Chapter Ninety-Nine: The Messenger of the Agricultural Goddess
Vivian fainted again.
Although she didn’t understand the reason, Gloria was not too worried this time.
Because Vivian’s breathing was very stable, and there were no abnormalities in her condition. To some extent, she even felt that Vivian’s power was increasing. This time, the fluctuation of divine power was more intense, much stronger than the last time she remembered. She didn’t know what had happened for Vivian’s strength to be automatically enhanced time and again. However, it must be related to Soren; Gloria had a vague suspicion in her heart, but she couldn’t be completely sure.
“Don’t disturb her!”
Gloria raised her hand to cast a warning spell, then turned around and left the room with the small cat girl Lulu, saying, “You stay here during this time, and don’t let anyone disturb Vivian’s rest. After a while, she will wake up on her own.”
Lulu raised her little head, looking somewhat perplexed, but she quickly nodded and said, “Meow!… Lulu understands!… I will stay here and not let others disturb Vivian’s rest!…”
Hearing this, a smile appeared at the corner of Gloria’s mouth. She gently patted the cat girl’s little head and said softly, “That’s good, good child!”
Tap tap tap.
A hurried sound of footsteps came from outside, followed by a young woman dressed as a maid entering.
“What is it?” Gloria frowned again.
The young maid came to Gloria’s ear and quickly whispered a few words, then respectfully stepped aside.
“Eh?”
After listening, a look of confusion appeared on Gloria’s face as she murmured, “The priest of the Agricultural Goddess? Why have they come here?”
“Never mind.”
“I’ll go personally to welcome them.”
………………
Overseas Islands, Modo Harbor.
A somewhat different warship docked at this increasingly prosperous harbor. The warship bore a special emblem of rice ears, representing its affiliation with the Church of the Agricultural Goddess, a neutral faction deity’s believer. The ship had protecting knights from the Church. Coming to such a dangerous place as the Overseas Islands, it was absolutely necessary to have guards. At the forefront was an elegant-looking middle-aged priest dressed plainly but appearing to be in a position of comfort.
“Is this the place?”
The middle-aged priest gazed at the bustling harbor in front of him, his expression slightly surprised as he said, “I didn’t expect there to be such a prosperous place in the Overseas Islands!”
Soon.
Gloria’s figure appeared amid a group of guards. The middle-aged priest from the warship walked down with a smile.
This group attracted quite a bit of attention.
At some point, the priest of the Goddess of Wealth, Jin, had also appeared near the harbor, frowning as he stared at the distant church emblem, murmuring, “What business could the priest of the Agricultural Goddess have here? This place doesn’t seem related to her domain of faith, does it?”
Many others had also noticed their arrival, but the vast majority were merely watching.
The Agricultural Goddess was indeed powerful; although she was a deity who had risen in the last thousand years, the connections behind her were enough to make many church organizations feel apprehensive.
“Welcome to your arrival, Your Grace!”
Gloria glanced at the emblem of the middle-aged priest opposite her and was surprised to find that he was actually a figure of archbishop level. Such a person was also of great importance within the church, likely nearing the legendary domain. The port dock was not a place for discussions; as the mistress of Modo City, Gloria naturally needed to welcome and arrange for them. Soon, this group was settled in Modo City, with various eyes keenly probing the intentions of the Church of the Agricultural Goddess.
In the conference hall.
After changing to a relatively quiet environment, the middle-aged priest immediately got straight to the point, “Your Grace Gloria! I have come here hoping to cooperate with you on a matter. I wonder if Lord Soren is available to meet with me now?”
Cooperate?
Gloria lightly tucked her fallen long hair behind her ear, still not quite understanding what cooperation could exist between Modo City and the Church of the Agricultural Goddess. However, she still smiled politely, saying, “I’m not sure what kind of cooperation you are referring to? Lord Soren is currently not in Modo City, but I can handle all matters here.”
As the mistress of Modo City, Gloria naturally had a high degree of authority. With Soren absent, she was the de facto decision-maker.
“Well then.”
The middle-aged priest nodded at her words and waved to one of his attendants. Immediately, a young man approached with a box. The priest took the box and placed it in front of Gloria, gently opening it, “The church is very interested in this item! So we hope to cooperate with Lord Soren; I believe our sincerity will certainly satisfy you!”
So it was this kind of thing!
Gloria only glanced at it and immediately understood what was inside.
A type of granulated crystal that emitted a pungent odor.
One of the tasks that Soren had previously entrusted to her seemed to be a fertilizer used to help crops grow; production had already begun months ago. However, how could she have paid too much attention to such a minor matter? She just didn’t expect that what seemed inconsequential in her view would actually attract the archbishop of the Agricultural Church enough for him to personally come seeking cooperation.
At that moment, Gloria really felt a bit unable to see through her man.
She didn’t know whether Soren had anticipated this long ago or if it was purely coincidental.
“Ah, so it’s this.”
A hint of a smile appeared at the corner of Gloria’s mouth, her attitude casual and almost testing as she said, “It seems this thing hasn’t been publicized yet; I wonder how Your Grace the Archbishop found out about it?”
Displaying an air of secrecy about the item.
All of Gloria’s expressions told this group that this item was not some trivial trinket but rather a secret of Modo City.
Since it was a secret, it was certainly important.
Important things naturally commanded a hefty price, and merely a hint could imply much.
“Hehe.”
The middle-aged priest smiled faintly, speaking slowly, “Anything related to agriculture cannot escape the Goddess’s gaze. Please, believe that we have come with absolute sincerity. Mutual benefit is always a form of assistance for us.”
“Isn’t it?”
Gloria glanced back at him lightly, saying, “That is indeed the case. But I wonder what kind of cooperation Your Grace the Archbishop is referring to?”
Finally, to the point.
The middle-aged priest revealed a hint of a smile and said in a hushed tone, “After our tests, this item can meet the needs of crop growth, transforming barren land into fertile ground, and significantly improving crop yields. The Agricultural Goddess is a kind and loving deity, so the church plans to promote this item so that all believers can experience the joy of harvest.”
“We plan to purchase this fertilizer in bulk and then promote it to more believers.”
The alchemical process for making fertilizer isn’t very advanced.
Any high-level wizard could tell in an instant. The key point is the bird droppings stone, which is a natural mineral found near Modo City.
Soren originally decided to research this precisely because bird droppings stone is the best natural fertilizer, which can be used directly with simple processing. This land has existed for quite a long time as undeveloped territory, and the indigenous people are certainly not aware that the accumulated bird droppings are actually a treasure. Hence, currently, the entire mineral is in the early stages of development; the reserves on this island have not even been developed to a millionth.
The Agricultural Church had evidently also realized this.
This low-end alchemical extraction technique has no value at all; the real value lies in the bird droppings stone mineral on the island where Modo City is located.
The value of crops is not high.
Correspondingly, the value of fertilizers also shouldn’t be too high. While high-level alchemy could produce quality fertilizers, the costs and expenses involved are often exorbitant, far exceeding the profit from crop yields. Thus, what Soren discovered, using bird droppings stone as a base for extracting fertilizer, is highly valuable because its cost is quite low. It merely requires the initial processing of mining development. This relatively inexpensive cost can allow for widespread distribution and promote it as an alchemical fertilizer in many places.
The plentiful harvest of crops and the increase in grain production.
This is extremely significant for the Agricultural Church, especially since their base of believers consists of farmers. If successfully operated, the church’s influence would multiply!
This is also why an archbishop would personally come to the Overseas Islands.
