Pah!
The Eastern Dance Maiden was drenched in sweat, propping herself up with a shovel while wiping her forehead with her arm, revealing a patch of delicate white skin amidst the dust. Digging up in the sandy environment led to her being covered in yellow dust and sand. Now, this once beautiful woman looked like a beggar, spitting out a mouthful of saliva mixed with sand. The structure of this underground ruin was not very good; even a small dig would cause quicksand to surge downwards, and just moments ago, she nearly got buried.
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh!”
The Eastern Dance Maiden panted heavily. Turning her head to glance at Soren, who was sitting nearby, she couldn’t help but voice her grievances, “Hey! Aren’t you done resting yet? How long am I expected to dig alone?!”
Initially, Soren had tossed her a shovel, and she thought they would dig together, but unexpectedly, she was the only one working. After working hard for a long time, she had only managed to clear a little bit, and she had no idea how long she would be stuck like this. As for Soren, he had been sitting there resting from the very start, nearly five or six hours had passed by now. Every time she got exhausted or was doused in sand from head to toe, she would look back at Soren, who remained meditative and composed, adding a touch of bitterness to her gaze each time.
“Really, not a shred of gentlemanly demeanor!”
The Eastern Dance Maiden muttered to herself as she tossed her long hair back, which was now filled with dust—a discomfort for someone who was quite particular about cleanliness. After a hard dig and sweated profusely, she felt like she had rolled in the mud. Despite her complaints, she ultimately went back to digging with all her might because she could tell that Soren was injured quite badly.
In truth.
Soren was seriously injured, having been knocked into a near-death state by the Balroth Fire Demon’s self-immolation.
At the moment, he was still able to move about freely due to his powerful extraordinary physique!
Right now, Soren seemed to be resting. However, he was in fact memorizing spells again. The Eastern Dance Maiden didn’t yet know that he also had a side job as a wizard, so she naturally thought Soren was merely recovering. Besides, other wizards needed their spellbooks to memorize spells, while Soren, using only his memory, was a rare type of wizard she had likely never encountered before. Even though he had spent a significant amount of Killing Experience, the spells Soren currently controlled were all imprinted from memory. He did not need a spellbook, and he rarely carried one with him.
Huff.
Soren slowly opened his eyes.
He glanced at the Eastern Dance Maiden, who was working hard, and a playful smile emerged on his lips.
The Eastern Dance Maiden had completely lost her initial enchanting allure, now resembling a mud-streaked country woman, and that sight was indeed quite delightful to him.
Before his eyes was a lot of information prompts, the first being:
“Received attack from Balroth Fire Demon’s [Self-immolation]!”
“Reflex triggered! … You successfully evaded the core explosion area! … You took 52 points of explosion damage! … You took 12 points of fire burning damage! …”
“Trigger critical point! Specialty breakthrough!”
“Your specialty ability [Weak Fire Resistance] has been upgraded to [Moderate Fire Resistance]! …”
“Trigger critical point! Specialty breakthrough!”
“Your specialty ability [Moderate Fire Resistance] has been upgraded to [Strong Fire Resistance]! …”
………
The Balroth Fire Demon was a mass of flame.
Throughout the battle, Soren had been enduring fire burn damage. If it weren’t for the power of Icebane to extinguish the magical flames on him, he probably wouldn’t have been able to last this long. Therefore, it was surprising that the primary focus of his training, fire resistance, had suddenly shot up from [Weak Fire Resistance] to [Moderate Fire Resistance].
“Moderate Fire Resistance [Personal Specialty]: The power of divinity enhances your resistance to fire damage. From now on, you are immune to any fire damage less than 5 points. When attacked by spells or spell-like effects, any fire damage will be reduced by 10 points. As your divine power strengthens, the effects of your fire resistance abilities will gradually increase, and eventually, you may reach immunity to fire damage.”
Resistance is a very useful specialty ability.
Once elevated to high resistance, it significantly increases survival capabilities. However, to achieve immunity to a certain type of attack, a more powerful specialty will likely be required, which belongs to the realm of deities.
