Chapter Twenty-Nine: Rampage
Undead do not feel fatigue.
Accompanied by bursts of cannon fire, the undrowned undead on The Requiem moved quickly, unleashing firepower with impressive speed. Soon, three enemy warships sank under the bombardment, and the flailing animated ropes swept out like venomous snakes, ensnaring every nearby foe. Soren stood on the deck, holding an elven warbow, not rushing to k*ll the enemies, but instead shooting arrows to precisely eliminate the targets ensnared by the animated ropes.
Boom!
The ghost ship The Requiem trembled slightly.
The enemies finally reacted after a round of fierce cannon fire, turning their cannons to retaliate against the ghost ship. Even though the ghost ship, as an animated construct life of the undead, could automatically evade, it was still hit by concentrated cannon fire. A hole was opened in the already battered ship’s hull, which appeared to be decayed but was surprisingly sturdy, just a small opening had formed. However, what followed overturned all the pirates’ perceptions; a series of wailing souls flew out from the ghost sails, and then the ship’s hull, pierced by cannonballs, started to heal little by little.
It was as if the flesh and bl**d of a human were regenerating; the damaged parts of The Requiem were restoring to their original state!
This was the terrifying aspect of the ghost ship.
It would never be easily sunk like other warships. However, as a cost of repairing the hull, the number of bound spirits on The Requiem also slightly decreased.
These bound spirits were part of the ghost ship!
The regeneration ability of the ghost ship relied on these souls, as it was itself an animated undead construct life.
The number of bound spirits on The Requiem was still plentiful.
In other words, unless the firepower was fierce enough to tear The Requiem apart, Soren wasn’t afraid of being sunk by them.
However, the role of the bound spirits was very important; whether this ghost ship could continue to enhance its strength depended on the accumulation of bound spirits. Therefore, he did not plan to expend too many of them.
“Full speed ahead!”
Seeing that the warship from Arendelle was almost free from trouble, Soren immediately ordered, “Prepare the Wailing Ram to sink! Ram that ship in front!”
The Requiem began to accelerate.
The sharp ram charged towards the pirate ship ahead, instantly creating a massive hole.
The Wailing Ram was the piece of equipment Soren used the least; if the distance wasn’t close enough, he preferred to use the alchemical construct’s undead cannon.
“Retreat! Turn the ship around!”
With Soren’s command, The Requiem didn’t need anyone to steer. It turned the ghostly sails around and quickly created some distance.
Soren glanced at the Arendelle navy ahead and said solemnly, “Deep sea submersion!”
Rumbling.
The seawater surged from all directions, and The Requiem gradually sank into the sea, becoming increasingly indistinct under the cover of fog, leaving only a ship full of astonished sailors and the wreckage of a ship floating on the water. The corpses of the enemies were completely devoured by mutated tiger sharks. The entire battle lasted less than five minutes, as The Requiem’s concentrated firepower severely damaged this group of Víkings. As The Requiem gradually submerged, the mutated tiger sharks began to descend as well, and soon the surface of the sea returned to calm.
“What!?”
On the Arendelle warship, the bearded general’s expression was one of shock. After a long while, he murmured, “Ghost ship!… Ghost ship!… Black sail?!… The Requiem?… Executioner Soren?!…”
“Is that the Pirate King who rampaged along the Southern Coast? Why is he here? Why is he helping us fight the enemies?”
He was filled with confusion, but there was surely no answer at the moment.
………………
“What!?”
Prince Hans’s face changed dramatically, angrily saying, “Gone? What about those Víkings? Are they all dead?!”
The battlefield situation changed rapidly.
Just a moment ago, the pirates felt like they were playing a game of cat and mouse, but after losing contact with several warships in succession, they suddenly felt the role had reversed.
They felt as if a shadow loomed over them in the fog, waiting for a chance to hunt them down.
Cannon fire.
Screams.
Roars of battle.
They heard many sounds in the fog but could not see the state of the battlefield; when they approached the sounds, all that greeted them was spreading bloodstains and gradually sinking shipwrecks.
They had lost at least ten warships.
Yet they had not even seen a trace of the enemy. Only some vaguely saw large black shadows moving in the water.
Fear began to spread.
The unknown enemy was the most terrifying!
Prince Hans was so angry he couldn’t restrain himself, but he had no solution, because until now, he had not found any trace of the enemy; that damned fog had concealed everything.
Even the Arendelle warships had disappeared.
“Look!”
A high-ranking sorcerer standing nearby suddenly spoke, “Your Highness! There is a living person over there!”
A wooden barrel floated ahead.
On top of it was a pirate sailor covered in bl**d, clinging to it. Soren, after all, was not a god and couldn’t ensure that no fish escaped in such a battle.
“Quickly!”
Prince Hans perked up at the words, shouting, “Get him! Quickly get him!”
The sailors on the deck sprang into action.
Soon someone rescued the pirate; his breath was already weak, his chest pierced by a plank, and he was basically not going to survive much longer.
“What happened?”
Prince Hans grabbed him and shook him vigorously, “Quick, tell me! What happened up ahead?”
The pirate sailor gradually regained consciousness, struggled to open his eyes, and then fear appeared on his face as he trembled and shouted, “Undead!… Black sail!… Ghost ship!… Monster!… Dead!…”
“All dead!… All of them dead!…”
His somewhat incoherent words startled everyone nearby, sending a chill down their spines.
It was as if a cold gaze was watching them from the fog.
“Undead?”
Prince Hans spoke with a dry mouth, “Ghost ship? Black sail? How could that be! Which ghost ship is here?!”
How could that be!
When did a ghost ship appear near Arendelle?
As someone who lived in a coastal nation, he certainly knew the terrifying legends about ghost ships; such things were scarier than deep-sea monsters.
Until now, few had actually seen one!
“Your Highness!”
A naval officer, a man in his fifties, swallowed hard at the words and said in a low voice, “Legend has it that when a ghost ship appears, there will be an inextinguishable fog! I’m afraid there really are undead here!…”
“Then?”
“Shall we retreat?”
He was scared.
Not only him, even the other sailors on the deck felt a surge of fear after hearing the news about the ghost ship.
It’s important to know that people who died on a ghost ship could be eternally trapped aboard!
