also cast a Fireball Spell.
Boom!
A tremendous explosion echoed.
The entire house trembled, seemingly on the verge of collapse; one must not underestimate the Fireball Spell—after all, it was also a Third Tier spell, and a High-level Wizard casting it would equate its destructive power to that of an artillery shell!
In its heyday, the Five Fireball Sect used it to break through city gates, causing significant destruction.
The heat wave from the explosion spread.
A depression appeared on the ground, and flames ignited other items in the room. Some things that were still relatively intact caught fire. But this was merely the beginning; after casting her first Fireball Spell, Vivian showed no signs of slowing down, immediately throwing out a second Fireball Spell, and then a third.
By the time the little girl concluded her barrage of Fireball Spells, the scene before them had nearly turned to ruins.
The Undead summoned by the Earthbound Spirit had all been wiped out, and only two illusions it created remained, almost on the verge of dissipating.
“Finish it!”
A glimmer of light appeared in Soren’s eyes. He was ready to seize the opportunity to eliminate the enemy and collect Killing Experience.
However, at that moment, Vivian raised her hand to stop him.
“Brother!”
The little girl called out urgently, “Don’t kill it! I’ll confine its soul; it seems to retain some level of intelligence, and perhaps it can provide us with some information about the Wizard Tower!”
Soren sheathed his blade in an instant, nearly brushing against the Earthbound Spirit as he retreated.
Confining the soul?!
That was a high-difficulty task!
Although this world had many supernatural forces and numerous powerful deities, the realm of souls remained an incredibly mysterious and unknown field. Any spells related to souls were of Fifth Tier or higher, and any soul confinement spells were Seventh Tier or above. Certain special soul confinement spells even required a Legendary Wizard to cast. Given Soren’s previous weakened state, which needed a Fifth-level restoration spell to recover, one could imagine the strength required to interact with the realm of souls.
Vivian was indeed strong enough.
She should now be a Legendary Sorcerer working part-time as a low-tier Wizard, unquestionably powerful.
However, when did the little girl comprehend soul-related spells?
In Soren’s memory, it seemed Vivian had been sleeping a lot lately. Occasionally she would glance at books or practice her spellcasting abilities, but she hadn’t learned many spell scrolls. How did she suddenly master even soul-related spells?
—“Undead Immobilization!”
Vivian’s actions appeared very careful. Facing the frenzied Earthbound Spirit, she once again used ‘Undead Immobilization’. This time, the enemy did not succeed in the saving throw and froze rigidly in place.
Clap! Clap!
The little girl clapped her small, pale hands, looking much more relaxed as she chirped, “Brother! It’s okay now! It can’t move for the time being; we need to quickly find something it used when it was alive.”
Something it used?
Soren frowned at this and proceeded toward the direction where he found the skeletons, searching around before lifting up a skeleton and tossing a bottle that looked somewhat like an iron kettle to the little girl.
He studied the surroundings carefully and mused, “Is this okay? Found it next to its corpse!”
Half-elves are known for their love of alcohol.
Just think of Aladdin’s drinking ability to know that they actually enjoy drinking.
Vivian caught it, looked at it, and then a spell light appeared on her fingertips. She joyfully exclaimed, “Yes! This is something it used when it was alive!”
—“Soul Shackles!”
Vivian began casting hastily. This time, the spell incantation was quite long, taking nearly half a minute to complete, intermingled with many words in the language of demons that Soren couldn’t comprehend at all. However, he could still see the effect of the spell. The bottle was enveloped in a soul mark, and then Vivian pointed with her hand, a power infused with a demonic aura began to act, transforming the Earthbound Spirit into a soul form and subsequently drawing it into the bottle before them.
“Done!”
Vivian clapped her small hands again and said cheerfully, “Unfortunately, I still can’t use the Soul Confinement Spell; otherwise, I could have just used a gem to trap it.”
“Brother!”
“We can interrogate it now.”
The little girl lifted the bottle, then gently snapped her fingers. Immediately, a semi-transparent soul phantom appeared in the room; it was a half-elf with a long beard, looking dazed and seemingly lacking much intelligence. After being summoned by Vivian, it began to stand there dazed, and after a while, suddenly exclaimed, “Master!…”
“I was wrong! Master!… Don’t punish me!… Please!… Don’t punish me!… What happened?… Where did the master go?…”
“Run!… Everyone run!…”
