Chapter 112: Dragon Slaying Preparation

A series of screams erupted.
Although a significant number of the native wildlings in front of him had been taken down, Soren’s pirates had also suffered considerable losses. These natives, armed with crude weapons, had coated their weapons with toxins to enhance their lethality, making any injury from these poisoned weapons quite troublesome. Fortunately, the pirates were elite troops with decent physical constitution; otherwise, many would have succumbed immediately to the first round of d*ath saves against the poison. Seeing three to five of his men fall, Soren’s murderous intent grew stronger. He wielded his curved blades, activating the last ‘Haste’ of an extraordinary item with both hands, then transformed into a blur as he dashed into the midst of the native wildlings. With the effect of Haste, dealing with these wildlings became much easier. Soren’s dual blades danced wildly, creating a storm of blades, and in just a few minutes, he had slaughtered over ten native wildlings, bl**d flying and heads rolling.
“Goo-roo-ga-la-heh-heh!…”
An eerie cry sounded as the wildlings, realizing they were no match for Soren, began to flee.
The initial swarm of wildlings that had charged in lost over twenty, with the remaining ten or so deftly escaping back into the woods. These wildlings had great climbing abilities, and once they entered the forest, only the rustling of leaves and bushes could be seen. Soon after, they vanished without a trace. Soren did not order his pirates to chase after them; instead, he examined the injured and instructed, “Take the wounded back to the ship, and the rest follow me around this way.”
The natives were widely dispersed.
On the islands within the ocean, the presence of natives was frequent.
Soren searched the bodies of the wildlings in front of him and found some strange markings. He also discovered a carved wooden idol on what seemed to be a chief wildling. This idol resembled a totem, but it was not a beast or spirit that Soren was familiar with; rather, it looked like a giant dragon coiled upwards.
Indeed.
The idol looked more and more like a dragon.
Upon seeing this, Soren immediately became serious and somewhat excited, stating, “Be cautious. There should be a giant dragon here.”
Native wildlings can be easily enslaved.
Of course, not by humans, but by some incredibly powerful and fearsome creatures, like a dragon that has made its lair here. If the dragon wished, it could intimidate them a few times, and they’d likely become its servants. Dragons actually possess a strong subjugation ability; they can enslave most monsters as servants, including lesser dragon types and weaker kin. So, never think that slaying a dragon only involves facing a single dragon.
In the past, many believed they could slay a dragon just by having read a few strategies.
They naively considered the giant dragon to be the kind of creature that would battle them on the ground. Yet when they truly encountered a dragon, they were all dumbfounded. Warriors couldn’t fly up to attack, wizards couldn’t deal enough spell damage, and archers found it hard to pierce dragon scales. When a dragon swooped down to give them an opportunity to attack, it often meant a deadly ambush. A hawk’s dive can shatter leather armor; how much more devastating is a dragon’s dive?
Soren remembered something early on.
As a melee professionist, he had to do everything he could to prevent the dragon from taking to the skies.
Because at that time, it would hold the initiative.
And it could escape at any moment.
This world has its own rules; even a legendary Sword Saint with such terrifying lethality on the ground might slay a pureblood dragon in just one or two rotations of combat time. However, he still wouldn’t have the capability to fly, unlike those who could utilize energy to do so. Most melee professionists are at a disadvantage in the air. Unless they elevate their strength to the realm of saints.
“Bring the things over!”
Soren leapt onto a cliff to survey the surroundings and then focused on the snow-covered northern part of the island. He then jumped down and instructed his subordinate beside him, “Bring me everything I prepared initially.”
“Understood.” Soon, a subordinate rushed back to the ship.
About ten minutes later.
One could see someone carrying a bundle of harpoons running over; these harpoons looked a bit like fishing spears, with some attached to chains at the back.
Among them were also heavy iron harpoons.
They appeared to be short spears forged entirely of steel, meant solely as throwing weapons.
“Each person takes two.”
Soren looked at the pirates behind him and instructed in a deep voice, “The rest is for me. When the opportunity arises, you all attack its dragon wings.”
Dragons are incredibly powerful.
Even a white dragon is quite dangerous!
Its dragon scales and skin possess strong protective abilities; even if you break through the scales, you’d still face a layer of tough skin. Therefore, historically, it seems the key to dragon-slaying lies in finding a weapon capable of breaking through the dragon’s defenses. But in reality, only those who have truly slain dragons understand that the most important point in dealing with them is to eliminate their ability to fly.
There’s a saying: “To sh**t a person, sh**t the horse first; to capture a thief, capture the king first.”
The dragon wings are the only large area on the dragon’s body that lacks scaled armor, and also the weakest defensive area.
Although this area is not fatal for the dragon!
The strategic significance of attacking it is still immense, equating to crippling half of the dragon’s mobility, preventing it from executing Dragon Wing Strike, diving attacks, Dragon Wing Sweeps, and other assault methods. In the stories of bards, the protagonists can foolishly target a dragon’s fatal weakness, and after some back-and-forth struggle, seize the opportunity to slay a dragon that still has half health left.
But if you play like that, you will definitely d*e a miserable d*ath!
Dealing with dragons requires heavy weaponry.
These heavy harpoons that Soren brought are crucial tools.