Currently, Soren possessed two types of resistance: [Weak Cold Resistance] and [Moderate Fire Resistance].
Then.
More data appeared:
“Killed Balroth Fire Demon!”
“Extracted target soul energy! … You gained 165,100 Killing Experience! …”
“Target possesses divine abilities.”
“Divine power activated! … Absorbing residual divinity! … Divine transformation! …”
“You gained 5 points of Divinity Value.”
………
Over 160,000 Killing Experience.
Although it wasn’t enough for Soren to ascend to Legend, it was close enough, and he still needed to obtain another elemental crystal shard, which should suffice for ascending to the Legendary Domain. As for the 5 points of Divinity Value gained, that truly surprised Soren. He hadn’t expected that killing a Greater Demon would yield so much Divinity Value. Unfortunately, such opportunities were hard to come by, and even if he encountered them again, he might not necessarily win, given that the challenge difficulty between Greater Demons and Demigods was not that far apart.
But it wasn’t surprising.
Abyss Demons have always spread their divine bloodlines, and many powerful demons, despite not possessing godhood or divine professions, still can wield a portion of divine power.
This was the divine bloodline they inherently possessed.
Offspring of the Abyss Demon God!
This time, killing the Balroth Fire Demon was somewhat lucky for Soren; he was well aware that if the demon hadn’t been sealed here, his chances of winning in a direct confrontation would be almost nonexistent. If he wanted to deal with such an enemy in the future, he would probably have to wait for the Saint’s Cataclysm to arrive, as that would be when the Balroth Fire Demon would be part of the first batch of demonic vanguard forces. Once the Saint’s Cataclysm began, the Abyssal Blood War would come to a temporary halt, with demonic and fiendish forces shifting their focus to other planes.
Clap!
Soren slowly stood up.
He took out a shovel and silently started digging again, as the most important thing now was to leave this place.
About three hours later.
Another piece of information appeared before him:
“Fire Demon War [Legendary Battle]: In early April of the Year 1676 of the New Crescent Era, you encountered a sealed Balroth Fire Demon within the ancient ruins of the Arcane Empire. After a grueling battle, you finally defeated this powerful foe. The fall of a Greater Demon has begun to draw attention from the Abyss towards your existence. The Balroth Fire Demon you killed is an offspring of the ancient Fire Demons, and your presence will be sensed by some powerful demons. [Legend Degree +2]”
It was a bit strange.
The Legend Degree Soren received was only 2 points. Logically, the Balroth Fire Demon should be the strongest monster he had challenged so far.
Yet it only awarded him 2 points of Legend Degree!
Moreover, the appearance of this Legend Degree was surprisingly fast, unlike in the past where there was a long pause before it showed up.
This made Soren fall into deep thought.
“Why is that?”
Soren pondered rapidly in his mind, silently reasoning, “Clearly this Balroth Fire Demon is so powerful! Why does it only give 2 points of Legend Degree? Even the Legend Degree from a naval battle is higher than this! Could it be that the Legend Degree is not directly related to the enemy’s strength? Or are there other conditions determining the amount of Legend Degree?”
Soren slightly furrowed his brows as he seemed to realize something.
The Legend Degree isn’t necessarily determined by how strong the enemy is; of course, defeating a powerful foe will yield more Legend Degree than defeating a weak one, but it seemed like there was also some standard that decides the amount of Legend Degree.
Audience!
Much of the Legend Degree Soren acquired in the past was due to the widespread dissemination of the events.
Many battles might not have been as perilous as today, yet he still earned a high Legend Degree because those stories spread far and wide. However, it appeared that Soren didn’t have any audience today, and he certainly wouldn’t casually boast in the tavern about how he defeated the Balroth Fire Demon. Among everyone, perhaps only the Eastern Dance Maiden vaguely guessed that Soren had defeated the Balroth Fire Demon, which might explain why the Legend Degree was so low.
